Lost is finally back and looks to be picking up as strong as it left off. What did you guys think of the first 2 episodes? We’ve seen flashforwards, flashbacks, flashbacks inside of flashforwards, and now random time travel. I have a feeling the writers are going to have a good time with this new element in the show to keep us guessing. At least they did say they were moving into more of an answering questions mode rather than asking more.

From what I understand, the opening scene is a flashback that takes place when Dharma is constructing the island. Since the remaining survivors are stuck on the island and it keeps shifting in time, Im led to believe that through these time shifts, Faraday makes his way to the Orchid in an attempt to get them “unstuck” in time and return them to the island as they know it. Away from a purple flash every few hours or so.
Also, I have a feeling that we are going to witness the “purge” that occurred on the island. If the survivors keep going back and forth through time when the Dharma people and the hostiles inhabit the island, then why wouldnt they show us that portion of the story. Does that mean that Rousseau is still alive on the island too?
I put my thoughts into a post, Lost: 20 observations on Because you Left and The Lie http://connectwithyourteens.blogspot.com/2009/01/lost-20-observations-on-because-you.html
What do you think?
This show is going downhill.
I was soooo looking forward to last night’s premiere season 5 shows. I was so confused afterward. I agree with Tim above. It was not a good start to new “Lost” fans like myslf. I have watched all 4 seasons since October and have loved every single episode. But it was tooo eratic last night. I will continue to watch but am not quite so enthusiastic now. I hate that! Too many new faces showed up at once! Chaos….blind confusion…..Jack’s beard was terrible. I only hope it gets better.
Uh i have no idea what the heck was going on in these past two episodes. Slow it down, this story is too important to be rushed and it kinda is starting to piss me off.
I loved the first 2 episodes. Well worth the wait. The time travel is going to be exciting and allow for the opportunity for some of the mysteries to be solved and witnessed first hand. In example during last night’s episodes the gun shot to John’s leg might explain John’s sudden inability to walk when he and Boone were at the plane in season 1.
I thought the first two epis were great. Some things are starting to come together, but there is so much more to learn. While I can see why some people were a bit confused (I admit that I will watch it at least once more before next Wed to try to catch some things I might have missed), I like the pacing.
The 2 episodes last night went so fast and furious that I honestly cannot recall much about them. I go to another website and read the script of each episode to let it all sink in. That’s the only way I can digest what happened. Now, of course, I am 59 mind you. I am sure you younger folks grasp it much quicker. I do love this show however. The complexities are intriguing, but it’s not so much the events like time travel (which I think they could do without incidentally) and still have a great time, but the character interweavings. That is fascinating. The humanity they show for each other–even the INhumanity makes sense. Character development is what I tune in to see mostly. And please do slow down and let it unfold. Too much was crammed into 2 hours last night.
I think you have to watch it twice to really get it. Its hard to remember everything from the previous 4 seasons and relate it or connect it to things that happened last night. There are def more answers than questions coming now. What happens when they see themselves on the island….what happens when they locke sees himself? is that a possibility?
Is jack working with Ben or is he manipulating Ben just to get back and save everyone? Still some confusion but I like the direction and pacing.
There are so many things I want to comment on or bring up I will watch it again and keep notes.
This show is just the best.
I enjoyed them. I might have to watch them again as suggested.
did you notice the lady at the end, in the present, was using an old computer just like the one in the hatch that Desmond had to type into? That Michael chatted to his son with? Then tells Ben they have 70 hours? I believe that’s Daniel’s mom. She’s the same one that talked to Desmond when he was stuck between spaces and it was killing his mind.
This makes me wonder if some of the Others like Richard (the eyeliner dude) as well as the nurse that talks to Locke in a Flashback while he’s at therapy, knew how to use the machines, or later did, and jumped through time setting the path of events.
Absolutely insane!!I love it!! I watch every episode twice just to hopefully get all of the complex plots. Can wait to see how this season unfolds!
The first two episodes were so amazing. I agree, one has to watch the first two episodes at least more than once to really understand. At first I hated the time travel idea, but now I fully embrace because the way they are doing it is amazingly awesome. I love the pace, but still there are those moments, like when Kate and Sun are talking, and when Hurley is talking to his mom that slow the pace the down and really show character development. If Season 5 is as good as the first two episodes, it will be my favorite Season so far. Great Start!!
Awesome!!!! and like Adam Said….there were definately many answers covered…..
People who don’t get it must have a very low IQ.
I thought the first 2 episodes where fantastic and the time travel adds a great twist to it all. Was a little disappointed with Season 4, but this season looks to be getting back to what i love about season 1-2-3.
I just wish they would go back to doing 22-23 episodes, 10 episodes suck..
actually there will be 17 episodes this season….lol but hey its still not 22-23-or-24.
Widmore told Sun “They do whatever I tell them to do” This was in reference to Oceanic Airlines… I sure wonder if this means anything more here….
Could it be that Widmore was even part of an overall master plan by using Flight 815 to begin with to somehow navigate to the island… may be a stretch…. but I personally feel there is more to this comment being made by Widmore and we will discover in time what he really means by “…They do whatever I tell them to do…”
After 4 seasons of this show I feel like I’m getting jerked around. Watching the series review it occurred to me how ridiculous this who thing is. Like the writers are just making it up as they go along. You get ten cliffhangers per episode and five “Oh my Gods” we’ve got to save the islands/our freinds. I’ll certainly watch a few more episodes to see if they start to answer any questions but it’s like a soap opera with no real conclusions, just new, made up, fake scientific pablum. Maybe the hiatus made me start to lose interest.
Does anyone remember the mobisode where Dr. Candle (Holowax) etc….. snapped on everyone for the “clone” rabbit appearing?
Was it really a clone or was the rabbit time jumping and came to a point where it could see itself….
Eitherway I say all of that to say this…. Did anyone notice how Danial was keeping all the survivors away from them possibly seeing themselves by telling them not to go certain places etc…(not including the hatch) but like say for instance the beach.
My last theory posted for now….
Could it be as Desmond being the “Constant” that he was not suppose to let the hatch blow up… And it was the blowing up of the hatch that changed the course of events and that the events keep looping or some sort of time thing until his decision(s)to do otherwise become null and void….therefore making correct decisions when presented again so that time will correct itself….
I def think time will be correcting itself. I believe it was Daniel who said something to Sawyer to the effect that we have to get your friends back to the island for the time skipping to stop and it can continue on like it was all along. What he meant by continuing on like it always was made me think that it is all pre-determined and by getting these people back to the island will be a way of correcting it.
A few other things is that I believe Charlotte had been on the island before because her nose started to bleed like desmonds and minkowski’s (freighter weirdo) Desmond found his constant so he doesnt die…does charlotte need to find her constant so that she doesnt die? Daniel’s constant is Desmond….why is charlotte the only one bleeding?? And if its bleeding doesnt that mean she is skipping through time and should pass out at time when she is skipping?? Why hasnt she done that? I think her constant could be Richard and the reason is they need someone constant in both times they are skipping and since he never ages and has previously visited Locke maybe he visited her as well. Plus her initials are CS lewis like the narnia books author and they did some sort of time travel through the closet right??
Daniel Farday is being weird too. Why did he wait for charlotte to leave to get desmond out of the hatch. why is he being so secretive. great character.
jason, apparently everyone was led to believe that by not pushing the button, (the destruction of the hatch) would be the end of the world. It may very well prove to be that.
think about it – after the hatch blew up, nothing else seemed to happen except for the electromagnetic build up being released. But maybe it was the beginning phase of the “end of the world”. The beginning event in a chain of events that will ultimately force the destruction of the planet if not corrected.
These time jumps may be important for helping the survivors prevent that from happening.
Or maybe im completely off the reservation with this. I dont know
I found this page very interesting. Its from Lostpedia, and its referring to the location of the last scene of “The Lie” between Ms Hwaking and Ben.
(Just copy and paste into your browser)
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_station
but locke didnt press it one time and the time ran out then he quickly pushed it and nothing happened….i think that happened….maybe i’ve been huffing glue to long tho
Sorry about the multiple posts, I didnt know about the delay and thought that my computer was jacked up.
My bad.
Adam GREAT insight on Charlotte….I couldn’t put my finger on it her situation but I think you have helped me to discover why…. I defintely think she has been to the island before and needs a constant it all makes sense for some reason. If Richard is her constant you get the kudoos.
My other thought is that Miles was Dr. Candle’s (Holowax, etc) son. And that he may have been to the island before. I beginging to think maybe all of them may have been to the island before and they too have needed to come back to resolve the current issues.(Like the O.6).
Locke did let the time run out however he still ended up pressing the execute eventually….but not to the point of no return…..
Ben also mention 2 people….Gabrial and Jeffery…. I wonder if we will find out who the hell they are…. and are they good or bad…?????
I still feel (ok hope) Ben is Good and Widmore is Bad.
Wow. What a start. My first thought is that I am very confused, but now that I think about it, there is a lot to be learned. My first issue is with Sun. She seems to be on a completely different path than Kate, Hurley, and Jack. It is almost as if she is setting up Ben or maybe Widmore for revenge, instead of being overly concerned with the folks they left behind. In other words, where is her survivor’s guilt?? It also seems as she knows more about those who want the island than everyone else. I think this because when Kate told her that she was approached for a blood sample, Sun immediately and very calmly said something to the effect that they don’t want their lie about the island survivors uncovered. How would she know that??
Next Sayid. I am a little lost with him. When he told Hurley to do the opposite of anything Ben tells him, it suggests to me that He had some falling out with Ben (perhaps after the woman He killed in the economist), and He no longer trusts him. I am not sure.
I am trying to figure out how Daniel and the other people on the boat were able to get back to the island. If it only moved to a time period before the plane crashed and was still visible to Daniel, it should have been visible to the helicopter as well, But, it was not. Does anyone have a logical explanation for that one?
Why was Ethan wearing Dharma clothes when He shot Locke? Was he an original Dharma guy and survived the purge, or was He recurited by the others after the purge? If He was recruited, it makes no sense for Him to be dressed in Dharma clothes, unless I saw it wrong.
Last, when Daniel spoke to Desmond at the hatch, He told Desmond something to the effect that He was not subject to the time travel issues. What does that mean?
That’s all for now. More comments after I watch a second time.
I am going to have to agree that the show is going downhill a bit. Think back to seasons 1 and 2. There are people stranded on an island with a mysterious creature and another group of people trying to kill them. Strange, but just strange enough that it isn’t super corny like it is now.
The episodes were centered around each survivor, they would frequently have flashbacks to show what type of person they were before they landed on the island and how their past influences the actions they are about to make. No flash-forwarding. No crazy time jumps. Its as if after season 3 they realized they have already covered every character multiple times in terms of history, and then needed some crazy way to keep “flashing”. Once the flash-forward idea ran out in season 4, they just make totally random ass jumps back and forth that make no sense.
I am a fan of bizarre stories, but this is just getting out of hand. Not because it is too weird, but because it is so incredibly corny and fake, and because by the time they answer a previously presented question, you don’t even care anymore because you are no longer curious as to what the answer is. Its as if it took the writers multiple years to think of an answer because they really decided to just throw random weird things in that they thought would look cool.
These writers need to make the rest of season five WAY less confusing for starters. Actually having some good character development for the newcomers (Faraday, Charlotte, and Miles) would be cool because right now it seems as if they just added them into the show because they knew once the island “moved” (seriously, islands move now?) there would be no interesting characters left there but Sawyer. Finally, and definetly most importantly, give us more answers. Telling us who the hell the Others actually are would be nice, since that is pretty much a 5 year old plot thread that hasn’t been fully answered yet. We know more about the Others, but we still really don’t even know why are how they even got to the island to begin with.
Season 2′s finale was great, it answered old questions, it presented us with some new ones, and it gave us some good action, with a cliffhanger that left us wanting more but gave us a good amount of conclusion as well. Since then there hasn’t been a good season finale yet, and this premiere was definetly not the best either. I hope to god these two can get things back on track, and end the show having things make some actual sense to the loyal fans that have kept watching it for years. When I first started watching LOST my whole family watched it, and I had previously been the only one who hadn’t. Now I am the only one that does.
Please…. PLEASE ANSWER SOMETHING FOR GOD’S SAKE! And next episode lets not all constantly feel more at ease watching commercials then the show.
One more thing. Since when is the original hatch only 15 minutes away from the beach???
That, and I thought only the important castaways knew about it. Now everyone does.
And can Kate please finally choose between Sawyer and Jack….Please? Sawyer is supposed to look like a bastard when he tells Kate “You’ll come runnning back to me as soon as you get pissed at Jack.” Well the thing is, it’s completely true.
Enough of this love triangle crap, pick between one or the other!
KLA–Ethan was not wearing Dharna clothes. Also, possibly a good call from Adam about Charlotte needing a constant, and from Jason regarding Miles being the son of Halowax, Candle, Chang or whatever his real name is.
“I THINK” Charolette is the little girl who gave BEN the wooden doll of herself back when they were kids. I could be completely wrong as well. The little girl was most likely only 8 or 10 years old. Enough time to pick up an Australian accent throughout childhood in my opinion. I’m just throwing that out there.
ALSO, the older woman at the end was the woman who sold Desmond the ring for Penny. Only when he went to actually purchase it, the woman was inclined to tell him that he’s not suppose to buy the ring, he’s going to leave Penny and end up on an Island. I also agree that she’s Faraday’s Mother. I also agree that Dr. Hallowax is Miles father. Who know’s though. The new season is on a great start.
Yes!!! an Island move…in time believe it or not Tyler…
You can’t believe that but you can believe a “smoke Monster” or Bird that says “Huuuuurrrrley” or an island that just happens to be somewhere with people on it but for some reason NEVER found, or a plane that happens to leave Africa but just happens to be carrying a brother of a survivor who also happens to crash on the island…or wait a crippled man, now all of a sudden able to walk, or a hatch that keeps some sort of power surge enrgy in flux….all of this in the first two seasons….but now…. 2 seasons later you have an issue with an island not being visible….as if all that was mentioned before could ACTUALLY happen????? Let me guess you probably thought TV show Fantasy island was real…..
Stop watching it then since you have finally discovered that this show is actually fiction
Just watched a second time so here goes:
1. Why did Sun show Kate a baby picture of her daughter instead of a recent one? The child has to be at or near 3 years old.
2. Was it just a coonicidence that Sun goes to LA within the 70 hour period that Ben needs to round up the 6? I think not. Suppose she is secretly working with Ben to setup Widmore? After all, in season 4 she never said who was the second person she blamed for Jin”s death. She only identified daddy as one of them.
3. Was the compass that Richard gave John the same one He used when He tested Locke as a litte boy?
4. When Juliette and Sawyer were attacked, I originally thought they were Dharma folk. But on a seocond look, they had uniforms but only a name (no titles like “Work Man.” Could they be part of Danielle’s crew? Maybe not becuase they had English accents. But, they did have a rifle just like the old one Danielle had. On the other hand, they could be Widmore’s people from the previous time He posessed the island. At least that is what He told Ben in the penthouse “you know that Island is mine.” Thus I assume he has been there before.
5. It is interesting that the guys coming to get Sayid had darts. They were clearly not there to kill him. I also noted that Ben reacted strangeley when Jack told him he had Sayid. This may go with my earlier post that Sayid and Ben has some kind of falling out.
6. Did anyone notice how similar it was when Richard removed the bullet from John’s leg to when Ben removed the Bullet from Sayid at the end of the Economist. I mean they both put on glasses, they said it would hurt, etc . . . Just a thought.
7. Last, at the very end of the second part when Mrs. Hawking came upstairs where Ben was, did Ben say “Annie Locke” instead of “Any Luck”???? Someone above suggesged that Annie is really Charlotte, but what if Annie is Locke’s mother. The timing is a little off, but something is not quite adding up here. Big surpirse.
Jason you do have a point I guess. It’s just, the reason it worked for me for the first couple of seasons more so then it does now, was because of the WAY it was portrayed wasn’t nearly as corny. It just seemed mysterious and pretty damn cool. But when Ben climbs into an ice tunnel and spins an ancient wheel, then magical light comes and the island starts time traveling, it seems pretty cheesy.
And I did enjoy all seasons of LOST, I still like the show, otherwise I wouldn’t be spending my time coming here and writing about it. I just had a problem with the premiere because it seemed confusing and extremely cheesy.
And I know it was fiction, just because I think the concept of them putting a moving time traveling island into the show is a bit much, doesn’t mean that I am unaware that all the rest of the show’s elements are unrealistic.
Hurley had some great one liners!
I haven’t watched ep.2 yet, just finished ep.1 and i agree the show is going downhill… i thought the show was boring, Lost is no longer scary and there is no suspense as before ! it is starting to suck a lot unfortunately.
i love charlotte’s accent though ! and what the hey is Desmond doing to penny again? must be crazy…
i hope the other shows will improve a bit.
btw, zaid – absolutely, really funny !
Miles as Hallowax’s son has got to be the case….makes perfect sense.
The few cheesy parts that there were is when Hurley is on the balcony and the guy runs up and takes a camera phone picture….that was stupid. And when Frogurt gets hit by the flaming arrow as he goes off about having no fire….absolutely lol stupid cheesy funny. That was wack too.
Seems like the six are all over the place.
Is Jack working with Ben?
Is Sun working with Whidmore? I forgot she blames two people. Ben and Whidmore? Ben and Jack?
Why has Desmond not shaved in three years?
All burning questions
Was lost ever scary? Was the smoke monster scary….Thought that was the cheesiest part of the show until the guy got hit with the arrow.
Where’s Frank Lepedius the Helicopter pilot….does he have to go back?
I THINK THE WHISPERS IN SEASON ONE MIGHT MIGHT BE THE SURVIVORS LOOKING AT THEMSELFS AFTER ONE OF THEM JUMPS THROUGH TIME JUST A THOUGHT
Liked it, but it was so quick. Things were just coming down one after another and I couldn’t keep up with them all. Still some questions were asked though, I guess. Like, is it possible John is going to live, somehow?
Just finished watching episode 2, which i thought was much better than episode 1. at least a bit more organized (a bit).
Im still confused about many things and totallylost made great points above. That is strange that at the end the woman that desmond had seen before in his sort of flashforward/back came to talk to Ben. It looked like a sort of sect or something… maybe she can timetravel however she likes, since she was seen before with desmond in a flashback but real thing…
What still makes me love the show is the irony writers put sometimes and also the funny situations, i.e. hurley that buys a shirt “I love my Tshitzu”, while being in a very dramatic situation ! haha that made me laugh
What is going on with juliette now? i pressume she is sick. I love daniel faraday and think he is a key character this season.
Ah! one last comment: i loved that Ana Lucia is back! at least for a bit, it was one of my favorite characters
by the way scott, are you doing a recap ?
I LOVED the Season premiet! It was amazing. I just have one question. Who was that old lady Ben was talking to in the end of Ep. 2? I think I’ve seen her before but I cant remember her. Please help, I’ve been dieing to know!
MACKEYDUFF-I dont know about that thought…times when whispers come before…the others would show up… or some type of entity (ghost character) shows up…. for example last season… “Whisper Whisper” the Christain appears to Michael ands says…”you can go now”….. BOOM!
KELLY-
Kelly- I may be wrong… but wasn’t that the same woman that was married to Danny Pickett (the one that kept wanting to kill Sawyer?)
that lady was in desmonds flashback when he was in london he bought a ring for penny and had that photograph taken he also ran into charlie in the rain he was busking
I think its Claires mother who is looking for the blood sample from Kate. Also the butcher shop was called simons place, charlies dad had a butchers shop and was called simon
Oh maybe. But why would she be with ben? Hmm. I really cant wait until next wednesday! I hope it answers my question. Oh and Mackeyduff, you have a really good point, it could be them.
Im sorry Kelly…I was thinking you were talking about the woman in the butcher store…I did not read your post correctly….Yes….MACKEYDUFF is 100% correct on who she is was etc.
by the way, for the comment calling it “made up science crap” is def not in tune with fringe science or quantum physics. faradays explanation of the island being a record and skipping is perfect. see the island didnt exactley move, it folded time, creating a pathway that it can “skip” through. ben enabled the skipping, but since ben was shipped off to the middle east, somebody might just have fix the skipping. which was prob what faraday was doing in that flash back/foward scene in the beginning of episode 1. i want to know the four toed statues origin. thats my fave mystery.
The four-toed statue is suppose to represent that people have been coming here since the beginning of time. Its just like the Black ship in the middle of the jungle. People have been interested in the island for a very, very long time.
I liked how they incorporated the old lady in the end of the episode. In the episode Catch-22 from season 3, when Desmond is talking to the lead monk, there is a picture on his desk of him and the same old woman. In a LOST podcast someone sent in a question to the writers asking if the audience would ever learn why she was in that picture, the writers said it was a one in a billion chance.
Well apparently that was pretty good odds because we now know she atleast somehow relates to the church because that is where she was actually seen in. I wonder if once Desmond gets wrapped up in all this he will cross paths with that old lady again. Or better yet, that same monk.
Also, does Frank have to go back or not? In fact, where did he even go to once he left the island?
I’m inclined to think episode 5×01 answers a lot more questions that people are giving credit for… You can’t change the past because you didn’t change the past – the presence of the crash-survivors in the past is part of the cause of the events that followed.
It’s probably also a fair bet that it’ll all turn out to be a closed loop and the original, very first inhabitants of the island will turn out to be the Oceanic-six jumped back a very long way.
Except, of course, that it precludes any ideas of free-will in that whatever they wind up doing is what happened originally anyway…they may as well just enjoy the ride and not agonise over making any decisions about what to do
My ideas are just as likely to be wrong as anyone else’s though and I have no idea about the four toed statue (“I’ve got an idea! Let’s build a giant, four-toed foot! It’ll confuse the hell out of us when we’re still in the future! Go on, it’ll be a laugh.”) I do think Sun’s switched sides though and is probably responsible for the blood-test lawyer….
Charlotte did say to Dan in Season 4 that she’s looking for her home; the island. So that makes the likley hood of Richard being her constant pretty high, aswell as her being Ben’s friend before he gassed the place. He took the doll with him, but never went looking for her; maybe she was off the island.
How did the girl in the butcher shop know Ben had Locke? She must be pretty high ranked. If Locke is in as much trouble as Ben makes out to be, not every buther employee will have the know how. She said “He’ll be safe with me.”
Jones, Jones, Jones; I have a feeling he was with Dannieles crew on the Black Rock. Unless they were previously on the island with another group of people before the Dharma – Which means they are pretty far in the past.
I think jj abrams is getting some script/ acting practice for his new star trek film – it was so obvious that the new guy that talked too much was going to die before the end of the episode, just like the unknown extra in star trek always did.
I am still confused on who Richard is, could someone please give me a recap… thanks!
I think the blood test was to scare Kate in going back to the island and the only way she would move is to think she would lose the baby.
i agree with richard7769. regardless of the person who was actually behind it, i think that is the case.
I also agree with richard7769 and Adam about scaring
Kate to go back to the island. After all, when Ben and Jack were talking (either in the hotel or mortuary) Ben seemed fairly confident that Kate would join then when Jack did not. Also, in a previous post I thought it odd that Sun would end up in LA within the 70 hour period that Ben needed to corral the 6. Then, only hours after Kate gets her scare Sun calls her?? If Sun is working for Ben, which might be possible to get back at Widmore (assuming, of course, that He and not Ben is the second person she blames for Jin’s death), it makes sense.
You know Daniel Faraday told Sawyer “you can’t change the past” and I read somewhere that Daniel tried to keep the Losties away from their future selves so they don’t see themselves or something.
Well what if the smoke “monster” is actually a future version of the person who sees it? I remember Locke was caught by it once in S1 and it tried to drag him down a hole in the jungle. Maybe that was (future) Locke himself trying to warn his earlier self about what he should do…
2 versions of the same person can’t exist in the same space/time so maybe their future self is shown as smokey.
Smokey turned on Keamy’s crew towards the end of S4, maybe that was the future Losties travelling in time, knowing what was happening and doing something about it…?!
The only really bad thing I remember smokey doing was killing Mr Eko. If I’m right why would future Mr Eko kill his past self?
Hey sheggsy, thats an awsome thought about the smoke monster !
Do you think the writers create the scripts from everyones ideas in here, lol !
I had a thought about Locke being in the coffin and them bringing him back, isn’t that what Jack was doing with his dad in the first season !
)
Maybe the island wanted him back as he seems to keep popping up, so thats why the plane crashed on the island, maybe he died to bring the people on the plane to the island
I agree too, daniel is becoming an interesting character
Hey guys..! What about the fact that this season is going to be only 10 episodes?! Is it true? OMG! I mean we’ve been waiting forever to see this thing go through and then its only 10 episodes..! I think that really disappoints me. Has anyone heared about this?
Agent– I think it is 17 Episodes for this season and the next.
It is supposed to be 17 episodes this and the last according to Wikipedia. I also agree with 62 on Locke and Jack’s dad to get them to the island.
The old woman with Ben is interesting I feel she may be Faraday mom.
Also with Sun’s husband they keep referring to him as presumably dead. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing him soon.
GOD I love this show.
I don’t think Locke is dead. I think he is faking it to make the Oceanic 6 to come back to the island. Richard told Locke that he had to die so maybe he took the easy way out and hes not actally dead.
Also, I agree with the Smoke Monster idea. my little brother was watching a show called Ben 10 and a scientist went back into the past and he turned into light monster, since he saw himself in the past. So it could be true that it was them.
Thats an interesting parallel between Jacks dad and Locke having to die in order to bring everyone together.
The whole thing about Ms. Hawking and Desmonds old monk friend in the picture, I pointed that out a while back and never heard from anybody on it. I doubt we’ll see the monk come up in future episodes though, but who knows.
Its def. Ben behind the blood test lawyers coming to see Kate.
As for the 2nd person Sun blames for Jins death, Im as lost about that as I am about the four toed statue.
Great comments and insights from everyone!
I’m not sure that I will be doing detailed recaps like I did last season, but I’ll definitely be putting my thoughts in the post on major events as well as in the comments along with everyone else. I’d much rather this be a place of discussion and getting everyone’s thoughts in one place and discussing them.
Anyway – I really like the idea of the smoke monster being some formation of the people on the island seeing either a past or future version of themselves. They will eventually give some explanation of what it is and I think with all the focus moving towards time traveling that is the most logical thing for it to be.
As for the woman at the end. Definitely think its Farraday’s mom. When he is talking to Desmond he tells him to go to Oxford and ask for his mother (as the sound was starting to fade away).
I also think Charlotte is Annie from Ben’s childhood. I also have read that she may be Locke’s mom from a different time period (may have been in the comments here – I cant remember). At the end Ben asks the woman “Any Luck?”. Which kind of sounds like Annie Locke? That may be a stretch and completely off, but something to think about.
For the people saying they didnt like the episode, I think you just like to complain. First the show doesnt answer enough and is full of mystery, now they are answering things and you wish it was more like the old seasons. Just sit back, enjoy the show, and let it unfold how the writers want it to.
Keep the comments coming – Scott
Bex – Good thought about Locke being similar to Christian Shepherd and coming back to the island for a reason. I like that. What if Christian has some background with Jacob (he was seen in the cabin with Claire in S4)?
Scott – I don’t think the timscale would work for Charlotte to be Annie. According to Ben, Charlotte was born in 1979 – making her 25 in 2004. Ben met Annie in 1976/77 according to Lostpedia. I know time is a variable in Lost but still…
Kelly – I like that idea about Locke not being dead. Like you said, Richard told him he’d have to die to bring the O6 back to the island. Maybe they found a way to make him look dead or maybe he knows he’ll ressurect(sp?) when he gets back to the island.
I watch SCI FI last night and here are a few twist for the one who said that when Locke went to the plane with Boone and he couldn’t walk it was because he was shot there in Season 5 it was his right leg he lost movement in and Ethen shot him in his left leg. (although could be a mistake on the writers part)
Mr. Echo was talking to his brother about confessing and it wasn’t him, smoke monster maybe? Maybe it is the smoke monster pretending to be Locke?
I don’t know I’m excited to find out. That is what makes this a good show, something to talk about and get your mind off it;s butt.
sheggsy….OMG… what great insight on the smokie!!!!!
Thought Mr. Echo is not the only only one (or the Keamy Crew)…. the Pilot in “the Pilot” first episode got got by Smokie.
No doubt here as far as the blood test to scare Kate into running….but of course….who and why. I agree… Most likely Sun, but again who is Sun with?
For everyone wondering who the second person that Sun blames for Jin’s death. I think the writers state in the 1hr recap session that Jack was the other person Sun blames. For this reason I think Sun is now trying to work with Widmore.
I know Richard7769 just said that it was Lockes wrong leg but I still like that idea of him not being able to walk in a later time because of the gun wound. I think that it would relate back to the scene when Richard visits a young John and asks him which of the items are already his, he picks the compass a jar of sand and a knife. Somehow as a kid he knew that he already owned the compass.
I think it is all going to come back to the writers making a show about “we see what we are shown”. Basically we are constrained by our knowledge of how the world works, I am sure that way back when they thought the world was flat that based on there rules of the times and there beliefs, that was perfectly logical. Is it so hard to believe that there is something in this world that we don’t understand but it happens anyway.
I know that this show is fiction and that there isn’t a black smoke monster in the real world but I do think that writers love to challenge our minds constraints. I do think that this was there plan from the beginning. Have a half normal show, draw people in, and just keep making it a little stranger, push the envelope so to speak. I think they are doing a great job because they have drawn us in, now we have a invested interest. Genius.
Those people that think the show has gone down hill, I would suggest to keep watching because I think this is all a part of the master plan.
I hate the smoke monster and i hope that it has no ties to the show or plot. Its is the most ridiculous thing on the show. If it is part of the show in any format I’ll be disappointed.
I don’t think the oversight on Locke’s leg would be made…to big of a mistake to shoot him in the wrong leg, I think the writers would be better than that.
I think Sun blames Jack too. Ben is obvious and I believe her when she says it’s not Kate. The other person could be Frank for flying away but that seems like a stretch. Whats his role anyway does he have to come back?
Someone said Charlotte is maybe Locke’s mom or Bens friend from childhood. It could be one but not both…just wouldn’t make sense and or be believable. Based on some previews it looks like she dies anyway. Her character was interesting for about 3 seconds when she was introduced in a desert as an archeologist when she found the polar bear bones…after that she’s boring.
this is the best forum i’ve come accross,
i just have to make sure i don’t read any more now till Monday as Lost isn’t screened in the uk until Sunday evenings
I think its wednesdays in US isn’t it ?
So speak to you next week x
I agree with adam on Sun blaming Jack but I can see her working with Ben if she feels Widmore is the reason for the explosion. Remember she was heading to LA BEFORE she was help by Widmore so she had a reason to go there anyway.
The smoke monster is just like having a gang in your pocket or a mercenary at your call. Remember we’re talking time travel and moving an island, smokie doesn’t really bother me that much.
Watch Knicks personality and crazy LOST fan Al Trautwig’s talk about his Lost Thoughts: Episode 1 right now:
http://blogs.msg.com/themonitor/2009/01/23/al-trautwigs-lost-thoughts-episode-1/
He really knows what he’s talking about!
I have a question:
Do you think when Sun returns back to the island she will try to get Jin back by going back to the past?
RIchard7769, I agree, Sun does blame Jack. In her conversation with Kate, after she tells her that she doesnt blame Kate, she immediatley asks, “Hows Jack?” before they cut to a different scene. Total foreshadowing.
However, when Sun and Jin were leaving Korea in season 1. Sun had no business in LA except to escape her fathers rule. Jin is the one who had to deliver the watch to one of Mr Paiks buiness associates. So for Sun to simply go to LA explains no alterior motive.
It only seves for her to be conveniently located nearby as Ben is rounding up the Oceanic 6.
thats my 2 cents
since I’m kind of new to posting will there be a new one after the next episode or continue this thread?
Also here’s food for thought, Faraday said Desmond is special that’s why he reached out to him….why? Is it because he didn’t come from the plane, or because he turned the switch… any other thoughts?
Richard – I’ll make a new post each week for each episode as well as sneek peeks from upcoming episodes. Otherwise the comments will get out of control.
Mahooha– good point about Sun saying to Kate “How is Jack.” It was a little suspicious. But, I think it is a bit of a stretch to think that Sun would have so much animosity towards Jack. I know that He stopped Kate from getting Jin on the freighter, but He also did a lot of other things for her and everyone else on the island.
For some reason I am beginning to think that Sun will have a much bigger role in this whole story. Given the comments by Richard7769 above that Sun was on her way to LA when approached by Widmore (I am assuming she was coming form London since the Airline Agent spoke to her with an English accent,), I am led to beleive that she is working for Ben against Widmore because He is the second person she blames for Jin’s death.
Has anyone come upon with an idea as to what happened between Ben and Sayid such that they were no longer working together??? I am sure those were Ben’s people that attacked Him and Hurley at the safehouse, and they were trying to dart them instead of shooting them.
By the way, someone way above commented about how cheesy it was for someone with a camera phone to snap that photo of Hurley with the gun. I agree. What person in their right mind sees a guy thrown off a balcony and sees a man with a gun standing from were he fell, and does not turn around and get the hell out of there so that the gunman does not try to pick you off from the balcony for being a witness??
On the Syiad and Ben note I believe Ben killed Syiad’s wife and he found out about it after he took care of Ben’s list..IMO
Adam is right the writers would not make a mistake like john getting shot in the wrong leg. Richard7769 you may be on to something.Remember in s-4 when locke found horace goodspeed choping down trees to build the cabin. He told locke if he wanted to find jacob he would have to find him meaning the bodies in the hole ben left locke to die in. In that scene he turned around to locke and said “What im saying probably dosnt make any sence, thats because i have dead for 20 years.” Horace turns around with blood trickling from his nose. The next time we see lock after that his scar on his eye has moved to the other eye. Maybe there is a mirror effect or something.
GREAT insite,
Also going with the blood trickle down the nose, what about Charlotte nose bleeding?
And Faraday in the tunnel as it was being built?
I can’t wait for tonight.

sometimes when I post it says theres an error for not filling my name and address in…then my post is deleted. It doesnt happen all the time but figured id let you know. just wrote a long one and I cant re-write it so I’ll keep it short.
I agree with Moohaha sun probably blames jack, I think it’s BS tho because he did help everyone out. Dont know how you could blame him. Biatch.
I think Jin is dead because at the start of this season Daniel says as they are going back to the island on the boat we must have been inside the radius. To me that means people on the freighter were outside and have no chance of getting back to the island as it disappeared. If he comes back I think it is as a dead person like anna lucia
Adam,
as far as Jin goes, I think youre right on. I used to think he would still be alive, but that makes more sense. He either blew up with the freighter or jumped into the ocean, and since the island moved, he would be stuck in the middle of the ocean. Shark bait. The only was would be if he swam 40mph and made into the islands move “radius.” But I doubt that.
He will be back as a ghost for sure.
As for Claire, I heard she wont appear in season 5, but will be back in season 6. The question is… will she be real Claire, or ghost/vision Claire?
Because we know that claire appeared as a vision to Kate, but living people, as well as dead people, have been able to do that before. (I.E. Walt)
Im betting shes alive though.
Excuse my english, for its not my mother language. The blood on the noses seems to happen for those who travel in time and dont have a constant or cant reach it, like horace, minkowski, charlotte, desmond(before getting in touch with penny by the freighter’s phone). Daniel faraday, who is the one who best knows about the subject, has desmond as a constant so he doesnt bleed. All of these probably got in touch with large amounts of magnetism.Desmond seems to be the only one who can change the past, as Daniel told him the rules dont apply to him. And what if the oceanic 6 are the island´s constants and that´s why they have to get back!
jonathan that is a great point about them being the islands constant. well done. could very well be the case!
The silver haired lady appears in a photo buddied with the abbott in monastery, on his desk, when des is getting ‘fired’, and then in jewellers with des, not wanting to sell engagement ring & giving him lessons on course correcting, and now she’s in a lab below a chapel doing those all important sums. I don’t think she’ll be Daniel’s mum at Oxford tho’ but there’s a ‘good witch / arch angel’ feel about her, don’t you think? Could she be Penny’s mother – major rival of Widmore somehow?
Daniel – REALLY INTERESTING CHARACTER! I wondered if he’d popped back to the orchid at time of construction (when he went missing for a couple of hours after making contact with des in the hatch) to try and correct something AND/OR, was actually there at the time, because he invented / perfected the time manipulation energy harnessing thingy in the first place! That would make him a very significant character! I think he’s in the ‘good’ camp, along with the white haired lady, Richard & Ben (yes, I think Ben is ‘one of the good guys’).
Apart from Rose and Bernard, hasn’t every character come to the island with a major ‘constant’ deficiency in their lives – shocking relationship disasters all round, either with kids / parents / partners, or all three – surely this is key – I love it!
I’m very excited about what Richard said to John ‘I won’t remember you the next time I see you…’ Does that mean we’re due for a mega time shift back – perhaps when he was once mortal? Let’s face it, he hasn’t been mortal for a long while (or is that time travel stuff?).
Whew! I think everyone needs to calm down and eat some fruit or something!
(who knows where that line came from?)
Oh, just finished “Jughead” episode. It’s getting better. Thank goodness. But how you folks remember tiny details cracks me up. Do you memorize or take notes or just live in “Lost”? I just watch for the entertainment on each episode and I do not try to figure out the whys and wherefores…….in’t only television, albeit usually good television.
Is there another foroum or whatever its called for episode 3? if so, can anyone send me a link to it? thanks.

i dont take notes but i admit i have to watch it really carefully so that then i can comment. Overall that there are so many things happening on the show at the same time (i.e. episode 1, geez !!) that it makes it tricky
Enjoyed the first 3 episodes of this season, Lost always has something new
… started reading this forum last season and was looking forward to the insights by Scott this year too…
One suggestion, it is possible to have a voting option on the comments (similar to most current sites) which would promote the more interesting insights..
+1 on the comment voting buttons.
The first 2 episodes brought many more questions than answers. here are a few I am having right now:
1. Is Miles the son of Dr. Chang – the training video guy? They show a child at the beginning of one of the episodes
2. Is the airline they showed the water bottles from how they get back to the island? There is a website – http://www.ajiraairways.com/
3. Jin and Rousseau have now met. Should they have remembered each other?
4. How come the rules of time travel don’t affect Desmond.
5. Was/Is Sun going to take Aaron?
Im not sure if any1 wrote this as i did not hv time to read through all the comments…im watchn the first ep rite now as in australia we r behind just a little…but the first thing i thought was if the island is skipn through time what will become of those who hv died will they then continue to return and die as it keeps to skip through time…will they change the future beacause as it skips they r not where they were originally doing what they were b4 eg, lock seen the plane (with all the drugs)crash when really that wasnt found till many years later…wow i havnt ever watched half the ep yet n im dying for more already…lol
ok well i should hv watched more b4 writing anything…lol…my bad
Hey Scott, how can i put my pic my next to my comments???
It’s ok blonde moment…i think i did it…lol
