However, I’m surprised that they would actually show what happened when the bomb goes off (an official version has been released on ABC.com). I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some other twist that happens.

OMG!!!!!!!! WHAT A WAY TO KICK OFF THE SEASON!!!!! Best F’n 2 hours I’ve spent this year. IF you haven’t seen it yet please don’t read.
First when Juliet died it was so sad, but then Miles to say it worked really kind of clicked with me. Right now I would say that the plane is the way it would have worked out if they never crashed and I believe they never did. I believe their souls belong to the island and their bodies are living out what was supposed to happen.Don’t kill me on this it’s a working theory.
Second, the temple REALLY intrigues me, and Sayid coming back to life at the end was a great shocker.It was interesting to see the healing ritual of them holding him under the water sort of killing him to be “reborn”. A word to Jack though little Oriental guys in long robes can kick your ass 9 out of 10 times.
Third, I believe Jacob knew he was going to die, thus the guitar case, and he had put a plan in place. The rocket with the flares maybe to let Ilayna know that they were prepared against the man in black (Lock Jr.).
Lastly, Richard I believe was a slave on the Black Rock and Jacob saved him or used him to help him with whatever he needed, thus making him immortal and “MIB” doesn’t seem too happy with him maybe because he chose sides a long time ago.
Finally, SUN looked good last night don’t you think???

My favorite part was after MIB changed into the monster killed most of Ilana’s crew and then reappared as Locke to Ben and said “I’m sorry you had to see me like that” Classic.
Agreed Juliet’s death was said, what do you think she meant by “it worked”. Do you think that as she died she somehow flashed to the alternate timeline.
Adam – Des was on the plane so I guess his story isn’t finished yet. Very happy if that is the case.
As a few of us have said, now then ever I think that Jacob knew that he was going to be killed. Why else would he have brought Hurley back and given him the case with the note hidden inside.
So in the alt timeline daddy Sheppard is still missing and it seems like Jack wants a crack at reversing Lockes handycap. And the island is at the bottom of the ocean? WTF.
I am with you on your thinking on Alpert Richard7769, the only thing I was thinking is that I don’t think Alpert was a slave I think he was a part of the people transporting the slaves and in punishment (or what ever you want to call it) for that he was enslaved by Jacob to do his bidding.

Good Morning all. Gosh– where do I start.
It was a great 2 hours. I am with Jason in that I have not yet formulated my theory re the plane. But with Desmond there and Christian missing I am confused. To me it seems like they are showing us what would have happened if they landed but that it would eventually be bad for all of them. Not everyone seems particularly happy, like Kate, Sun, Jin, Charlie, Claire (now that she is with a gun toting Kate). Now Desmond, Sayid, Rose and Bernard do for now but Nadia will die, Rose will get sick, Bernard will be a widow, and Widmore will still be trying to keep Desmond from penny. But did John really go on a walkabout??? Well, enough of that.
Sayid. Even though we know that Dead is Dead, with him waking up is he now an “other”?? I still remember when Ben was shot and Richard said at the temple that he would be different when he wakes up. So is that now true of Sayid??
OK—Julietee’s “I have to tell you something” I thought for sure that was going to tell him she was pregnant because last year when she saw Rose and Bernard on the beach she had her hand on her stomach, and that is always a dead giveaway. And, I could not see Miles telling sawyer the truth (if that is what it was), as that would have put the poor guy over the edge and he could have hit Miles with the shovel.
The Statute scene. First and foremost, bye-bye Bram. Did he really have a bag of ash in his pocket??? Well, at least we know that you can hit a beam above ones head and that will easily knock you out of the circle. And Jones, yes great line by MIB “sorry you had to see me like that.”
Last, why didn’t anyone shoot MIB when he jacked Richard??? Not even tough girl Illana??? They hung poor Richard out to dry.
Well, that is all for now. I will watch again and wrap my head around this crazy mess.

I agree with most of you in that I don’t have a theory yet but more of just things i noticed.
The airplane scene was very different and the characters were very different from their original characters. Jack got only one bottle of liquor and originally it was 2. He was nervous during the original scene but this time he was calm and rose was nervous
The black powder that bram used was the same powder around jacobs cabin way back when so that was protecting him from the smoke monster, who we now know is the MIB. What is the significance of the powder? what is it? someones ashes?
How come when they say there are risks to helping sayid no one asks what the risks are????? What the fuck!!!! I was annoyed at that…it’s an obvious question!!
Desmond was on the plane but then he wasn’t and shannon, Mchael and walt were not there.
When Sayid came back to life at the end that guy who speaks the english for the asian guy was surprised. so whatever they did to him didn’t work and something else is at play.
Why does MIB want off the island?
What really interested me though was this::
At the end MIB say’s locke was the only one who realized that his life back home was pitiful and wanted to stay on the island. Which means everyone elses life was pitiful (which we knew) and should have wanted to stay…that was their fate or lifes plan.
In the recap show before the premiere narrated by Ben he says that the survivors thought by blowing up the bomb things would change but fate has a way of stepping in and making happen what was intended to happen.
what is intended is for them to stay on the island and fight the war that whidmore talked about which we now know looks like everyone on the island vs MIB/smoke monster

One thing that bothered me was all the god damn commercials.
every 8 minutes there is a commercial…literally every 8 minutes. that sucked.

I think when MIB said he wanted to go home, he meant back to the temple. Somehow Jacob was keeping him out of there and the people there safe. Once they found out he was dead, they all panicked and started preparing to keep MIB out because they knew he’d be coming “home”.
Also one other thing that was different in the plane scene was that Jack had long hair. Originally he had a shaved head. This could be just due to filming or it could be something more. Not sure.
One other thing I thought was weird was the big wooden symbol that Jacob’s note was in. Seems like a pretty unnecessarily large object to hide a note in. When I first saw it, I thought it was a key of some sort.

Scott- Good thought about the temple possibly being “home” for MIB. My only other thought about that is that when smokey dragged Danielle’s crew member down there he seemed to have no problem getting in. Then again, maybe that ash ring was further inside so smokey lingered on the outskirts.
Second, about Miles telling Sawyer that Juliette was going to say it worked. Well, what if the island events and the plane/back in LA events are two parallel universes that are destined to intersect at some point. Maybe Juliette saw a glimpse of her and Sawyer together in the future so she thought whatever happened in 1977 worked.
Also, what caused the island to sink. Was it the bomb or did the massive release of electromagnetic energy sink it.
Time for my second look. Wow, my mind is spinning.
Jones – I was reminded on another site that Miles cannot speak to dead people, he can only get immpressions about their feelings before they died. So when he told Sawyer that Juliet felt that “It worked”, was was she referring to?
I don’t think it had anything to do with the detonation. How would she know that BEFORE she died?
OR, maybe Miles just said that to give Sawyer and answer, and it’s not really what he “felt”.
Adam – Do we really know that MIB wants to leave the island? All he said was that he wants to go home. But is he referring to a certain place, or a certain time?
Richard – I think it is possible that Jacob can travel through other people’s bodies. Do we know for sure it wasn’t Jacob using Christian’s body?
One more thing.
Adam- I agree with the damn commercials. It was way too much.
Richard7769- re Jacob being able to inhabit the dead. Good thought as well, except that it seems that you need to be alive to inhabit another, and, well, dead is dead.
It is the conversation MIB has that make me think he wants to get off the island. He was talking about people getting on or off when he made the comment so I do believe he wants off the island.
Although when they go through the hole where the french guys got killed it is the same hole the smoke monster goes into and the same hole that leads them to the temple. So it def could be his home.
Totallylost I would agree maybe that’s why Jacob had them take Sayid to the temple and drown him so he could inhabit him before he died.

I think that each person will come face to face with his/her other self and then have to make a “choice” which life do you want to lead? The life where you are on the island and your plane has crashed, or the life where you land safely in LA.

I don’t think Sayid is now Jacob or MIB. If you notice there are two Locke’s (MIB locke and dead body locke). Its not that MIB took control of Locke’s lifeless body, he actually recreated it. Sayid’s lifeless body came back to life which probably means a miracle really happened. The same miracle that happened to Ben. Most likely Sayid and Ben will play a very important role in defeating MiB. Will Ben and Sayid have some special protection from Jacob against MiB since they were both resurrected?
Random note: Remember when Locke confused the smoke monster for a good natured spirit and was dragged into a hole? It would seem he confused the smoke monster with the good natured Jacob. Which makes me wonder if Jacob, when alive could become ‘smoke-like’ too.
Why did the cabin need the protection circle around it? MiB can’t directly harm Jacob… so what was the circle around the cabin really protecting?
Who is the dog? Christian talks to the dog likes its a human. I’m assuming Christian was really MiB at that point.

Scott(not that one)- Great point about the ash ring, as MIB and Jacob could not hurt one another so what was its purpose?? If to keep MIB in, it must have happened after the losties came because smokey was running around free when the plane crashed. Maybe when Ben and John went to the cabin the first time and we thought Jacob said “help me” it was really MIB who got locked in their by the ash, possibly put there by one of the “others.” Maybe Ben or Locke broke it when they left, hence letting smokey out.
So confused . . . . I have more questions than ever.
About Sayid now being Jacob, WOW!!!! That would explain why it was so important for Jacob to convince Hurley to get Sayid to the temple. And, what better guy for Jacob to inhabit. Sayid can torture, kill, is an expert with a knife and gun, can turn off the emotion (unlike Jack), can dismantle a hydrogen bomb core, can sail a boat, build a walkie-talkie, and a whole host of other things.

I abandoned the show in 2007 when it becamse obvious that the only thing driving the show was the network’s need to squeeze every last drop out of a great idea. I tuned in again last night and boy was I right? It is utterly despicable to see what has happened to that show. The careful character development and ingenius flash backs of the original series has been replaced by supernatural, time-traveling, matter displacement absurdities. When John Locke (or whoever he was supposed to be) turned into the sandmonster I thought I was watching something out of Indiana Jones. Absolutely disgusting what the pursuit of the almight dollar has done for that show. I’m sure the same will happen with “FlashForward” too

Hi folks. Here is my 2nd look at hour 1.
1. Another great line. When Jacob told Hurley he died an hour ago, Hurley said “sorry dude, that sucks.” I love it.
2. When sawyer first got to Juliette, she repeatedly said “it did not work.” Yet still, Miles claims she said “it worked” what gives??
3. The fact that the “list” was in the guitar case, Jacob had to know that Hurley was coming back to the island. So his overall plan for the island is very far reaching. I guess we need to wait for it to unfold. Also, I do not, think he anticipated Sayid getting shot so when he saw Him by the van I think the “get him to the temple” was Jacob improvising.
4. I have called Ben bug-eyed many times, but when He saw John laying in the sand, he had friggin saucers for eyes. Those saucers were even bigger when he saw MIB morph into Smokey.
5. Why wouldn’t Ben tell Richard what happened in the temple when he knew he’d been had?? I would think that he would want some support in trying to defeat the fake Locke.
6. What was the little item Bram picked up from the temple floor just after he shot MIB. I could not tell. Is it something significant???
7. Why was Smokey able to take out Bram and his 2 dudes so easily, but could not do the same for Keammy and his men after Keammy killed Alex. Only one of those guys were bloodied and Keammy did not have a scratch on him (unfortunately).
8. How do you like Bram-the Dracula like name, being killed by a wooden stake in the heart. That is classic.

Adam – I dont think Widmore was banished from the island until after Ben had grown older. Ben was still a child and recently shot by Sayid in the 70s when the bomb was detonated. So that mean Widmore would still be on the island.
Here is my 2nd look for hour 2.
The translator in the temple said the following to Hurley’s question about what the paper said: “if your friend dies, we are all in a whole lot of trouble.” So it confirms that Sayid is very important to Jacob’s plan. But, when Sayid died, no one seemed particularly alarmed. What gives??
The temple symbols looked less Egyptian (like in the tunnel where Ben saw Alex) and more nature related. Does this mean something??
What language was the Shogun in the temple speaking? Was it Japanese?? He reminded me a tiny pit of Pang Wei in Kill Bill Vol. II.
The flair sent out by the temple. Did it tell Richard that Jacob was dead or that MIB was loose. The look of horror on Richard’s face tells me that he thought this guy was somehow permanently banished or contained, and the fact that he was clearly out was the worst possible scenario.
When Ben and MIB were in the temple after he killed Bram et al, he told Ben what John’s last thought was when killing him. Well, how did he know?? Was he somehow there??
Was it just me or just after Hurley told Sayid that he was around if he wanted to talk, the mystery waters were no longer red??
Last one. What did MIB mean when he said at the end “I am very disappointed with all of you.” Did he know them, or was he talking to Ben and Illana. Help????
hmm…can somebody help explain me why Jack (on the plane) and Daniel (before he got shot) have the same bruise on side of thier neck?? can they be related somehow???

Bram Picked up a fired bullet that hit MiB Locke. The end was smashed as if it hit Superman. Apparently MiB Locke cannot be killed conventionally.

I thought he was banished because he was doing the dead off the island with penny’s mom. Either way Hawking isn’t Penny’s mom.
Jacob gave Hurley the case with the symbol and names. He also talked him into getting on the plane. so he def has a plan and knew what was going to happen…at least i think so.
The 2 alternate time lines will def intersect at some point.
Next weeks episode has a lot about Kate i read also.

first of all, let me say that for a such expected episode i was a bit disappointed. the start was all i was expecting: the bomb goes off, they are all in the plane, makes sense… but did you notice the discrepancies ?? 1) what the heck is desmond doing on the plane?? 2) hurley appears to be the luckiest guy alive and 3) boone is without Shannon, to quote some. Therefore, the present/past seems to have remained but it was altered

The only thing i really did like about this episode was the Esau/Locke part. Excellent ! Lock/esau begining to get a bit scary, wow! great to see Locke in such an interesting role
we’ll see what the next episodes will bring but i was not at all impressed by this one, overall with the temple stuff and the chinese man and his people

In many ways were they are going now it makes sense. It still is in theme with good against bad. However now it seems to suggest one time thread good…the other thread bad… now which one will win? Karen, if you get a chance here is a review of the season primier, you may like… but then again you may not eitherway enjoy:-)

I’m in Merrie Olde Englande, so I’ve only just managed to download and catch LA X Parts 1&2 (woo mama, etc), and I’ve avoided this page and its spoilers like the plague recently for obvious reasons.
NOW… first off, I think it’s great that after ditching flashbacks, flashforwards AND time travel, the show’s creators have gone even further and added a dash of multiple dimensions. I wish other TV shows were as challenging and ballsy. I’m not sure the two dimensions will intersect though, in fact does anyone wanna bet the characters in the New Dimension are all going to end up dead through a series of interconnected events, which is why they were brought to the island in the first place?
Second – Locke is Smokey is MiB. We all suspected it, but the way it was confirmed was great. However… is he/it really that bad? Was Jacob really that good? MiB’s speech to Ben about Locke and his comment about being “disappointed” with (presumably) The Others got me thinking.
How do we REALLY know Jacob’s Others, with their kidnapping, murdering, drowning, deceitful, controlling ways ARE actually “the good guys”? What if it’s REALLY Smokey who we should be rooting for here? I thought his choice of opening quote from the season 5 finale was very telling: “they fight, they destroy, they corrupt” – he didn’t sound like he approves of such behaviour…
One other thing: the “New” Hurley, what’s up with him? He describes himself as “the luckiest guy alive,” and really seems to believe it when he introduces himself to Sawyer. It’s as though all the bad luck that he’d experienced when we first met him has been replaced by good luck and he’s been getting everything he wants and needs, like he’s been blessed.
Not only that, but we know he’s won the lottery in this new dimension too, which means he must have used the numbers. But in the new dimension THE NUMBERS ARE GOOD. He’s even willing to go on TV and promote his fast-food chain, something the old, pessimistic Hugo would never have dreamed of doing. I think the effects of the numbers have been altered by the blast, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they also have something to do with who controls the island – Jacob or Smokie.
Just a thought. Good to be back, shame it’s all gotta end soon!
P.S. Sean O’Brien: I recommend you invest in an attention span and an open mind, they’re wonderful things to have…

I think you are the first one to suggest that we may have the good and bad guys backwards. Holy smokes. That thought has the potential to turn everything upside down and would be a greater shock than seeing dead locke spill out of the crate. After all, when people claim they are the good guys (i.e. Bram and Illana) it is usually a lie.
I also wondered about that disappointment comment from MIB( see post 69). It seemed strange. Maybe that also explains richard’s shock when he said “you” at the end.

You know Scoppie, you really have me thinking about Jacob possibly being bad and MIB being good. Remember when Alex was killed and Ben summoned smokey to get Keammy’s men. Well, assuming smokey was MIB and thus bad, why would he avenge Alex’s murder at Ben’s request? It seems to me that smokey would be on the side of the bad guys instead of Ben. Yet still MIB punished Keammy’s men for doing wrong. What gives?
And what about Echo for that matter- why would MIB kill an unrepentant fake priest drug dealer like Echo if MIB was a bad guy? If MIB was good I can see him killing Echo, but not if he was bad.
Last, remember in Season 1 when John was pulled by smokey to the hole and John said “let me go” but Jack was holding on to him until they threw the dynamite in. Well, maybe that was MIB trying to get John on his side to defeat Jacob.
OK- I am rambling, but something is very very wrong here.
OK, just watched it after a overnight download of 700mb, yes the connections are very slow here…and I dont feel guilty about ti because i will buy the boxset when it comes out like i have with all the others…Its just that it will only come on TV here in about 2 months and i cant wait that long.

AMAZING start! I was very impressed how the new season began, had never expected that way, or better said two ways. That´s a bit too confusing to show two different possibilities of what could had happened after the detonation in the 70´s. Honestly i don´t like the “safe boring plane flight and succesfull landing way. Much more exciting is the action on the island…
I read the posts above and most of you guys said everything important as usually…., but did someone noticed the kung-fu lesson from MIB-Locke against “Ricardo” and the mysterious leader of the temple-others against Jack. The clothes the temple-others were wearing looked a bit like pirates (one of them had a red “turban” on his head, very oriental) everything seems a bit of 19th century for me, which leads me to assume the temple-others (some of them) are originally black rock slaves or something similar..!!
When MIB said to Ilana & Co, “i´m very disappointed of you all”, he could mean it the way he said it to jacob about the *humans* which are coming to the island. MIB isn´t human! It´s like he have convicted the people already.

I think that the two story lines will def intersect. The reason why is that time off the island is much faster than it is on the island. Since on the island it is 2007 and off the island it is 2004 (based on the plane landing safely). So at some point they will come together.

i dont know if the discrepancies will ever really come in to play. Based on the interview that they did on jimmy kimmel live after the show aired tho makes it seem like there is a significance to them.

OK, I’m going to go out on a limb and go completely against what everyone else seem to be saying – I really don’t think the two realities are going to merge, or if they do it won’t involve anything cheesey like both sets of characters meeting themselves and making a choice. I’d be very disappointed if something like that happened.
I’m guessing fate will dispose of the characters in this new dimension because none of them get to be who they should have been on the island, and they will be picked off, like in Final Destination. My chief reasoning for this: look at the way the episodes (including What Kate Does) seem to be edited – frantically, in realtime, almost like 24. I think a chain of events is being put in motion that will play out over a series of hours since their arrival at LA X, and it will end in disaster.
Adam, I know that time moves differently on the island and everything, but the island where Smokey and Jacob are battling it out is still four years ahead of the LA Xers, there’s no way the two dimensions could meet in one season. So why are there two dimensions in play…? Damned if I know! But it’s fun to watch…

I am surprised no-one has really yet picked up on the possible Jesus-like thing going on with Sayid……..immersed in water (baptism), resurrected from the dead. Given the strong biblical links revealed in the past, there may well be some biblical significance to the Sayid situation.
I’m still a bit confused about the bomb detonation thing too. Why do people think the bomb went off? If an atomic bomb had gone off at the site of the Swan hatch, then there would have been way more devastation at the site when our Losties woke up. In fact it seems more likely a ‘flash’ happened. If so, there would be no alternative reality playing out back in the real world. Having said that, I wonder if the alternative reality thing is a result of the bomb detonating at precisely the same moment as the flash occurring – thereby creating two realities.
Any thoughts.
Andy- My thoughts are that the release of the massive energy pocket at the swan site was responsible for putting the Losties back to the future. It is possible that it could have been a combination of the bomb detonating at the same time the energy pocket was released that somehow diffused the harmful effects of the bomb, but was enough to propel the losties in time. Something made Kate end up in a tree and I think it was more likely a release of natural energy than fusion/bomb energy.
I hope that makes sense and I hope we get a real answer of what happened this season.

Time moves so fast off the island that’s why it can catch up quickly. When Locke was in the hospital and Whidmore came in he said only like 3-4 days have gone by but it was like 3 years off the island. So they are def going to catch up. I have no doubt about it.
What happens once they do who knows but the choice thing i mentioned above was just a guess/theory.

I think there is going to be a lot more biblical type things going on then we have seen so far. I didn’t pick up on the Sayid thing but this show is littered with references. None of the characters seem to get it tho.
The season finale is on a Sunday tho so I’m sure we are heading down some biblical thing. Biblical people usually have a huge problem with things like this, (see Passion of The Christ, Dogma, Divinci Code)and that means ratings. But I think they will do it in a way that’s true to the show and not just for rating. Even though they have obviously sold plenty of commercial time!!

I did notice a few things (when taking a second look lol), The flight did land safely in L.A, but with no flight number or date? Shannon, Micheal and Walt were not on the flight, yet Desmond was. Jack was the only 1 that seen Desmond, was he really there? Can Desmonds consciousness swap between realities?
Sawyer seemed different almost a better man, more polite, offering help.
Rose n Bernard seemed more in love then ever, maybe Rose is cancer free now.

With Jack there were smaller changes, the flight attendent handed him only 1 bottle of Vodka not 2 (as on the first flight). He sat in row 24 not 23 n he seemed to have more faith.

All the signs n statues in Lost are Egyptian, referring to gods, life or death in one way or another. Is this island the battle field for good n evil? does the monster/smoke want to go home (to the Temple) is that his home? Seems that the Temple is pretty hidden and important, only those with names on the list got in and anyone else that came close died. Does this Temple hold all the power?
