Because its Valentines Day and I love you, here are 2 sneak peeks into Lost episode 5.06 entitled 316. As pointed out in the comments, the title 316 may refer to John 3:16 in the Bible. If so, you can expect this episode to be about Jeremy Bentham aka John Locke and the sacrifice
In this clip, Jack visits a visibly upset Kate who apparently has just lost Aaron. She promises to go back to the island with Jack as long as he never asks what happened to Aaron again.
In this clip, we are back at the church, which happens to in fact be an off island Dharma station. Quite possibly the first Dharma station. This one is called the Lamp Post and is used to find the island. If Widmore is so well connected to Elloise Hawking, how come he doesn’t know about this place?

C.P.L. You are a stud!!! (i hope you are a guy!!) I totally forgot what Locke said in the well. I must be getting senile!!! I guess then that he only saw Jack, Walt (I’d like to know why Walt), and probably Kate, while Ben took care of Sayid, Hurley and Sun.
Jason- you are right that Kate and Jack had the conversation about going back, and Kate popped him in his face. Come to think of it, Kate did not seem all that surprised about Jack talking about going back, but was pissed that Jack bought into the bull. So, she probably was approached by Locke, or the vision/dream of claire telling her not to go back is what tipped her off.
4 more days– I am lost without Lost!!!
Wow, great episode – I really like how they’ve cut through all the crap and got the O6 back to the island already, but have STILL left a lot unexplained as to why (Aaron’s disappearance, Hurley’s conversion, Sayid’s arrest… by the way, where the heck IS Guam? Is it possible Sayid was just being deported back to Iraq and Guam was on the way? Just wondering).
All will explained in Flashback obviously, but I also felt a bit disappointed by Desmond and the response he got from Sun, Jack and Ben, it makes me feel he’s been tacked on by the writers, which might suggest he is seen as disposable… and anyway, wasn’t HE supposed to return to the island on the plane? We wasn’t one of the O6 (he disappeared from the media glare with Penny) but he still left the island with the rest of them…
Anyhoo, thought I’d stop by and post another ridiculous, out-there theory that probably won’t come to anything (guess my previous theory about Juliette dying from a time-jump nosebleed didn’t amount to much!)…
Sawyer is Jack’s Grandfather.
I know, I know, it’s probably me just clutching at straws, but think about it – why hasn’t this character been seen or heard from all this time (especially when you consider the amount of Jack flash-back episodes there have been)? I think the grandfather has been introduced now because of the new time-travel direction, and I think he is someone who has come from the island. The way it seems to be set up is that he is somebody the audience already knows, but he’s been sent back in time and has since fathered Christian Shepherd.
So why do I think it’s Sawyer? Well, other than to f*** with your heads (ha ha!) there are one or two hints (that could of course just be red herrings thrown out by the writers to make idiots like me think the Grandfather is Sawyer). Firstly, he keeps escaping from his old-folks’ home to see where the wind takes him – very Sawyer-like behaviour. Secondly, he kind of looks like Sawyer might do after fifty years or so.
But thirdly and most tellingly – there’s the language he’s used. Remember how he asked Jack at the home where his new girlfriend was? “The one with all the freckles?” (and seemed almost pleased when Jack said they weren’t together anymore). And then, after he and Jack had verbally sparred, he ended with “Touche” – something Sawyer always used to say when he got cussed… mind you, come to think of it, that word gets used a hell of a lot in Lost by a lot of characters, but Sawyer tends to come out with it the most.
Anyway, what do people reckon?
guys good points. i am still quite intrigued about the abbadon role, i have had a thought maybe that Abbadon is Walt. could that be possible ??
Haha Scoppie – I think if it turns out that Sawyer is Jacks grandfather, that would just be waaaaayyyyyyy too much, i think Christian would have been involved with Sawyer more if he was his father
)
Scoppie…
Guam…is in the Pacific and if I’m not mistaken north of Hawaii… I know someone that got bit by a monkey while on vacation there… but that’s another story.
Karen-VERRRRRYYYY interesting theory on Walt. Will wait to see what develops. May not be a stretch with these writers and based on what little we know they could possibly make it happen. Though what pulls me a little away from it was the visit in the hospital by both charactors….Walt knew of the 6…… Abbadon was looking for the rest of the people… seems like somewhat of a conflict.
Hey guys….FIRST, i´m a MALE!!!!! My real name is Cris!!!..that´s for you my lost friend…Totallylost!!
Jason….yeah..you´re right about Jack % Kate´s conversation, i´m nearly 100% sure Bentham(Locke) will -have to- meet Jack (maybe Kate too)!! JACK is the Chief Character in LOST, he was and will be again the head of the show! About Jacob; we only know Jack´s father is somehow with Jacob connected and Jack WILL be earlier or later too!!
Scoppie….good point about Desmond!!! I also wondered why only the 06 have to go back, because there was Desmond too and of course Lapidus(but he´s now with them), so why only the 6 and not 8?? I have no clue, sorry!
Too funny your Theory about Ray Shephard = Sawyer, there are maybe some little hints but stay REAL, no way…never!!
By the way….Guam is not far away from Bali, where the 06 where “officially rescued”, also it´s a member of the USA!!
Karen….i thought/think the same about Abbadon = Walt…but even when we speak about Lost we have to stay real and that is impossible! Maybe he´s his grandfather or somehow related to Walt..?? You know what´s weird, Abbadon was Naomi´s empolyer so he do know Widmore, AND he gave her the photos of Charlotte, Miles who is maybe Dr. Candle´s baby and Faraday who is Hawkings son, so he should know ALL of this people! I think we will see him once as a young man on the island during his “walkabout”!?!?
Could it be that Walt can move through time….is this his special power what makes him special, like Locke´s healing “powers” or like Miles ghost whispering??
Seems that the island can refer to some people some powers!?!?
CPL – exactly, that was what i was thinking of. specially since walt had powers and miles also did. and faraday was able to travel through time and charlotte was born in the island. but i think abbadon could be walt. how come daniel was able to know charlotte when small ? he could travel through time. only problem is that daniel was never small, he could be some sort of Richard Alpert, never getting old. however, Walt was a kid and then its not possible he’s a grown man… so that’s the mystery ! we’ll see. this abbadon character has always intrigued me.
you know what i think its a pity? the writers played a lot with the numbers in the first seasons (4,8,15,16,23,42) and that was really a mistery! and now that thread has been dropped…
Karen….we could – auch auf deutsch reden aber – its an english site!!
Sweety, Faraday can not move through time, he is like the ohter losties included in the island movings!! So that means now (we saw Jin) they are in the “Dharma time” (around the 1960´s or 70´s), and this fits now perfect into the story after Charlotte died in Daniel´s hands, and NOW they are in the time where she was a young girl. So Faraday will go to find young Charlotte and tell her what she told Faraday before she died(to go and never come back, and he will convince her mother to leave and maybe we will see who is her dad!!
I thought the same that Faraday isn´t aging but now since the losties are all in the DI time this theory make no sense anymore!! we´ll see
I agree with you about Abbadon, he intrigued me always too!!
Last thing…about the numbers….you know the numbers make sense now because……they are for finding the island, how we saw at the “lamp post”, you saw that board with the automatic changing numbers…tktktktk….so they found the island, and the man who found out the correct numbers is….this “time man” mentioned by Hawking, we don´t know at the moment who he was or IS?????????
schönen tag noch
I said it before, but I believe Charlottes Dad will be Horace Goodspeed, the Dharma Member who was killed in the purge and responsible for bringing Ben and his father to the island. The time frame kinda fits too.
Moohaha– I agree with you about Charlotte’s dad being Horrace Goodspeed. Horrace has to have some other purpose than just showing John where the cabin that that he built was.
Scoppie- Wow, you are out there with that John, Jack, Grandpa theory. But, this is Lost, and you never know . . I give you an A+++ for creative thinking!!!!
C.P.L., aka Cris. I am glad you are a guy, or I would have felt even more stupid calling you a stud!!!
Karen- Way to make a possible connection between Walt and Abbadon. They are such huge mysteries, and this might be a piece of it.
I would like to see Rose and Bernard and see how they are or have been dealing with the time travel. I still think they may be Adam and Eve, but we will see.
Could it be that Michael (walt´s dad) made it off the freighter like Jin did and is alive????
Another thought. It maybe could be that Jacob is Locke or Sawyer, i mean Locke with hair and a beard would look similar to jacob we saw once in season 3 for the first time!
Sawyer would look similar to jacob when he would be an old man!
BUT…..only thoughts and speculations!
If Charles Widmore knew where Ms Hawking were(he told Desmond) and probably knew about the lamp post, how come it took him almost twenty years to find the island? I must have missed something.
When Charlotte told Jin not to let Sun come back to the island, is it because she was pregnant on the island and left, so now coming back fate will course correct by killing her?
One thing i didnt like about the episode is that anybody seemed to be surprised or happy to meet Desmond again, after 3 years…He is my favorite character.
I dont think Ben is getting back to the island.
CPL i think people see the light when the flashes occur. Remember when the didn’t enter the numbers in the hatch? All the losties saw a light. Also when locke is with richard and the others for the first flash they were covering their eyes as if they saw the light.
I think both aaron and ji yeon will be wanted by the island, ji yeon is the first child conceived on the island to be born and aaron was born on island. I don’t really have a good guess whats happened to aaron but i think either he’s on the island(or kate thinks he is) or claire visited and kate is going to the island to talk to her.
I wonder could the lawyer for ben be lying about the blood sample court order? I find it hard to believe ben could take aaron in a legal way.
I think due to the islands time loop thing that the three years off island will have been the few days/weeks that we’ve seen of the losties. I imagine the flashes left them in a dharma time and they’ve pretended to be dharma now to get by.
I think it will have been charlie or jacob who convinced hurley to go back. I think hurley believes abbadon is a baddie and wouldn’t want to talk to him.
I’m pretty sure locke did visit sun but due to the promise he made jin, he didn’t tell her jin was alive.
I think guam is in the western pacific, in micronesia?
CPL christian told michael he could go now before the explosion. I think he’s toast
Could horace goodspeed be the clever man that mrs hawking said worked out the equations to find the island? Wasn’t he a mathematician?
jonathan….Desmond is my favorite character too!!! Shame on the others that nobody was surprised seeing Des, without Jack who was the only one becoming big eyes seeing his old friend (first time they met at the jogging in the stadium)!!
Ohh…you are totally right about Widmore…Hawking..Lamp post…and not finding the island for 20 years,…maybe it was till now not possible but since Ben moved the island its possible again, or whyever!?!?
Lolo….about seeing the flashes, yes everybody saw the white light, but what i meant was when they were moving through time in another time period i.e. young Rousseau, she didn´t saw or hear anything!! So it happens only to the “sliders”, when they are in another time period!
..Very good point about Aaron and Ji Yeon. Now i remember that the others always snatched the children from the losties (season 1,2)!! WHY? Juliet was brought to the island to solve the problem with the dying mothers. What the hell is about the children and the island? I really hope in the next episode if Locke meets Walt, we´ll get some answers. Walt have to know since he was captured by the others what´s about that hole children stuff..!!
Claire and Jin (in different episodes) were both very upset about bringing their babies back to the island….very strange!!!!
And..Lolo..If Locke will really visit Sun, Why Ben had her ring? So i don´t think they will meet each other!!
About Michael…yeah..he is toasted…i think too, but its Lost and Jin we thought was dead too…but lets stay by MICHEAL IS DEAD, alright!
Last point…google after Guam in wikipedia and you´ll see!
Horace Goodspeed will be in the after next episode “LeFleur”. He is in the guest star list!
He could be Charlotte´s dad, also he could be the “time man”, and also he could be only the cool guy he was always!
maybe aaron didnt have to go back to the island because Kate is pregnant with Jacks kid….they did do the deed the day before the flight. her being pregnant would recreate claire being pregnant on the first flight.
this next episode should deliver a lot. Lockes convo’s with everyone should be interesting. i dont think he went to see kate tho. was that ever revealed?
ADAM…..DAWN, I JUST HAD THE SAME THOUGHT AND WANNA POST THE SAME YOU WROTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would think Locke had to see everyone to ask them to return and explain the losties are in trouble. I think Locke might not have told sun about jins body washing up on the beach etc, sun believes he’s dead, i think he’ll just keep quiet about jin altogether. We know ben and locke were in contact before lockes death, ben could have taken it from him or locke may have given it to him. It might have been a workaround of Lockes promise to Jin, that Ben tell sun jin is still alive after lockes death.
You know they only die when the island allows them? For michael and others when they should have died they just didn’t. What if the island has just stuck locke is some sort of almost dead state so he can get well again. If he’s up talking and not possessed by jacob then he must not be fully dead.
If the next episode is bed i’m going to be severely disappointed!
Sorry i meant bad not bed!!!
Adam i love that idea of kate being pregnant. Its a bit ridiculous that all the situations are swapping but its good! What if sun was pregnant by a new man-naughty naughty!
I don’t think its strange that people don’t want their children on the island, the others try to kill them all the time, theres a smoke monster killing them, they’ve little food or shelter and spend all their time running away and not being able to trust anyone in case they’re trying to kill them too-who would want their child living in that!!
Locke “did” talk to kate when he returned. Kate did say that when Locke explained everything to her she said that she thought he was crazy. That’s what she told Jack at the airport when they met eachother there. Anyone remember?
If Kate was pregnant would that make her KLate?
I don’t think she is pregnant…. but hey? I thought they would ditch Ben….
First timer….. be gentle with me.
Have just watched the episode again and noticed that when Ben was talking to Jack in the church about the Thomas picture ‘ We all believe in the end…’ Ben calls Jack ‘John’. I can’t believe that the writers, producers, directors, actors etc.. would have let this slip if it were an accident. It was placed there for a reason… but why? Did anyone else notice this and have any ideas / explainations?
JMK– Not bad for a nubbie!!! I went back to that scene, and it sounded like a “john” with a little “ak” from jack annexed onto it. I agree– not likley a mistake, as the Lost writers are too good for that. The confusing speech issue with Ben also happened earlier this year when Ben said to Ms. Hawking “any luck” or, as some beleived “Annie Locke”
In looking at the Leap of Faith conversation Jack had with Ms. Hawking right before this scene, it is interesing that poor Jack is being looked at by her as so important to this whole get back to the island deal, and poor bug-eyed Ben is relegated to a lesser role. Maybe bug-eyed Ben is just a desperate pawn, and will get what is coming to him later on. Or, maybe he does know everything and we are all being played again. I am wondering if Jack is needed to deal with his Dad once they get back.
I hope I am not beating a dead horse, but I have some thoughts about Daniel.
I think it is a safe assumption, based upon what Jin was wearing when he saw Hurley, kate and jack, that the last flash put them back in the 70′s or so when Dharma was on the island. The retro VW van further supports this. I think we can also assume that the rest (Saywer, Miles, Julietee, Daniel) will assimiliate themselves into the Dharma project to figure out what is going on. Well, suppose that as part of that process Daniel is in the Orchard (as we saw with Chang/Candle/Halowax or whatever his name is) trying to get to the source of time travel to get the losties back to the time of the plane crash. If so, maybe he really is a good guy and not shady as he sometimes appears now. Just a thought.
Jared,
I remember that, i dont know why there was any speculation as to whether or not Locke saw Kate, because as you stated, she said it in the season 4 premiere. Enough said!
Totallylost – at this point, I definitley agree with Bernard and Rose being Adam and Eve. They havent been around for a while, and they are not surviving on their own. They will be put to some sort of “peaceful rest” by the writers. No Smoke monster death for them.
Also, I cant remember who said it, but Kate may very well be pregnant with Jackie Jr. Its likely that the writers insinuated that they had sex so they can later come back and drop the “kate, your pregnant” bomb on us when she returns to the island. Only to further the whole love triangle between her, jack and sawyer.
One more thought I had…
…in the episode “this place is death” one of the members of Rouseau’s team (Brennan or Lacombe) was seen carrying a guitar on his back.
Since we are never clear on how much time has elapsed from when Jin is with the group outside the Temple, to the time when he witnesses Danielle kill Robert, after killing the rest of her team. Does anyone think it at all possible that the guy with the guitar could be the same “musician” who programmed the code for the Looking Glass to deactivate the jamming signal.
I realize I may be reaching here, (which I normally try not to do) because this character was killed off and was mostly insignificant, but my first reaction to seeing him with the guitar was that this could possibly be the “musician” who programmed the code. But now that he is dead, who knows.
I just wanted to see if anyone else possibly thought about that too, and if we will ever discover the identity of the mysterious, code programming musician?
I was watching Top Gear this morning and they talked about Faraday (as below info), i thought, i know that name!, maybe they based Daniel on him
*Faraday, FRS (22 September 1791 – 25 August 1867) was an English chemist and physicist (or natural philosopher, in the terminology of the time) who contributed to the fields of electromagnetism and electrochemistry.
Faraday studied the magnetic field around a conductor carrying a DC electric current, and established the basis for the magnetic field concept in physics. He discovered electromagnetic induction, diamagnetism, and laws of electrolysis. He established that magnetism could affect rays of light and that there was an underlying relationship between the two phenomena.[2][3] His inventions of electromagnetic rotary devices formed the foundation of electric motor technology, and it was largely due to his efforts that electricity became viable for use in technology.
I watched ”The economist” again, season 4, epis. 3. They never explained who was him, did they?
Ben told Sayid he was protecting all of them, and that these people in his list for Saiyd to kill was part of that. Who were these people?
Thats why Ben told Jack and Jin he did so many things to protect them?
Could the economist be Jeremy Bentham, i.e., John Locke?
Jeremy Bentham was also an economist…
Jonathan, I dont think the economist could be Locke, it all seemed to well organized for Locke. What with the female spy and all. I think it is Widmore, I think we were meant to believe it is widmore, but then again, they may throw a curve ball at us and have it be someone else entirely. Maybe Abaddon, or Alvar Hanso.
It did bug me that we still dont know the identity of the employer, but im sure we will at some point. Maybe during the “Ben” episode of this season.
moohaha – agreed. dont think the economist was locke, why would it be, he wouldn’t have wanted to kill Sayid. I do not know but maybe Abbadon as you say… this is really a big mistery for me, i was hoping to know by the end of 4th season but we’re still waiting for it. no way it was locke though
Remember daniel saying time moved differently on the island? I think the couple of days to the losties are the 3 years to the o6 so i don’t think anything to have happened in those years is due to locke.
I also think adam and eve are rose and bernard. I’d say they hid in the caves during the flashes and died. Remember they had a dice each-one white one black? Like they were of white(caucasian) and black race-i’m explaining this terribly but hope you get my drift.
