The Substitute Sneak Peek – Episode 6.04

OK, so the previous episode, “What Kate Does” was certainly lame in my opinion and most everyone elses. Lets put it behind us and trust Damon and Carlton know what they’re doing. Here’s the first clip of next week’s episode entitled The Substitute.

Locke’s back at the box company..for a little while anyway.

Also, Damon doesn’t like it when you bad mouth Lost.

wow… I laughed out loud at Damon… absolutely hilarious, and 100% true. Even Jack’s tattoo episode in season 3 was better TV than most of what is on these days…

  2. Totallylost

Thanks for posting Scott. And for the website!!!!

    I am ready already!!!!

  3. richard7769

Thanks Scott! I’m ready for this one. Looks 100 times better than last weeks.

  4. Scoppie

Am I missing something? What Kate Does wasn’t THAT bad, it certainly didn’t approach the dreadfulness of Some Like It Hoth or early Season 3.

I quite liked Dr Ethan’s cameo, the way it mirrored his mission on the island, especially his “I don’t want to stick needles in you” line, and it’s obviously a hint of what’s ahead with other Others, plus Faraday, Miles etc, who escaped the island for whatever reason.

It’s also good to finally find out what happened to Claire after the cabin scene, even if she has gone native and “evil”. And the Sawyer moments were pure gold, from his ring-chucking to his description of Sayid as “an Iraqi torturor who shoots kids”. I get the feeling he’ll be going the way of Sayid, Claire and Locke before long…

Granted, next week’s episode looks great in comparison (what Locke-centric ep isn’t?), but keep things in perspective.

Here’s another sneak peak I was able to find. It definitely looks like a winner. We all know of course Sawyer probably won’t find out the answer but it does look good.

One thought i had is maybe they (Jacob & MIB) need someone to set them free, so to speak. Sort of help them to die or let go so they can go home. Like they’re imprisoned to continually walk the earth until they find that one person who is pure to themselves to release them.

Could that be the challenge to each one to see who abandons themselves to do what is right?

Just some early morning thoughts since I’m trapped in snow hell.

  6. jonathan

Richard, i am sorry to tell you that here is 41 degrees celsius!!!! I dont know how much is it in farenheit, but its so hot!! My ankles are sweating.

About the infection, we’ve been hearing about it forever, and now again.

Those who are infected are dead?

I mean, the infection is sort of a posession of a dead body by some other dead person spirit?

    Like Rosseau’s husband, Claire, Sayid?

If Sayid was Jacob, why would those others kill him?
They seemed to be in Jacob’s side.
Why would they be in big trouble if he died, like the note from Jacob said? Did they know something evil could happen with his body?

Is Sayid the Man in Black? I dont think so either. There wasnt a double of Sayid, like there was one of Locke.

I have to say that Kate is by far the most boring character of lost.I dont give a damn what happens to her.

  7. Anne Richardson

    Hello,

I am also trapped in snow hell. I was wondering if the time is the same for both realities. The plane group is actually three years earlier. When the bomb blew up, everyone obviously bounced back to the present. So are they in the present present, meaning three years ahead of the other reality?

I also thought that maybe the island reality is also different than it was before the bomb.

    Anne

  8. richard7769

jonathan – please enjoy the sunshine for me. The infection is a good mystery maybe it’s between the life and death. We’ve never seen Claire die and Sayid wasn’t dead until he was submerged in the water and then Miles couldn’t get a reading off him. It could be the one’s who haven’t chosen the black or the white….

Anne Richardson- there is an assumption that they are however, Sun was in 2007 when the plane crashed and the others went to 1977. If they are all on the same time then I assume it’s 2007. We saw when in the temple the rocket went off Sun and Ilana saw it but we haven’t seen the two groups together.

I hope Jin finds Sun soon. Of course I’ll be jealous but what can I do.

  9. Ross

Anyone ever see the Star Trek TNG episode “Cause and Effect”? its the one where the ship and crew are stuck in a time loop for 17 days and each day ends with them colliding into a ship that’s also been stuck in the loop for 80 years.
It has a TON of stuff in common with Lost. time loop… a special number that data uses to set them free, each day in the loop people hear ‘whispers’ etc.

  10. adam

I don’t think sayid is jacob or MIB…maybe he is whidmore he is def not jacob or MIB…or Desmond (sorry jason it just doesnt make sense).

Locke episodes are great. In the US they replay the previous weeks episode before they play thew new episode. But they replay them with these subtitle type things that explain the scene and give hints as to what things are or mean. I think it is helpful to understanding the previous weeks episode. So in the US from 8pm – 9pm they play old one and then the new episode at 9Pm. Do they do that for everyone else?

  11. adam

    Richard –

I just checked out the other sneak peak. Unless he finds out this episode why he is on this island then that sneak peak is a **** tease. I’m so interested yet so frustrated! Damn you Lost!

  12. richard7769

adam- It’s been a tease since the second episode, we want to know why, what how……. God it’s been an awesome ride… most of the time. Except for this weeks episode….. and one or two more…..

  13. kbrulz

I read this site all the time. The shit you guys come up with, is really great. I have theories of my own that I just keep to myself and I just wanted to say that I think you all have a lot of balls to put everything you think out there for all of us to read. Keep it all coming!

  14. Totallylost

Richard7769- re post 5. That is a great thought about both MIB and Jacob needing others to free them or help them. When I think of these all powerful deity types I see them as being in control independent of everything. So, the fact that these guys are using others reveals that they are not all that (even if they think so).

I always assumed that the purpose of Jacob and MIB was to preserve the island from outsiders. But, given that MIB said he wanted to go home it has me thinking. Maybe each of them have to complete a mission before they are released, and the island or how it is used is just a small part of that mission.

Maybe they did some bad stuff to people in the past and part of their redemption is to help or fix others. I mean each of the losites desperately needs some fixing, and especially the 06. In fact, each of them are a mess– they each have huge daddy issues, some are murders (sayid, kate and sawyer), they have relationship issues, they have been used and abused, and the list goes on. Disaster.

So as this mystery unfolds I will be looking more at why the losties are involved in this whole scenario, how Jacob or MIB can affect that, and what they need for redemption. We shall see.

  15. Totallylost

About that sneek peek Richard7769. I am again going with Adam. Sawyer will go with Fake Locke, and instead of getting an answer as to why he is there, there will probably be 10 more bloody questions.

    Sigh . . . . I am frustrated too.

I will point out though, that Locke does not look scary in that clip. Instead there is a certain comforting zen-like aura about him.

  16. jason

Come now y’all….. that’s southern for you all…. :) … MIB is about to play “con” the “con”…. He already “manipulated” the “manipulater”…Ben to get what he needed. Now he has moved on to Sawyer.

I for see Sawyer getting played….Ben later tag teaming with Sawyer to get MIB. My fun theory for the day.

Adam…MIB…WIDMORE…!!!! Hmmmm and that makes sense..??? Well thinking about it in a way it does! Coupled with Des being Jacob since Neither really got along in the first place. Eitherway…remains to be seen. I’m still sticking with Des being affiliated with Jacob in some way.

  17. jason

    kbrulz….. share….please….share!!!!

  18. jason

I watched NCSI….atleast it put me to sleep….after last weeks episode gave me a headache!!!!

  19. jason

Ross…I HAVE SEEN THAT!!!! DAMN I FORGOT ABOUT THAT! THANK YOU!!!

  20. adam

Whatever happens will happen. Kate ended up with Aaron on the island and in the alternate reality she again will end up with Aaron. He is commenting on the multiple levels of reality that go on simultaneously-Kate had to adopt Claires child-even on the other level

  21. Totallylost

Thanks for the laugh Jason: con the con, and manipulated the manipulator. Too funny

I am guessing that you are assuming that MIB is bad. I am no so sure. Jacob may be the real scammer.

  22. C.P.L.

Am i missing something? Sayid is def not jacob or MIB!!! He is INFECTED!!!! I thought thats clear! Also Desmond isn´t jacob, come on guys!!!! The state of play is that Locke = MIB, Jacob = dead for now, but he will return somehow, for sure!!

Adam…i believe the same as you. In the alternate reality everyhting (at least most or a few things) will come together again as it was before the incurrence of a new reality. i.e. Kate and claire´s unborn aaron…

  23. C.P.L.

When jacob died the water in the temple became dark. I am assuming that now the water is not resurrecting/healing people anymore, no it´s infecting people because MIB is now in charge after jacob´s dead. I also think that the water healed people which belonged to jacob, now it changed and it´s infecting people which are belonging to MIB. Maybe all the infected people belong to MIB which is the smokemonster and they are the evilness of the island. So that could be the war everyone was speaking last season from, especially Widmore!

    …just a thought guys..

  24. Scoppie

And a very interesting thought at that C.P.L…

The temple pool becoming dark is definitely integral to what’s going on here, seeing as they mentioned it so prominently in the “Previously, on Lost” bit at the start of the ep.

Smokey/MiB/Locke/Esau/Whateverthefuck is trying to go “home” and the Others are suddenly barricading the gates, so it’s clear he’ll be attempting to bust in at some point. My guess is he’ll be using Sawyer for this – the con getting conned… whether he “infects” him like he did with Claire (when he took the form of Christian) or just tricks him into doing what he wants like he did with Ben remains to be seen.

Here’s my wishlist for future episodes:

Richard Alpert flashback episode. For the love of God.
Hurley attemptly conned by Sawyer flash-side episode.
Jack fixes Locke and the two become best buddies flashside episode.
Charlie and Mr Eko meet in jail and form a funk band flashside episode.
Libby and Anna Lucia meet, fall in love and murder Michael for being annoying then adopt Walt flash-side episode.
Ben Linus is the President Of The USA flashside episode.

That was fun! Let’s have your ideas…?

  25. adam

sayid is not jacob or desmond or any of that.

  26. adam

    Jason –

I’m not saying Whidmore is Sayid makes sense I just don’t see why Desmond is Sayid makes sense either.

  27. kbrulz

    This one’s for you Jason-

This is kinda what I’m thinking for how this all ends on the island. Locke goes back in time when he turns the wheel. Whidmore is there and tells him there’s a war coming. I read somewhere, (don’t remember if it was here, or somewhere else) someone saying that Locke is recruiting people to join his side. I think the war will be between the “Infected” (Claire, Locke, Sayid, Sawyer(?), the dude from the Ajira flight that Ben shot, and who the hell else knwos) versus “Non-Infected” (Jack, Kate, Jin, Hurley, and the others). Damon & Carlton have said Vincent is the only character that will 100% not die. I think they have this big war and everyone…everyone is dead on the island, except Vincent. And the last shot we see is that damn dog sitting on the beach by himself.

Jacob said, “it only ends once, everything else is just progress”. Maybe the progress is them building their armies to do this war, and this is the End Game. Jacob and MIB have fought before, but neither side won, but with the loopholes and what not, it’s a whole new way of fighting the war. As far as how the off island reality ends, I have no clue. Does this make any sense to anyone but me?

    - Now, how the hell does Walt fit into this? You can’t waste 1 1/2 seasons on this kid and have it just go away can you?

  28. Ross

    Kbrulz…

NO, they cannot waste those seasons about Walt. it’d be a serious crime to Lost fans. I love how when the writers are asked “is walt coming back??” they answer: “well, he’s getting taller and older, it’d be great to figure out a way to get him back on the show”.
Thats a total crock. Him being tall and older didnt stop him from being in seasons 4 and 5 here and ther. They know 100% whether or not he will be back, they just arent saying.
    He will be back…

  29. Totallylost

CPL- How are you??? That is an interesting theory about the water. However, when I think back to Claire and Danielle, there was no indication that they were ever exposed to the water, or even in the temple, so I am not sure if that is what is infecting the folks. In any event is seems like the water only just turned from being clear.

I heard what Dogan said about Claire to Jack, but that guy is shifty, and they may be the bad guys for all we know.

Kbrulz (what the hell does that mean??). Anyway, thanks for the laugh of a visual of Vincent sitting on the beach alone. And, I agree that we are not done with Walt.

Karen, Moohaha, Biglostfan, Lolo and Wolowitz-WHERE ARE YOU??????

  30. kbrulz

    Totallylost-

kbrulz is my email address. My name is Keith Brown, and the rulz part is supposed to mean, rules. so it’s kb “rules”. I’ve had the email since high school and I just use it so I don’t have to remember a bunch of different ones.

    Ross-

I have seen all the same things with the producers in regards to Walt. It was just a looming question in my head, because they have given us some insite on certain topics with this show. But, with Walt, they just clam up. Which makes me think they don’t even want to touch the subject because when he comes back, it’ll be huge. Maybe he will be sitting on the beach with Vincent…

  31. Ross

Here’s what makes no sense about Walt….

We saw him dripping wet appearing to shannon and saw him tell Locke that he has work to do, and the show makes us assume he’s a ‘vision’ or “claimed” as Dogan would put it….

But he didnt die on the Island… he went home safe and sound with his dad, right??

Everyone else that has popped up on the island in a weird way like that has been dead and assumed to be ‘claimed’(Christian, Boone, Locke, Alex, etc)… except Walt. hmmmmmmmmm….

  32. kbrulz

Is it possible that Dogan has been on the island for a long time as well? Could he be Pierre Chang’s father?

  33. jason

Walt was special before he ever got to the island.

  34. jason

    kdrulz…

    very interesting theory!!!

  35. jason

    Totallylost….

I think neither MIB or Jacob are good or bad… I feel they are consumed with each to the extent of all else. No one, nothing matters except their agenda. The seasons have actually shown the extreme selfish that Jacob possesses over people. Over the seasons MIB (Smokie) has shown judgement and manipulation.

This is one reason I feel the island is under water because neither wins or neither loses…

However….how that factors into my Desmond theory remains to be seen.

  36. Karen

I usually like Locke episodes, think this one might be a bit more interesting that episode 3. we’ll see next week !

  37. acer_7

    Hey !!
I have always shared a little but I am a frequent follower for all the chats here.
About season 6, I think it is very poor -till now- compared to the previous seasons.
However, regarding the infection, the japanese guy told Jack that it happened to Claire as well. So, and here is the point, that means that Claire died when the house exploded ?

  38. adam

    acer-7

im pretty sure that is what he meant. either that or she lived or she caught the “infection” somehow which i think is why she ended up with christian. he is obviously dead so you prob need to have died or be dying to get the infection….just a guess tho

  39. jason

Adam… good point… because with Daniella… her crew caught the infection but yet the baby dady was shot in the head. So if he was already dead, how would he die again? So I feel the dead or on the way to die assessment is good.

  40. Karen

    hey Jason

I dont think we’re talking about the same kind of infection that killed Danielle’s crew. I mean those guys were sick. Claire seems all healthy, i guess the infection the chinese meant was something in the soul, like the black smoke. Also, let’s not forget that Claire was manipulated by the others, who knows what treatment/experiments they did with her.

My guess is the so called infection is just an evilness inside that allows you to see the dead or so. In my view, Hurley’s got it too

  41. Totallylost

I agree with Karen that there are two kinds of sickness. I also think back to when Desmond was taking shots to prevent sickness. And although I cannot remember at this moment what Kelvin said it was for, I don’t think it was to protect him from evil spirits infecting him. I think it was to protect him from whatever thing on the island that made Danielle’s crew sick.

WE NEED ANSWERS DAMMIT-NOT MORE QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  42. richard7769

I think after this weeks episode I would feel should start us on a path to answers. Let’s face it if the writers just gave it to us we would be even more upset than a few more questions.

Then we wouldn’t have this great forum(thank you Scott) and each other.

  43. C.P.L.

Tomorrow airs the new episode. Locke centrics were mostly good, very informative!! Honestly i expected this season will have only good episodes, but i was already disappointed. I bet we´ll be seen Ben again, he´s always playing in Locke centrics too!! I also hope to see something about Desmond again. It´s been a long time he had his last centric!

  44. C.P.L.

T-lost, Karen….I don´t believe there are two kinds of sickness. It´s just A sickness as Dogan mentioned, which becomes stronger and stronger till it infects your heart, then you are over, an undead or something similar. That would be a way to much to have also different diseases on this complicated island.

  45. richard7769

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuCEOpC_ALE&feature=related

for all my Lost family here is something VERY INTERESTING.

  46. Brooks

He said you have to figure out what # to divide it by first? Have you tried to figure this out Richard?

  47. richard7769

No I’m gonna try it tonight when I get home….. if I get home…… I really hate snow right now.

  48. adam

could it just be a gag that the writers r pulling?? that seemed kind of staged. there are only a handful of words that can be spelled with a calculator. 1 of them is asshole….which is what we may feel like at the end of this!

  49. Karen

the guardian (or one of the guardians) of the temple is the guy (Aldo) that guarded the place where Karl was being held and being brainwashed (Lost season 3, episode Not in Portland). so why is this guy now a Temple other ?? are then the temple others and the other Others all the same ??

  50. Karen

hey richard, that’s cool thanks. again the writers give answers but raise questions, again! what the F*** can we divide this number with to obtain the final word of the season (which im sure will be LOST, duhh). im not amusing myself discovering that…

  51. jason

ADAM!!!! LOLOLOL I REMEBER DOING THAT!!!! LOL IN LIKE 3RD GRADE, THINKING IT WAS THE FUNNIEST COOLEST THING EVER! DID IT ON ONE OF THE FAT TEXAS INSTRUMENT CALCS.

  52. jason

Here is a link to a list of calculator words….

I am going with “LOSS”… or “hELL”.

I like yours better Adam… you still have me laughing over your last post.

  53. Red..neck...man

This Season seems really forced to me. Like “We have a timeline people” Ive always felt like watching lost is like jerking off for an hour without climax… Reason for the two timelines- So Kate can end up with sawyer and jack. That way no one can bitch. I fell asleep duing the kate episode, they should have left Claire dead but, she has lost some wieght since moaning at the bedside of arron. hELLhOLE

  54. jason

I forgot to post the link earlier…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQGzTYymZT0

Here is AL TRAUTWIG’s thoughts on last week’s episode.

This is where I’m still confused, when Sun and Ben landed on the island it was 3 years later so that puts them in 2007 while the others went back to 1977. When Juliete smashed the bomb they went forward and supposedly are with everyone in 2007. The plane should be in 2004 because nothing happened. How are they flashing sideways?????????

Jason, Jonathan, Adam, Totallylost someone help please.

  56. Scott

For the calculator word that the show apparently will end on, I think I’m going to go with 707. Which is “LOL” upside down.

I picture it being played out using Kbrulz’s theory on Vincent sitting on the beach. As the camera pans out, you hear his thoughts – “We didn’t answer half of the questions you were hoping for. LOL”. The End.

  57. richard7769

Hey guys I know this has probably been posted already but here is the 815 crash in real time.

It’s really pretty good. Enjoy. Less than 10 hours away BRING IT ON!!!!!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKcKtjrL5bc

  58. jonathan

    Richard,
I guess that the massive electromagnetic field on the island causes a change in spacetime and then time there passes much more slowly than normal time in outside world.

Remember when Locke met Whidmore in Tunysia, the spoke about that time difference of their last meeting on the island.

At some point the timelines will converge, i am pretty sure about that…

When Juliet said it worked, maybe she could see a different timeline, like Desmond could, also because of the explosion of the swan.

The island is on a loop, so every time its changed in someway(just progress)it may create a slight different reality, till it finally ends ( it only ends once).

  59. kbrulz

Mock my theory if you must, Scott. Take away the Vincent part, and it’s not any more far fetched than a lot of things I’ve read on here. But really, would you be surprised if something like this were to happen? Matthew Fox said in an interview this summer that he knew how the show was ending. And, he said the last image is what he thought it would be all along. I’m not saying it’s gonna be the stupid dog theory. But, if he’s right, are we all looking too damn hard for the answer? I still think they’re all gonna be dead.

  60. Scott

Wasn’t trying to mock your theory. I just thought the image of Vincent sitting there smiling on the beach was funny, so I figured I’d build on it.

They’ve said they are all alive, and that its all actually happening (its not taking place in Hurleys imagination). But you never know, they could just be saying that to keep the ending a surprise.

At this point, I’ve learned not to ever discount anyone’s theories because no one ever knows for sure how the shows gonna turn out each week. That’s why we made this site – because I love hearing everyone’s thoughts. So keep em coming.

  61. kbrulz

No, I know you weren’t really mocking me. I don’t think they’re dead now, I think they’ll be dead at the end of the show because of the war that Whidmore talked about. I thought about something someone else said, that they think there will be two endings, one on-island, and one off-island. I think the one on the island will be totally crazy with everyone dying and then the off island one, will have everyone living happily ever after…A cheap way to give everyone what they want.

  62. richard7769

I just got finished watching tonight’s episode and WOW what an event. I’ll post more tomorrow. I have to watch it again here in a few minutes.

    CRAP my head is spinning.

  63. adam

don’t take the flash sideway to literally. it just means they are showing the two timelines as they run paralell. One is with the bomb going off and getting them to land safely and the other is if they didn’t land.

these 2 timelines will def intersect at some point for sure…no doubt about it.

I also just finished this weeks and it was good. locke episodes always are!

  64. jason

    Holy SHIT!!!!

DAMN GOOD EPISODE!!!!! ON SO MANY LEVELS… AM I GETTING CONNED BY MIB!!! I AM STARTING TO FEEL SORRY FOR THIS GUY…

  67. Totallylost

Jason- I can’t wait to get to this site to see your episode reactions!!!! That’s always good stuff!!!!!

I have been traveling and have a bit of jet lag (got home 1/2 hr before the episode), so at the moment, I can’t say that the episode blew me away, or even answered some of the gazillion questions I have. I am, however, very perplexed as to who is Jacob and who is MIB, and who the hell is good or bad. So, I am going to sleep on it, recover, re-watch in the a.m., and then comment.

    Until then my fellow losties!!!!!

  68. Totallylost

Won’t real time catch-up with island time… Like when the Doc on the freighter got his throat slit?

  71. Jones

Agreed TL, why isn’t Kate’s name one of the numbers, however it showed her being visited by Jacob. There is something up with that
I had a feeling that Sawyer would see through the New Locke (i.e. know that he wasn’t the same) because as a con man I guess that is part of his strengths. So true though how he put it. Locke always seemed scared or unsure of himself, MIB isn’t.
Jonathan mentioned “So each number on the Valenzzetti equation is related to a character” do you think that the there is a count down happening as people on the list come to the island. Could it be a count down to the war, or to the end or even both. As Jacob mentioned on the beach “It only ends once, everything else is just progress”.
So MIB was once a man and is now trapped on the island. Trapped on the island part is no shock but the fact that he was once a man was pretty interesting.
MIB told Saywer there are 3 choices
    Do nothing.
    Perform Jacob’s job.
    Just go.
This implies that they do have choice and freewill. Yet MIB has just told him that since Jacob visited he hasn’t actually had choices and that everything was just a series of events to lead him to the island.
Great episode. I had a big smile on my face the whole time.

  72. Jones

I’m not sure island time will catch up.
They were rescued after 108 days on the island and the oceanic press conference happened according to that timeline.
Also when they go back to the the island on flight 316 (the second one) Sawyer asks how long its been for them and they say 3 years, the same as what it was for Sawyer.

There is something up with time on the island just I don’t think that the two timelines will converge unless there is some sort of additional time travel.

  73. jonathan

Also, in this time loops that happen on and off the island, maybe after the loop ends, and once it begins again, people can remember some of the past timeline, in a kind of a deja vu way or unconsciously, in different levels of memory.

That could explain the drawing hanging on the wall made by young Locke when visited by Richard to test him.

There was a smoke monster drawing there . At the time i asked myself how could Locke as a child know about smokie.

The explanation could be that since Locke was taken by the smoke monster on and on in a timeloop, once it started again he had some sort of memory of that.

Or in the pilot episode when Jack opened his eyes and ran exactly in the right direction to the beach…

In LA X, they showed Kate looking at Jack when she was hijacking the taxi, it was a weird look, as she knew him.

Jack could have remembered Desmond from that time they met on the stadium stairs, or, maybe that meeting didnt happen in that timeline of LA X , and Jack had a recollection of Desmond from one timeloop…

  74. jonathan

Its worth watching that meeting of Richard and Locke again. It definetely has a meaning…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmKcKiz05Ns

Tell me what you think , what was that test about?

    Memories of previous lifes?

Why Richard was disapointed about the items Locke chose?

That knife was the same we saw Flocke taking from the ground in The substitute?

In that little glass, was it sand or ashes?

What about the other objects, who they belonged to?

  75. adam

I did think it was interesting that Kate didn’t have a number. Hope it means she will die.

  76. adam

i forgot about that richard said which of these belonged to you already.

Have you ever said “It must have been in another life”

Maybe they are all living life for a 2nd, 3rd, or 8th time. In each life they are brought to the island but never accomplish what they are suppose to, but do make progress. Which may explain owning an item already. So maybe in a previous life John owned the compass and sand.

    IDK…

  77. jonathan

Sorry for so many posts todays, its a holiday in Brazil…

This scene shows the Book of Laws, one of the items showed by Richard to Young Locke.

Ecko gives the book to Locke in the Swan and tells him a strange story…

  78. Karen

    hey jonathan

    feliz carnaval !!!

  79. Karen

ok so i just watched this episode which i thought was much better than the last one. It did answer some questions, at long last ! we now know that the smoke monsters is MIB for sure, rival of Jacob (this being quite symbolic when Locke and Sawyer came to the cave and Locke threw away the white stone – kinda “the evil have triumphed” – very symbolic!).

in the cave there was KAte missing, she also encountered Jacob when she was a kid.

What’s the deal with the little boy?? reminded me of someone but just cant pinpoint it…

  80. Karen

Jonathan, post 69 – where did you get these from ??? pls explain

  81. Karen

Jonathan, thanks for those interesting links.

    1) i dont know what that test is about, if it was about JL’s previous life then of course the knife was the right answer! that item clearly had belonged to him, just as say the compass. Why does Richard get so upset about it ? Hypothesis: maybe this visit happened in time, RA wanted to verify that Locke was still locke and hadn’t been yet possessed by MIB. And so he wasnt in fact disappointed but happy. otherwise, maybe he would have liked john to become someone else, not a hunter or a faith man, but someone else… but hey, make a little effort in that case!

    2) although the book is the same one, i dont see the liaison… its 2 separate stories, john’s life and the orientation video. Eko’s story is quite interesting though

  82. Scoppie

Cor. A truly great episode, instant top ten, and I get the feeling they’re only going to get better…

    Spoilers etc.

So much happened over the course of the forty minutes it’s hard to know where to start – the candidates, the numbers, Ben the teacher (who seems like a total loser btw), smokey being “stuck this way”, smokey and Sawyer seeing the kid and Richard NOT, the list goes on and on. I hope the writers pace their revelations, there’s only so much WTF I can take in one ep…

Most stuff’s already been covered in previous chats, but there’s still lots left over, starting with alternate Locke. Not only is he still with Helen in this reality, but he’s also close enough to his dad to invite him to their wedding. Which begs the question – how did he end up in the wheelchair in this reality?

This is something I’ve been puzzling over since S6 Ep1: if the island ceased to exist when Juliet’s nuke went off, how come so many of the alternate characters’ lives are more or less as we remember them? Locke’s was the hardest to explain, as it seemed as if Jacob’s touch had kept him alive after his crippling fall – if Jacob was never there, how did Locke survive? Now it seems as though the lack of the island and Jacob in their pasts have even more of a far-reaching impact than I’d thought.

But then, Jacob wasn’t around for the other candidates’ defining moments either. So Sawyer never wrote his letter, Kate never learned that stealing was okay if you were cute, and so on – all those manipulations Smokey mentioned. Man, I need to watch this one again…

Other great stuff: Rose’s little speech to John, Smokey shouting “Don’t tell me what I can’t do” at the kid (is Smokey taking on John’s characteristics?), Of Mice & Men being “After my time” and Frank’s “weird funeral”.

I really hope The Substitute marks the opening of the revelatory floodgates, ‘cos if they keep going at this rate, they might even be able to tie the whole show off neatly.

  83. kbrulz

Richard is pissed that he didn’t choose the compass because Locke gave it to him when they were flashing through time. That’s how Richard knew to be there when John was born, as well. He wanted him to choose the compass to validate him being special. He told Jack (when they were dismantling the bomb) that he had visited John several times and he didn’t seem special to him. This was one of those times.

A funny note about last night’s episode; when Sawyer gives Locke a shot, what when he walks over to his couch. It looks like Sawyer shit his pants, he’s got some sort of huge brown stain on his boxers…

  84. jason

jonathan… My GOODNESS MAN SLOW DOWN!!! LOL YOU ARE ON POINT! I feel you are really on to some things here.

One thing that crossed my mind is when we first met MIB, the dialog between him and Jacob. Was that realy MIB in anothers body??? aaaannnddd if so who was that man. If not then oh well.

What also struck me was he mentioned that at one time he was actually in love…..

It would be interesting if the riff between them somehow ties to that and the whole Adam and Eve thing.

  85. Totallylost

Hey folks. I’ve had some time to think. First, kbrulz, I also noted the stain on sawyers pants. I am a girl after all, and thought he was hot until I saw that. Hopefully I will get over it!!!

OK, here are my questions/ comments, which I will break up into 2 posts.

    1. Illana. Why the tears in the cave? Did she really care about Bram et all, or was it all about Jacob. Could she be Jacob’s daughter??? Also, how did she know that Jin was on the Island.

    2. The Kid. The first time that only Locke saw him he had blood on his arms, but the second time when both Locke and sawyer saw him he did not. Why?? I know that Jason was wondering if the kid was Aaron, but I think it was Jacob reincarnated. Second, the kid said to Locke: “You know the rules. You can’t kill him.” Well, who is “him.” All along I thought that only MIB and Jacob could not kill each other. But now I am thinking that MIB cannot harm those that Jacob touched. That takes me back to season 1 when Kate was chased by smokey, and then in season 3 when she and Juliette were cornered by smokey in the trees. It was like smokey was flashing lights at them at held back from getting them. I mean clearly smokey was strong enough to get to them, but he did not. Is this why???

    3. Richard Alpert- How did you like his Ben-like bug eyes. That guy was afraid of MIB, so there is definitely something major about MIB that we will find out.

OK– See the post below for the rest.

  86. Totallylost

Here are the rest of my questions/comments.

Locke off Island- Was it just me, or when Ben and Locke shook hands in the teacher lounge, did Locke flash a devious smile??? For a minute I thought that it was MIB working out his plan, but I don’t know. That smile was NOT right.

Also, John’s comment: “I was once a man like you” Does this mean that mortal’s can become immortal?? Also, for some reason Charles Widmore flashed into my mind,as I think he wanted that immortality, hence the obsession with the island, but could not get it. Clearly immortality is not all it is cracked up to be. Maybe when you become immortal you sell your soul so you are forever trapped.

Locke/Sawyer in the cave- When sawyer asked MIB how they leave the island, MIB said “together.” Well, that tells me that MIB cannot leave alone, so he is conning poor sawyer into being a stool pigeon to help him. I think Jason was right that the conman is getting conned.

Last, can i nitpick?? Please?? OK. When Illana, Ben, Sun and Lapidus were leaving the beach, it was daytime. But they get to the beach in record time while luggin dead weight, as the sun was still sky high. COME ON LOST!!!!!!!!!! On the way to the statute at the end of last season the others walked for hours, stopped to rest frequently, drank plenty of water, and did not arrive until night. In fact John made a speech about how far it was. Sheesh. Last, why lug “ripe” John to the beach for burial? Dig a pit right in the sand and be done with it. What the hell???

Well, that is all for now.

  87. Totallylost

One more thing. This whole thing about being a candidate. When Illana said MIB was recruiting, I immediately thought of her question: “what lies in the shadow of the statute.” May that question weeds out those who have been recruited or who could possibly be a candidate for recruitment, or those who have already chosen a side. I am not sure how Lapidus figures in this as last season Illana said he “might” be a candidate.

By the way, I miss Farady.

  88. jonathan

    Karen, feliz carnaval too!

That was the list of names written on the cave ceiling, wich i got from this site

    http://the-odi.blogspot.com/

  89. jonathan

    Dear Kbrulz, post 83:

Young Locke did choose the compass.

  90. kbrulz

Johnathan – I took it as he chose the knife only, and was only looking at the compass and whatever was in the little glass tube. Because the other objects he kinda just looked at and set back down, but he held on to the knife. But, I think you’re right. So, now I am confused as to why Richard was pissed and left.

Adam – I think we all agree and can’t wait for Kate to die. I had more of an emotional attatchment to Juliet and she was on what, 3 seasons? Kate is such a hard character to root for. Mostly because the person who plays her seems like such a gigantic bitch. There’s a group on facebook called, “Vincent should attack and eat Kate”. Pretty funny stuff.

  91. kbrulz

or Jonathan – my bad for misspelling your name

  92. np99

hey guys…def have to agree that this week’s episode was waaay better…in response to the richard/young locke scene, i thought richard was upset because he expected locke to pick the compass. locke gave richard the compass when he was time traveling, and richard didn’t really believe his whole time traveling thing, so locke told him to find him the year he was born. (hence why richard was at the hospital when locke was a baby). maybe richard was trying to figure out the time traveling stuff out with locke and figured he would somehow remember the compass and then got upset when he didn’t pick it.

  93. np99

oops just read post 83…kbrulz i agree! :)

  94. Bex

Only just watched it so only one thing popped into my
    head during….

It was Elle Louise Hawking that insisted on Johns body to be put on the plane when they sent them back, do u think shes something to do with MIB ! Cos Ben pooed his pants when John mentioned her which is why he killed him, wasn’t it :O)

  95. Scoppie

Totallylost, I completely agree with you on the Locke burial trek. I know it’s very poetic to take his body all the way back to the original camp and lay him alongside Boon and Sharon and Paulo and Nikki etc, but it just doesn’t sit right, not just because of the time/distance thing, but because Smokey is on the rampage and Sun is still trying to find Jin. She never cared enough about Locke back on the mainland to attend his funeral, Ilana never knew the guy, and Ben killed him! What possible reason have they got to trudge all that way? Just bury him in the sand and run to the temple!

  96. jonathan

    np99:
    taken from lostpedia…

Richard was pleased when Locke chose the compass and vial of sand, and smiled slightly as the child considered the book, but Locke ultimately chose the knife. At this, Richard turned cold and left, telling Florence that he was sorry to have wasted their time. (“Cabin Fever”) .

  97. jason

Don’t forget the “Rules” exchange between Ben and Wimore…!!1

  98. richard7769

OMG ALL of you have hit on all my points! The way MIB took on Locke’s mentality of “Don’t tell me what I can do!”
The kis I believe is AAron but could be Jacob. I did catch the blood on his hands at first but not the second. Wasn’t there a time that Sawyer also saw a dead body in the jungle?
The other, if you go outside you may still hear me laughing at Ben’s comment at the funeral “he was a good man and I’m sorry I murdered him” F’n PRICELESS!!!!!
wasn’t there a book from the black rock that Widmore bought I wonder if that has an influence?
Lastly that has to be MIB cave he knew where everything was… I have to believe that it’s his.
How about Hurley being the businessman of the year…… If I was Locke I would have left that boss a special surprise in his desk before i left.

  99. Scoppie

Mental note to self – If a guy called Richard 7769 ever comes for an interview at my place of work, DO NOT employ him.

  100. Totallylost

Bex- I totally forgot about Eloise and insisting that John’s body get taken back. She might very well be in cohoots with MIB. Maybe MIB needed to use a body that had been “touched” by Jacob for the plan to work, and john was it Time will tell, as I bet we are not done with her yet.

Scoppie- I am laughing, as I forgot that Illana never knew John and Ben killed him, so why the burial. And yes Richrd7769- the Ben line at the gravesite was great.

Richard7769- Why do you think the kid is Aaron?? I was going to say that Aaron was only 4 yrs old and this kid looked 8 or 9, but I am so screwed up with the timeline, who knows.

Last, WHERE THE HELL IS WALT?????????
