Haley- We never found out how Locke’s father came to this island. He was just in the “magic box” as Ben called it. Nor do we know if it was really him given what has happened in this episode.

As for Ben, we never saw Ben again after Richard took him into the temple. I am also still not sure why RIchard took him there if Jacob lived under the statute.

As for your comment on the language, good call on that. I don’t think that anyone else has brought that up. I have no answer to that. Same with the pregnacy issue, although someone above suggested that the incident caused the statute to be destroyed.

Last, I don’t think we know for sure (like everything else with this show) if or even how the incident and loophole are connected. If in fact the loophole was Esua/MIB/Moses impersonating others and Locke to manipuulate Ben into killing Jacob, than maybe the incident was Jacob’s plan to get the losties to the future to right this wrong. Who knows. We will start finding out ina about 8 months!!!

Totallylost- Thanks! It’s so hard to remember everything thats happened.

Regarding Juliette; I originally thought she was going to die this season, I thought after the finale that she was actually dead. I did, however, keep hope alive that she may not be dead.

but after reading everyones comments from this weekend, I feel that with everyone on the same page about her character, and with her doing a new show, that any hope of her return is now gone. Shes dead.

The only minor thing that we may be able to cling to is that she may come back in the same regard as Jin. The season 4 finale had him exploding and led most of us to believe he died. only to have him resurface in season 5. The situations are different, but I feel if there is any hope of her being alive, that may be the only case that could support it. Ultimately, I think she is gone for good.

  4. Moohaha

Hayley, in re: to post 199. Q# 4, please read my previous Post # 117.

It is one dispute to your theory pertaining to the statues destruction being the cause of the female infertility.

Take a look and let us know what you think

  5. Moohaha

Also….if the theory of MIB/Moses/Easu being the smoke monster, or controlling the smoke monster, does anyone have any theories as to why smoke monster just flat out killed the pilot of 815 and the girl on Rousseaus science team. They didnt appear to have done anything wrong. Were they just to be made examples of, or if MIB is an incarnation of the monster, did he just not like the look of these people?

Even further, if this was in fact the MIB, maybe they will explain why he Smoke monster tried to drag Locke down the vent in season 1, and Montrand in season 5. He was trying to capture them, not kill them. Perhaps there was a reason for that? What does smoke monster have different “settings? Capture mode and berserker kill mode? I dont get that. Any ideas?

  6. Moohaha

one final thing for now, TL, youre a right in saying that all our theories and speculations from now until the next 8 months will most likely all be shot to shit in the first 10 minutes of the season 6.

But for some reason, we all come on here and post anyway.

  7. Dick Sargent

Hurley’s friend from the hospital was never on the island, but the smoke monster was able to impersonate him also. So the smoke monster must read your memories and be able to impersonate/shape shift into anyone or anything from your past memories.

I believe Smokey/Esau was in the cabin impersonating Jack’s father. I believe Esau/smokey was impersonating Locke. I think we can agree that Smokey/Esau has the power to shape shift, but we have not seen that ability from Jacob. Therefore, Smokey/Esau must have been in the cabin since we can agree that it was Jack’s father in the cabin.

One thing that doesn’t make sense to me is that we have seen Claire and Jack’s father together. Meaning either there is more than one shape shifter, spirits are actually on the island other than just Esau/Smokey, or Claire is not dead.

  8. Wolowitz

Moohaha thanks for reminding about Jin – how the fuck is he alive? I was adamant at the time he is dead and was pissed off when he came back but just kind of forgot about it until that post. Are they ever going to explain that one or are we meant to just let it slide? The only way I can see Juliet being alive is if that was a flash and they go froward to 2007, thus she would be lying in a crater where the hatch used to be holding a small rock. That better not happen because she should be dead along with Jin, nothing against the characters but if your going to kill the characters kill them. Otherwise we could have Nikki & Paulo walking around the island, cause they dug their way out out and I know nobody wants that.

Sorry for the rant and reminding everyone of the worst episodes of LOST, we all know which ones they were.

  9. Wolowitz

Did Dave ever exist? I thought he was just an imaginary character in Hurley’s head?

  10. jonathan

The episode was indeed awesome, but some motivations were really lame.

Jack – wants to detonate the bomb cause he lost Kate?
If it all goes back to the start, she would go to jail and they wouldnt get to know each other.
Wouldnt be easier to get try and get along with her again?
There was so many better reasons for him to want to erase what happened, like avoiding all his friends deaths…

Juliet – changed her mind and wants Jack to detonate the bomb cause she thinks Sawyer likes Kate? She is traumatized with separations? C’mon..how cheesy..

I am beggining to think Hurley is really special in some way. Being the only one to whom Jacob sincerely spoke to cant be for nothing.

I regret Desmond being out of the ending…maybe his legal problems have something to do with that…

Its all about black x white
    faith x free will
like the backgammon Locke played with Walt.

  11. Jon

I can’t wait for the new season! I really have no clue whats to come, but I love reading everyones thoughts and predictions..especially Al Trautwig’s…he always brings up good points. His latest discussion is here: Al Trautwig Thoughts

  12. Moohaha

    Wolowitz,

yeah I think Dave was just inside Hurelys imagination. We see the photo of Hurley in Santa Rosa, way before he came to the island, with his arm around Dave. But in the photo, its just air. Dave never really existed, he was just Hurleys manifestation of the little devil on his shoulder telling him to do bad things.

Also, about Juliet, thats right, if the island goes forward to 2007, she could very well be alive, because the Swan at that point has exploded leaving the crater behind, as opposed to a deep hole covered in concrete.

Lets hope they dont go the “Jin” route, and just leave dead as dead.

  13. Karen

    totallylost! Im here!! :) )

  14. Moohaha

    Jonathan,

speaking of the backgammon game Locke played with Walt….just be patient and follow me on this one….I feel that has the potential to come back to be a very pivotal scene. If indeed the Locke we know is now dead, we know he is still on the show, so Im assuming he will play the human embodiment of Esau/MIB. Perhaps also, Walt (like some on here are predicting) will find his way back to the island and become a future embodiment for Jacob, seeing as how he is “special” and all.

The backgammon scene, white vs black, dark vs light, Jacob vs MIB. Potentially, Locke vs Walt.

Im not exactly 100% sure on where this may be heading, but it would just support other theories on here of walt becoming the new jacob and leading the others against MIB (the new Locke)

Its interesting now to rewatch that scene from season 1. Remember when Locke says at the end of that scene “Hey Walt, do you wanna know a secret?”

I just assumed he told him that he used to be paralyzed. But maaaayyyyybeeee he told him something a lot more profound and involving this whole jacob-esau-future scenario.

Its far fetched, but we can get away with shit like that on here.

  15. Karen

hey ken, post 188 – extensive but very interesting! thanks a lot!
i too think that MIB is smokey – who/what else could it be?? i would like to know in season 6 why Richard doesnt age and why Jacob didnt age as well, yet he can die!
funny seeing locke kicking him into the fire – normally that would have been a major thing but it was like nothing! Ben was so shocked though

i agree that the statue may have been destroyed with the incident but normally the wreckage of the statue should have been somewhere, in the sea or aournd the island. yet, there is nothing! and who made it? a statue that big made by man hand, kinda difficult to conceive… yet piramides were done that way and this is an egyptian statue. a link there?

  16. Dick Sargent

The last 17 years of Jacob’s life (he died at the age of 147) were spent in Egypt. This might help explain the Egyptian statue.

Esau, called “Edom” because this name is popularly explained as a form of the Hebrew word for “red.” Perhaps the symbolism for the red herring.

Jacob’s youngest son was named Benjamin.

  17. Scott (not that one)

Rousseau thought her friends had become possessed by smokie. Maybe that is why it’ll capture some people while killing others. If smokie sees the person as valuable it catures them, and then releases. Is it possible that one or two characters have been possessed by smokie and no one has realized it yet?

I wonder if smokie actually kills the person can it still impersonate them or does someone/something else have to kill them. Cuz why not just kill Locke or Ben and impersonate them.

  18. Dick Sargent

Somehow Walt keeps popping up on the island and he isn’t dead. There seems to be spirits on the island. There seems to be people being impersonated by Smokey. It keeps it all nice and confusing. Is Christian himself as a spirit or is he an illusion of Smokey? Is Claire alive or a spirit or an illusion of Smokey? Is Locke dead or alive a spirit or Smokey in disguise?

    LOST?

  19. Totallylost

Speaking of Walt, he has appeared 2 times when we know he was not dead. The first to Shannon and Sayid right before Anna-Lucia blew shannon away. Second, just after Ben shot John and he fell the in the Dharma grave, Walt told John to get up because he had work to do. So, if, as the general consensus seems to be that Moses/MIB/Esau can inhabit the dead, who inhabited walt?? Well, what if it was jacob who can inhabit or impersonate the living, while MIB can only inhabit the dead? Any thoughts??

JOnathan: re psot 210- I feel your pain!! Wolowitz– same thing re Jin!!!!

Moohaha- Great catch on questioning why smokey grabbed Montrand, the pilot and Danielle’s other crew member. Come to think of it, the pilot got it just as bad, if not worse, than Echo!!!

Is anyone with me on MIB/Moses/Esau being Magnus Hanso, or am I to stand alone on that one. Moohaha??????

  20. Lilymami

The statue is Egyptian goddess Taweret. Check out ABC recap.
    http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=recap#t=162212&d=201648

  21. Gavin

hi everyone.. 2 pts.. First the statue is not sobek, its taweret, confirmed on ABC’s site, though taweret is closely linked to sobek. Second, i dont know who said it..about Richard burying dead bodies so that esau cant use them. I dont agree. Locke’s body was never buried..How did he use that??
Funny side of it,have u guys realized that a certain character named locke has been on a world tour in 1/2 coffins for almost 2 seasons? :p
the broken statue? definitely hugo fell on it!

  22. Karen

re post 218 – im sorry but walt hasn’t popped in the island for a while now! where do you get that? i agree on season 2 but then that stopped.

guys, where do you get the name Esau? maybe i missed it but did jacob called him this way? or are we assuming he’s called this way?

  23. Gavin

Karen – its a hypothesis! in the bible, jacob’s elder brother was esau, the latter planned to kill him.
also, walt appeared to john, when john was shot and was trying to kill himself. Walt told him he had work to do

  24. Dick Sargent

In the Bible Esau is Jacob’s brother. Esau LOST his firstborn birthright to Jacob because Jacob tricked his father and Esau vowed to kill Jacob (hence the you know how much I want to kill you quote). Jacob went into hiding for 20 years and upon his return Esau was marching on Jacob with 400 men to kill him.

Jacob wrestled with God and was forgiven because he proved his faith in God and was repentent for his sins (hence the black smoke monster judging people – killing those not repentent (Ecko) and allowing those to live who were truly repentent for their sins (Ben). Esau was forbidden to kill Jacob by God. Since Esau could not kill Jacob, he needed someone else to kill him, hence the loophole of needing someone else to kill Jacob.

Also, in reference to your post about Walt, you do agree that Walt has been on the island since shipping off on the boat. Walt is not dead, hence not everyone who has mysteriously shown up again on the island is dead. Walt is alive. The theory that only dead people are being impersonated by Smokey or that the people are spirits of the dead is false.

  25. jason

Gavin….very funny comment about statue and Hurley…hehehe

Adam….time loop…I agree. During this episode Sayid and Jack were having a conversation about Faraday’s comment about being inline with time. I personally keep going back to the “Surge” and Richard and Ben being extremely aware of time. Maybe this also relates to the time loop.?

  26. Ben

    A few thoughts I have:

    1. I found it interesting that Richard said “Jacob did this to me” when talking about why he doesn’t age. He didn’t say it was a gift. It was done to him. Btw, I love that Richard doesn’t have a clue whats going on- and neither does Ben. Nice juxtaposition

    2. The people who had Locke’s body said they were the “good guys”. Maybe they were from the Black Rock, recruited by Jacob and they had the same thing “done to them” like Richard. They all know the answer to “what lies in the shadow of the statue”, but have never met. All recruited by Jacob.

    3. Jacob said that “it only ends once. All the rest is progress.” Is Jacob trying to create that ending? Is it a good ending? one that is necessary for some other beginning?

    4. New manipulative Locke has got to be the smoke monster. This must be what happened with the Russian eye-patch dude who killed Charlie. That guy died so many times and came back. I had always wondered what his deal was.

    5. I think I may have to go back and watch every season again on DVD. Whatever happens to close it out next year has a lot of explaining to do. I guess half the fun is wondering what comes next which is why we all love this show.

  27. Richard7769

    Has someone lost their mind!!!!!

If you look at the pictures of Taweret she is a hippopotamus and she has saggy boobs! I don’t remember the statue on the island having those.

Can someone help me on this?

  28. Richard7769

here is the link with pictures sorry for the second post

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taweret

  29. adam

i love what al trautwig said……thought he was right on.

for those out of country al trautwig was/is an american sportscaster. the link is in above post. i agree with almost everything.

i dont think the bomb went off.
i think they will meet back in time to repeat things but they will have their memories and will change some events and end up staying on the island.
    good stuff

  30. Gavin

Richard7769 – “If you look at the pictures of Taweret she is a hippopotamus and she has saggy boobs!” I dont remember showing us the front view of the statue.

  31. jonathan

Hey guys, i was trying to figure it out:

what exactly is Jacob’s list? Who is on it?

I dont think we’ve had an answer so far.

This last episode may elude us to think that the people Jacob visited were on his list.

But i remember Mikhail once said to Kate, Sayid and Locke that they were not on the list, and some other time another guy told Jack he wasnt also. Mikhail also said he was brought to the island by a ”magnificent man”, and seemed to know a lot about the losties.

So who is on the list? Does it matter at all? Any ideas?

  32. Richard7769

Gavin- that’s what I said the pictures has saggy ones but in the glimpse we had it didn’t also it was holding the symbols for man and woman Taweret does not.

  34. lost ya

    hello guys,

About this mysterious man from the beginning, i call him mr.x for once, so his masterplan worked, and jacob knew that it will happen somehow, that´s why he was visiting Ilana in the hospital, she obviously knew him already and jacob asked for a favour, so i think he also mentioned to have a look on locke, that´s maybe why Ilana didn´t said something to the “alive Locke”, i mean she probably didn´t know what´s exactly going on but she knew what to do, to bring dead Locke to Jacob, but ilana and the crew came to late, the false locke and ben were already inside and killed him! Now i´m really excited how that will go on, the false locke will face ilana & co and when they will see dead jacob what will happen next? I´m assuming mr.x is the black smoke so he probably will change his look to escape…?? no idea!!! Maybe he can be killed too by the hand of a human?

Jacob brings people to the island and then both jacob and mr.x are trying somehow to manipulate them either to built up a peacefull civilization or to destroy the island, jacob believes in the good thing of the humans and mr.x believes in the bad thing of the humans. It seemed that jacob tried this for a very long time but never succeeded like mr.x too! Sounds like an old game….

  35. jonathan

    - I believe the Esau x Jacob theorie fits just fine.

    – Why the hell the 06 had to come back anyway?
Just to bring Locke´s body to Esau?
Ms. Hawking also told them to go back…
    Please someone clarify this.

    – About lame motivations again, Kate said she was back to the island just to find Claire. Well, she did zero actions in that way!!!

  36. Ian

I would guess that the statue was destroyed long before the “incident” because back when Locke turned the wheel and stopped the time shift, we saw the full statue in the background, there was then a final timeshift which stranded Juliette, Sawyer, Daniel, Miles and jin in 1974. They had all been looking at the statue when the last jump happened and it wasnt there when they stopped timejumping, so presumably it was destroyed some time prior to 1974.

  37. jonathan

    - To reinforce the JACOB X ESAU theorie.

In the Bible, Esau sold Jacob his first-born birthright for some stew Jacob was making.

Thats why in that scene they showed Jacob cooking that fish, and the other guy ironically said, ”I just ate”. They were refering to that biblical story, cause the last time he was fed by jacob he lost really precious in those ancient days, by selling his right to be the oldest twin.

Sawyer once was reading a book called ”the bad twin”.

    – Someone asked why smokie killed the pilot in the first episode?

I think he tought the pilot was Lapidus, cause he was the one to be there, and Lapidus seems important to Jacob, even a candidate for something important.

  38. Dick Sargent

Just a note on the Jacob and Ilanna meeting, in this scene Jacob was wearing black and wore black gloves. This may have actually been Smokey/Esau/MIB.

  39. Jones

Regarding if Locke’s father was real when Sawyer killed him at the black rock, I think it was really him. This was his story, from lostpedia
“he was driving down I-10 through Tallahassee when someone slammed into the back of his car, sending him through the divider at 70 miles per hour. He remembers being put in an ambulance, where one of the paramedics smiled at him, receiving some kind of injection, and then waking up gagged and tied to a chair on The Island.(“The Brig”)”

About Smokie killing some presumably without a judgement, I would say it may have something to do with the how close they are to whatever he is guarding. They were to close so they never got a chance.

  40. Karen

Hey Jonathan, good deduction there on the pilot! I actually watched the pilot last night and wondered why the pilot was eaten by the monster.

my question is how Jacob knew about ilana, why did he recruited? how did he manage to get out of the island? i guess he must have some sort of power, therefore i dont buy him dying! he must be like wladimir (was that his name? the russian guy with the eye patch) who was difficult to kill.

Also, i dont know if there is a connection but ilana and wladimir are russian. maybe some parenting link?

  41. jason

HEY ALL….I am just gong to through this out there to see what anyone may think. Now if it has been mentioned I apologize….

What if Jacob is Ben??? There have been some theories that Ben may have been working with Jacob, and of course Ben…always being ahead. What if when they(Kate and Sawyer) when they took young Ben to the “Hostiles”..Jacob then somehow became incarnated hiself to be Ben…and this is Jacob’s way of staying a step ahead of MIB?

  42. jason

Jonathan!!! great call on the Pilot!!!

  43. Andy

    Dick Sargeant,

You may be on to something. It ties in with something I was pondering. Illana headed straight for the cabin and seemed concerned that the ring of ash had been broken. We think there is a better than fair chance it was Esau (not Jacob) living in the cabin – so was Illana actually going there to take something to Esau (not Jacob) either knowingly or having been tricked by Esau having posed as Jacob at the hospital.

I don’t think it is as simple as just ‘good’ against ‘evil’ with Esau and Jacob. To me it doesn’t feel like either one of them is all good or all bad. I am reminded slightly of a book called ‘ghost story’ by Peter Straub where the ‘evil’ character was essentially immortal. She spent generations shaping and intertwining the lives of the mere mortals she had selected to be part of the game. She did so because she had contempt for the lesser creatures and was bored. It feels a bit like that with Jacob and Esau…..they may be immortal, or Gods, or something similar, and they spend their entire lives playing out their schemes to thwart each other over decades and centuries, twisting the lives of those around them to achieve their ends.

The motivation certainly seems more about the two twins striving for seniority / superiority than it does about good vs evil.

Two other questions if anyone can answer them for me please.
    1) When the US Army team with Jughead got wiped out, why have the US authorities not come looking for the island with all the resources at their disposal.
    2) What has become of all the off-island Dharma folk at ann arbor etc?

  44. Moohaha

    TL –
Re; post 119, I would like to be on the same page with you about the Magnus Hanso theory. But I would like to look into a little bit more about what we know about the Hanso foundation. I think it would be really smart on the shows behalf if this was indeed the case, because it would help bring the whole Hanso foundation aspect of the story full circle. We have never really gotten anything more on them since season 2. (Except for the rumor/speculation that the man in the hospital bed next to Michael in “Meet Kevin Johnson” was Alvar Hanso)

On the other hand, I think the shows writers have moved completely away from the Hanso aspect of the story and season 6 will focus on this new Jacob-vs-Esau, good vs evil story. I can say that I am with you 50% for now.

  45. Moohaha

    Jonathan,

yeah dude, Ive been saying that since Kates last episode. If she went back to find Claire, get off your ass and go look for her. She was all concerned about baby Ben, well fuck him!! Where the fuck is Claire?

She needs to get her priorities straight!!!

  46. Dick Sargent

“1) When the US Army team with Jughead got wiped out, why have the US authorities not come looking for the island with all the resources at their disposal.”

This was a private expedition of mercenaries funded by Widmore. This was not a US military operation.

  47. Andy

Are you getting your wires crossed with the Keemey team of mercenaries who came to get Ben? If so, you are right about them being backed by Widmore.

I’m talking about the soldiers that were there to test detonate a hydrogen bomb. This was back in 1954, when Widmore was a young man and was, in fact, already one of the ‘others’ on the island…..along with a young Ellie.

  48. jonathan

    - Andy,
1)It was the U.S army ,Sargent. Widmore sent the freighter, in 2004.

i’ve read we’ll be seeing a lot about dharma outside the island next season.

    – The first one who came up with the idea to move the island was Christian, right?
He told it to Locke in the cabin, and Locke shared it with Ben and Hurley who were waiting outside.
Presuming Christian was ”Esau”, it was his idea to move the island in first place. But why indeed?

  49. Dick Sargent

I don’t remember any US Military being involved in the show. I have watched every episode live and then again on DVD. Just the guy pressing the button, but I don’t remember him being in contact with the outside world or ever corresponding with the US Military.

  50. Dick Sargent

I also don’t know if they are trying to incorporate Jacob’s Ladder into the show with the statue being some kind of gateway to heaven. With they are coming being the angels from heaven or souls attempting to ascend the stairway to heaven.

Also, the candidates being some kind of stand in for Jacob or Esau at the time of the reckoning.

I am not very biblically oriented, but the show definitely seems to be going in that direction. I am guessing anyway.

  51. acer_7

    Hey,

There is a nice idea that I read in one of the websites. Did anyone notice that Jacob did the opposite to the personalities of the losties (when they were young) ?
For example, Kate: He told her not to steal again.
Sawyer: sawyer was writing the letter when his pen ran out of ink. His relative wouldn’t have seen the letter if it weren’t for Jacob who gave him a pen to finish the letter.

Would it that be a trial from Jacob to change their past ? What if this appeared to be something like the flashforward shock we had at the end of season 3 ?

    AGAIN I am LOST :)

  52. Andy

    Sarge,
You maybe need to watch the Jughead episode from this season again I think.

I guess we are left to assume that the island has been moved before (how many times?) and that would account for why the US Army could not find their lost team, and a hydrogen bomb. I can’t imagine they would not have even tried looking though. But if we assume someone turned the wheel after 1954 to prevent discovery by the US Army, who turned it? I first thought maybe Eloise – that would explain why she is no longer on the island in 2007, and seems to have no interest in going back herself despite knowing how to. The problem with that theory is it means she did not turn the wheel until after 1977 – because we know she was still on the island then.

WOW, the more you think about this stuff the less sense it makes……!

  53. Dick Sargent

Thanks Andy, will do. Will be watching the entire season again when the DVD comes out as I get LOST as an annual Christmas gift. :)

  54. jonathan

I dont think we mentioned this here.

The reason for the losties from ajira flight to end up in different times was just because all the 06 were not together in that plane, like Eloise had demanded.
She said to Ben that if they were not, ”then god help us all”.
That was it wasnt? Thats what the producers said in ”a journey in time”. I expected a better twist about it.Very disapointing.

I still dont get it why did they have to go back.”Esau” through Richard and Christian had Locke believe that. And Ms. Hawking also said that, but why?

  55. Wolowitz

As regards to who Ilana and her gang are. I was thinking that they could be similar to the ‘cult’ that protects the secret of the Holy Grail in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

They give their life to protect the secrets of Jacob and the island, thus they came to the island because of the danger they knew Jacob was in. This would explain how they know so much about the island and can walk straight to Jacob’s cabin (although he may have never even been in the cabin as it turns out now) and then on the statue, but they have spent their entire life on ‘mainland’ keeping the secrets of the island thus why they knew of Richard but not actually in person as they had never met and therefore called him Ricardus.

  56. jonathan

    Last post of the day.

Now that we are getting biblical, i think that the long conversation between Locke and Eko in the swan in season 2, when Eko gives him the Book of Laws, will be important at some point. It seemed quite nonsense at the time.
This book was among the objects that Richard showed young Locke, and he didnt choose it, what disapointed Richard.

  57. Scott (not that one)

The Jughead-US Military: I took these exerts from another site “…Daniel notices that one of his captors is wearing bandages that he believes cover burns from radiation exposure. Miles begins to behave erratically and tells Daniel that they are walking over top of a fresh grave that is less than a month old. He says that the grave contains the bodies of four U.S. soldiers, three of whom were shot and a fourth who died from radiation exposure…. The Others believe them to be members of the United States military who have come for “the bomb”….”

After reading this I had to wonder if Richard killed the US soldiers because they were going to detonate the bomb, then why let Jack and co. blow up the bomb later?

    jonathan,
I 100% agree with you on post 254, having the reason for them being in different time periods as a random thing that happened because they were not able to recreate the original crash well enough, well that is disappointing as you said.
I also have yet to understand why anyone had to come back. Is the answer that MIB needed Ben and Locke to come back to be able to kill Jacob and the only way for that to happen was for them to recreate the 815 crash as well as possible. (i.e. Ben needed to kill Locke and see him apparently living again back on the island so that he had to follow him, making it necessary to leave and the reason they all had to come back as stated above)

One other thing I have been wondering and I don’t think they have answered it in the show yet but why with a mother named Hawkings and a father named Widmore, is Daniels last name Faraday. Probably very simple answer and nothing to it but I was wondering can anyone recall a reason for this?

  60. lost ya

I have a question: Who believes Locke is dead and out from Lost!!?? Wow, if this is right that Locke was the one main person which was mentioned by the writters to be killed out of the show then they really got me, i´ve never had expected that! I´m really disappointed, Locke was so important in this season and now he´s gone, really sad! But everything other would be nonsense, because Dead is Dead!! It´s like Jacob had cut his thread of life through as we saw it at the beginning of the season final, in the statue, actually he was spinning this big picture of the people under the sun (maybe Sun god “RA”?) on it!

So what do you guys think…??

  61. lost ya

Jones….i was also wondering why the hell is Daniels second name Faraday but his mothers is Hawking and his fathers Widmore, that´s totally bullshit and makes no sense!!!! Maybe daniel was stolen as a child, how the others did it many times!? I´m assuming the problems with giving birth to a child becomes after the incident or the h-bomb which probably detonated.

You know what i´m thinking….the h-bomb didn´t detonated when juliet hit it because after the white light came the finally was already over, and how i know the show when there is such an open end, the beginning of the new season will continue “easily”…like the bomb didn´t detonated how we are all assuming and led to believe and everything will start from a totally other point of view!

    …we´ll see…in eight f**king months..

  62. jonathan

    Jones and Lost ya:

you are right, why doesnt he have one of their last names?

And more, how in the world he has an american accent? His mother is british, his father too and he grew up in England.

I am sure Locke as we know him is dead, but he will still be on the show as Esau or god knows what. Juliet is also confirmed for next season.

About the circle of ashes, i guess that the one who broke it was Locke. In that scene were he goes with Ben to the cabin, after things start moving, he runs outside really scared, and he runs exactly in the direction of where the circle is broken, i rewatched it.Check it out.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_S-22BVLy0

  63. lost ya

    Last one..

Where the hell is Desmond?? I´m really missing him and i hope he´ll come back at the beginning of the new season!!!!

I just remembered when the season final ends the LOST logo is somehow different, isn´t it? Has that a meaning or is it just nonsense?

If the bomb really detonated then it has to be how faraday said, a new created future. They never crashed on the island, they made it to L.A.! Would be cool of course but Jacob touched them, what means destiny will bring them together or at least everyone somehow separated back to the island!?

My last question is: Does somebody know what the sixth season is about? I forgot what the producers said once…..the fifth season was why they had to go back to the island (“answer” is nonsense – the writters screwed this part totally up!!) but i forgot what´s about the last season…was it why they have to leave again…?? no idea??

  64. lost ya

jonathan….circle of ash, very good observed, i totally forgot how locke screwed this up!

  65. adam

maybe he meant to screw it up???

The more and more I think about it I would say that the MIB is Esau….Seems to make sense.

He was probably the other person living in the cabin like I think someone said before. Maybe Jacob has been hiding in the temple. If they thought he was going to be in the cabin and he ends up in that Statue then maybe he was hiding……or waiting.

If the smoke monster represents Esau then maybe the temple is his hideout??

Another thought I had was when they kept asking what lies in the shadow of the statue. Maybe knowing this code isnt a good thing but rather a bad thing. What I mean is maybe it is not a call or code for the good guys but rather the bad guys.

Could Richard be a candidate? They asked frank and he claimed to not know the answer. Maybe if you know the answer you are a candidate??

    random thoughts…

  66. adam

Second paragraph— i meant jacob hiding in the statue not the temple…

  67. Wolowitz

Jonathan as for the name I have no idea why he has a different name. Perhaps to keep his identity hidden some some people, unlikely but you never know. More likely is that the writers put in different names so that we didn’t know who Faraday’s mum was going to be, as if he was called Hawking there wouldn’t be much suspense as people would put 2 & 2 together pretty quickly.

As for his accent we know that he grew up off the island, and in what look like and American house rather than an English house, I’m going on the doors as English houses don’t have doors like the ones used in the house he was playing the piano in. He later went to university in England but you don’t do that until your 18, even if he went a few years early his American accent would have had time to stick with him. I know people who move to England when they were 13 and still a a strong foreign accent.

  68. Dick Sargent

How do you add a link to the forum? Without knowing how, here is a URL that makes me think that somehow Jacob’s Ladder to heaven will come into play. Locke staring up an escalator as symbol for Jacob’s ladder to heaven and Locke being crippled in the wheel chair.

    http://gallery.lost-media.com/albums/ep-caps/season3/3×03-instructions/1/normal_instructions-cap-208.jpg

After wrestling with the angel, Jacob is struck on the hip and crippled for the rest of his life. Symbolic of Locke being in the wheel chair. I have also been looking for a limp from Jacob as proof. On the beach scene he is sitting in a chair. He is seen sitting spindling the tapestry. He is sitting behind the pillar in the tomb. Barely moves in the dark scene where he is stabbed by Locke. Not sure, could have moved with a limp. Too dark to tell in that scene.

“Then someone wrestled with him until daybreak who, seeing
that he could not master Jacob, struck him on the hip
socket, and Jacob’s hip was dislocated as he wrestled with
    him.”

No matter what happens in Lost, theorizing here is more fun and educational than what actually happens on the show. Keep the great theories coming guys and gals. I haven’t gone through the Bible in 30 years, but now I am searching Bible verses to try and figure out what is happening in Lost.

  69. Dick Sargent

*Stabbed by Ben* The link was easy, you don’t have to do any funky coding, just paste the link. :)

  70. Dick Sargent

Does anyone think that the flight numbers for Oceanic Flight 815 and Ajira Flight 316 are Bible verses?

316 would be obvious for John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Richard has everlasting life, Jacob, “Esau”.

I have been trying to find an 8:15 Bible verse that would make sense, but nothing yet. It would be just like Lost to give you 815 first to make you go nutty over it, then toss you a softball with 316 second.

  71. jason

Maybe it wasn’t Jacob actually visiting everyone when they were young….Maybe it was actually MIB

  72. jason

also does anyone have any info on the book “Jacob” was reading before Locke fell?

  73. Jones

the book “Everything That Rises Must Converge” by Flannery O’Connor. It’s a collection of short stories.
Here is the link to it on Lostpedia
    http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Everything_That_Rises_Must_Converge
Also have a look at post 44 if you are interested, I think the book and the taperestry Jacob is making at the first of the episode are related.

  74. Jones

    sorry,
    taperestry = tapestry

  75. Dick Sargent

    Jason,

I thought the same thing, maybe it was MIB visiting everyone. Now I think it was Jacob visiting the survivors because he wore white and it was MIB visiting Ilanna because in this scene Jacob was wearing black and had black gloves.

  76. adam

    dick sarg -

so that would make llana bad then right? so would that also make richard bad you think? i say that only because he knew the answer to her code. question is now….who made up this code? whidmore? esau?

  77. Dick Sargent

I don’t know who Ilana is working for, but she surely knows her way around the island somehow. Going right to the cabin then directly to the statue. Why was she on the plane handcuffed to Sayid.

I don’t know if Ilana knows who she is working for either. Widmore? MIB? Jacob? If MIB visited her then why would he need to be disguised as Jacob? Who was supposed to be in the cabin? Did the ash keep someone in or someone out of the cabin. Maybe the ash kept the others or the smoke monster out of the cabin. Maybe the ash kept MIB in the cabin.

So many questions, such little given to us to work with.

  78. jonathan

Ilana worked for Jacob, so Widmore is in the opposite side. They said that to Miles when dragged him to the van.

  79. Dick Sargent

To my knowledge they just said they were the good guys. They may think they were working for Jacob, but I still question that was Jacob wearing black who visited Ilana.

  80. jonathan

Dick, why exactly would Esau need Ilana for?

  81. Dick Sargent

Jonathan, why exactly would Jacob need Ilana for?

  82. Totallylost

Does anyone think that when kate Julietee about the bomb and Jack’s plan, the real reason why she wanted to get off the sub was that she somehow knew that was her fate??

Remember in her season 2 (or maybe 3) flashbacks she was talking to a lady at Dharma ville and had an envelope. She told this lady that she could never tell Ben what was in it. Well, what if that somehow had info that Julietee got in the present that had to do with what happened in the past. I don’t know what I am trying to say, but it seems to me that Sawyer looking at Kate with google-eyes was not enough of a motivation to want to get off the sub and to help Jack.

  83. Karen

I guess Esau (incarnated as Christian) told Locke to move the island because there was Keamy and company trying to get there and there would have been harm done. so it was the only way to save it, which goes well with what we saw at the beginning Esau being against poeple coming to the island cos it meant distruction, while talking to Jacob

  84. Karen

i dont think Esau is working with ilana guys, its jacob! ok Esau might be able to get the form of another person or thing (smoke) but it would have been too confusing (and even cheater) to impersonate Jacob! i say Jacob recruited Ilana and even more, I would say that Ilana lived in the island previously and she was somehow associated with Jacob. MAybe she doesnt age either and has some powers too.

    Maybe Ilana is JAcob’s sister!

  85. Scoppie

First off – how long are we all going to keep posting stuff on this page? Can we have a new one where we can chat about what we think might happen in series 6…?

    Now, theories…

I’ve been watching Season 3 again (my brother’s getting back into Lost after bailing out at the end of Season 2 saying it was too confusing – HA! Just wait…) and one episode in particular really struck me – The Man Behind The Curtain.

We all know two Ben Linuses – the quiet child who hates his dad and longs for his dead mother, and the ruthless, lying, mass-murdering master-manipulator who’s been running the island for twenty years. What we still don’t know is – how did the boy become the man?

Whatever the effects of the H-Bomb, I think a vital part of series 6 will show what happened to Ben in the early eighties.

Think of how much has been left out – what happened to Ellie Hawking, how did Charles Widmore take over as leader, how did Ben trick Widmore into turning the donkey wheel (if that is indeed what happened), how Ben became leader (if indeed he ever really did) and perhaps most importantly of all – what happened to Annie, the girl he met when he first arrived on the island and gave him a wooden statuette which he still keeps and obviously means a lot to him.

And how will Ben’s relationship with Horace play out? When he eventually kills him in the purge, Ben finds him sprawled on a bench in Dharmaville and quickly closes his eyes – he clearly respected and was close to him, closer than to Roger Linus anyway.

Whatever – Ben’s past is important, and nowhere was this better illustrated than Jacob’s cold reply to him just before he stabbed him – “What ABOUT you?” I think Jacob hates Ben, or is disappointed by him at the very least. The fact that Ben never met Jacob and perhaps has been controlled by Esau all along, perhaps since the first time he followed his dead mum into the forest, suggests that maybe he was never meant to be leader and that the Others have been reluctantly following him for years waiting for someone to lead them to a brighter future…

Kinda like what happened with George W Bush and America. Hey, maybe that’s what Lost is really all about…

    • Karen

hey Scott, i agree with him. Can you create a new page for new comments? this one is getting a bit overloaded
      thanks !

  86. jonathan

Dick, perhaps she had to warn him of a possible threat by Esau, and also warn Richard about it.She may well have lived on the island and be a kind of protector of it in the outside world.

Now tell some reason why would Esau disguise as Jacob.
I think its very imaginative, but i cant see why.

  87. jonathan

Toatallylost, that envelope had Ben’s exam showing he had a tumor.

  88. adam

I like the idea of Llana being an outside protector. Clearly there are others off the island like Whidmore and Ellie. The Dharma had a station off the island, why not have “others” off the island. I do think that Jacob was Jacob in that scene with Llana…..but I guess you never know.

  89. jonathan

We dont have any reason to believe Esau and Jacob can take each others forms.
We dont even know if Jacob can take another person’s form.
All we know is that Esau can take dead bodies forms.

  90. jason

    jonathan….

I started watching season 2 again…I wonder is the horse(stallion) Kate saw was him too? orrrrrrrrrrr

the HURLEY BIRD!!!! LOL.(joke on the Hurley bird)

    • Karen

hey Jason, i was thinking the same thing. if you think about it, some weird appearances took place from time to time (i.e. the horse, Hopper or Scout (i forgot the name of Goodwin’s wife, but her), Hurley’s crazy friend in a rope and christian, etc…). This might very well have been Esau in disguise, since he could take any form he wants. now this would make him eligible to take Jacob’s form as well, but i think that the writers would not have done that since it would turn out to be confusing.

      • Karen

and also, what supports this theory is that for example for the horse, not only Kate saw it but Sawyer too and for Goodwin’s wife, Jack and Juliette saw her. so it could totally be Esau

  91. jonathan

    Jason:

remember that the hostiles had horses, so could be a descendant…if Esau is the smoke monster, and we think smokie can read minds, he could have read Kate´s mind and become the horse..

Maybe Jacob didnt let Ben see him and know more about him cause he didnt want Esau to find out anything, as he could possibly read Ben’s mind.

Dick Sargent( thats a great name):

one possibility i can think of Jacob being Esau in that meeting with Ilana is if it was a flashforward and not a flashback, and assuming Jacob was dead…

  92. adam

good point jonathan! that could def been a flash forward of Llana getting f-ed up at some point in season 6 and Esau or Jacob coming to ask her a favor….just another option.

Does anyone have a theory of how Dez gets back to the island? He has got to come back!

This whole thing that Esau can take the forms of dead people is weak. I don’t like that whole thing…little weak for me.

  93. adam

    Just had a thought….

Hurley can see dead people. Maybe he will be able to see Esau when he takes over a body. This will be a way that they can tell that he is an imposter. This could be his significance in the show…as it is now he seems to have a undefined role. Jacob did say he was special in the cab.

  94. Gillyjay

Good thoughts Adam. I wonder if the real, but dead, Locke, will appear to Hurley and tell him what has happened?

  95. Dick Sargent

LOL Jason. Dick Sargent is a play on my real name and is of course the star of Bewitched.

My theory is that Ilana got messed up trapping Esau/MIB/Smokey in the cabin and knows he can take the forms of others. I can already foresee a very intense scene where Ilana has Jacob and evil Jacob look-a-like standing in front of her at the cabin. She has to choose between which one to trap in the cabin.

After talking to Locke, she later finds dead Locke in the casket and believes Smokey escaped from the cabin since she is aware that he takes the form of others. She then goes to the cabin to confirm her suspicions and does find that the ash has been broken and Smokey has escaped. Smokey then leaves her the message to go to the statue.

We are all under the impression that Smokey is Esau, however, there may Jacob, Esau/MIB, and Smokey.

Why would Ilana come back to the island? It could be as simple as Sayid needed to come back to the island. He refused. Jacob / Jacob Evil Twin needed help to get him back to the island. Ilana was that pawn.

Also, in the Bible Jacob and Esau were twins. Who knows what they could take that little piece of history.

  96. Dick Sargent

Also, in the Bible Jacob and Esau were twins. Who knows WHERE they could take that little piece of history.

  97. Dick Sargent

With regards to the upcoming season, it could be a flash forward season? They need to get Aaron involved I would assume and the only way to do that would be a flash forward?

    • Karen

since there are so many biblical highlights, i guess that Aaron will have a role to play with Esau and Jacob. what is the link between those 3. i am sure there is one

I like the look and really like that you can reply specifically to comments.
As some others mentioned I do miss the individual post numbers which would make it easier to find where I left off last time but I am not sure how that would work when you are able to post inside posts.
One suggestion would be to add “agree” or “disagree” buttons.
Thanks for the site and great job.

    • adam

i think its cool. looks much nicer for sure

    • Scott

I’ll work on getting the comment post numbers added back in later today.

    • Scott (not that one)

Regarding the new setup and a few suggestions/comments.

I’m posting this as a reply and as a new thread so its not missed.

      I like the disagree/agree idea.

I noticed a ‘new comment link’ at the bottom of the page i couldn’t figure out what it was doing when i clicked it.

Ability to filter the threads by:
      1) numerically by the order they were created (top down 1,2,3,4 or reverse 4,3,2,1. So the numbers would have to come back. Threads still have numbers and the replies are given a. b. c. etc (continue to indent replies). This will help differentiate between the original thread and replies.

      2) Replied to threads refresh to top of page or Replied to threads refresh to bottom of page. Original threads would not need to be numbered under this filter although I would keep the numbers to help people track the thread, replies would still get the alpha characters. This way its easy to see when a thread gets a new reply. This would also keep the ‘hot’ topics at the top… or bottom of the page for retrieval.

    • Totallylost

Scott, it looks great but I miss the numbers which made it easier to reply to specific posts which we tend to do a lot.

  99. Totallylost

Jonathan re your post on the envelope Juliette had. I don’t think they were X-rays because it was a regular 8×11 envelope. When Jack saw Ben’s x-rays in the hydra they were definatley larger, as you would expect with spinal x-rays.

So, it makes me think that there was something else in the envelope. Perhpas something she found (Like Sun found the losties photo), made her see that she could be a hero once Kate told her of Jack’s plan. I guess I am fishing for a valid reason as to why she decided to help Kate other than the fact that people she loves always leave her.

    • jonathan

      Lostpedia:

Juliet was about to show Amelia Ben’s X-rays, which were brought to her the day before by Karl, and with which she confronted Ben regarding his claim to have her sister’s cancer cured. (“One of Us”). -mobisode The envelope.

The X-rays were developed by Karl and delivered to Juliet’s house in the flashback for “One of Us”. She stored them in a manila envelope, later confronting Ben with them, and tried to reveal them to Amelia just before the book club meeting on the day of the crash, as seen in mobisode”The Envelope”.

According to the audio commentary for “A Tale of Two Cities” on the Season 3 DVD set, Elizabeth Mitchell has shot a scene in which she is looking at the X-rays in her house. This bit was supposed to be in the ‘walking through Juliet’s house’ sequence at the episode’s start, before the book club meeting, but it was cut in post-production. This would have introduced the X-ray three episodes earlier, but the audience would have had no information about it yet. It appears that this scene has been used for mobisode “The Envelope”.

  100. jonathan

Scott, it looks really great. Good work.
I just missed the sequential numbers on the posts, so it took me more time to find the last one i’ve read.
