Lost Season 4 Finale Recap

The Lost season 4 finale was chocked full of action, answers (whether you liked them or not), and as always more questions.  Who was in the coffin, how does the island move, will Desmond ever be reunited with Penny, why are the O6 lying, and many more all were answered.  These are the questions that we have been wondering about for quite sometime.

It seems that more than a few are frustrated by the continuous new questions, but I’ve learned to accept them.  This is the writer’s style.  They give you pieces of information, often times out of order, and let you, the viewer, try to piece them together.  It keeps you coming back for more and it keeps you interested in the show.  Is it so bad that you have to think while you watch TV once in a while instead of being force fed a storyline?  That said, I thought this was a great season finale.  Now on to the recap starting with the freighter:

On the freighter:
Sun and Jin have made it back to the freighter and now know Michael is there.  Sun makes a comment to him about being pregnant which Michael looks sort of surprised and says, “that’s great”.  I could be wrong but I think Michael did something to Sun on the island in season 2 where he blindfolded her or something.  I’m not 100% sure but I think during this same event, he may have raped Sun.  I’m going out on a limb and saying that Sun’s baby is Michael’s and not actually Jin’s.  Either I’m a genius, or way off on that guess.
Desmond, Michael, and Jin try to deactivate the bomb.  They are unable to do so and decide to freeze the battery using nitrogen.  With only 1 canister, they run out quickly and Keamy’s death and no pulse being transmitted results in the bomb being activated.

Christian Shepherd appears to Michael saying, “You can go now”.  Many are questioning still whether or not Michael is dead.  To me, the statement “you can go now” coming from another dead person is a pretty clear signal that Michael is dead.  Everyone wanted to know what happen to Michael when he left the island in the boat.  His story has been told, he has redeemed himself, and he is dead.  I have to admit its pretty funny that the writers of Lost can detonate a bomb with a man standing an inch from it and the viewers still question his death.  They have us wrapped around their pens and they can do whatever they want to us.

On the island:
Jack confronts Locke who tells him he’s not supposed to leave the island.  He fails to convince him, and tells him he has to lie about the events that have taken place if he makes it off.  Jack will realize that he does indeed have to lie when he see’s the island has disappeared later on in the episode and he has to take back his comment that “there’s no such thing as miracles”.

Ben has turned himself over to Keamy, but as he said he “always has a plan”.  The rest of the others surround them and take them all out with nothing but some blow darts and rope.  I’m assuming this is what was communicated to them with the mirror-flashing scene.

Daniel comes back to take more people back to the freighter.  He tells Charlotte and Miles to make sure they are on the next boat because he knows it will be the last one.  Miles makes an interesting comment to Charlotte that its weird she would want to leave after all this time she’s been spending trying to get back. This confirms that our friend Charlotte has indeed been on the island before, but when? Ben’s old friend maybe?  I don’t think so, because Ben and Charlotte have met on the island and they did not recognize each other.  If he did recognize her, it wasn’t very nice of him to shoot her.

Ben meets back up with Locke and once in the Orchid, Ben tells Locke to watch an orientation video that explains the purpose of the hatch.  The video reveals that the station is capable of moving objects in both space and time.  The “vault” is the device that is suppose to be used to do this, but Ben seems to know there’s a secret cave behind the vault which leads to the real time machine or frozen donkey wheel (whatever you want to call it).  How does Ben know that it is behind the wall?  It would seem that the wheel has not been turned since the creation of the Orchid station, as that is the only way to access it.  If that’s the case, how does Widmore know of the wheel?  Was he there on the island prior to the Dharma stations being built?  Many have guessed that he was one of the members of the black rock ship that was seen in the middle of the island and that the reason he cant find the island again is because he was the last one to move it and turn over leadership to Ben.

Another interesting thing in the orientation video, Halliwax says the rabbit will “appear” to have disappeared, but in reality…. then it cuts off and starts to rewind.  I think this is a slight clue that the island hasn’t physically moved but just appears to have disappeared.  A lot of people said they didn’t like that the island just disappeared.  Not really sure what they wanted to see with an entire island moving, but I think this is why the writers went with the disappearing method.

While down in the Orchid, Keamy pays them a visit.  At first I thought it was going to be eye patch man, but its just Keamy in his bulletproof vest.  Ben lays a smack down on him and stabs him to death.  We find out that he is wearing a heart monitor, which triggers the c4 on the freighter if his pulse stops.  My favorite line of the episode follows with Locke saying, “you just killed everyone on the boat”.  Ben replies “…So”.  Just when you’re starting to like Ben, he drops that line and is back to his evil old self.

Ben informs Locke that Richard and the others are waiting for him and will answer all of his questions and be at his command because the person who moves the island can never return.  Many of you complained that you didn’t like the donkey wheel that was used to move the island.  However, remember the 4-toed statue, and the hieroglyphics that we’ve seen all over the island.  The island and all of its mysteries are ancient.  Again, I’m not sure how people would have like to see the island be moved but I think there was some logic behind the wheel.  Found via another site, “In Buddhism, the Wheel of Dharma is depicted by an eight-spoked wheel, symbolizing both the Eightfold Path and the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism”.  The logo is shown below and matches up pretty precisely with another logo we are familiar with.

frozen donkey wheel
Another interesting thing about the wheel is that often times, animals are tied to this type of contraption and they walk to make it turn.  If you remember, a polar bear with a collar was found in the Sahara desert.  The same place Ben comes out at.  Hmmmmm….

While Ben is working to move the island, Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Sayid, and Frank take off in the helicopter only to find out they have a gun shot in their gas tank.  Sawyer decides to be the noble one and jump off to eliminate as much weight as possible.  Before jumping though, he whispers something to Kate. My guess is that it has to do with taking care of Cassidy and Clementine.  The chopper makes it back to the freighter just in time to fix the whole, pick up Sun, Aaron and Desmond, and to watch Jin DIE in the explosion.  Yeah, I said it Jin is dead.  He was on a boat with a pile of c4 that exploded.  He was arrested for a DUI.  He is dead.  He may be back as a ghost or whatever we are seeing with the rest of the dead people, but Jin is dead. And if one of you say anything about him being in a flash-forward buying a baby present, so help me : )

As they are flying back to the island, the O6 receive quite a shock as the see the island disappear before the eyes, and they run out of fuel yet again.  They are forced to crash in the ocean and miraculously no one is hurt or killed (although Desmond needed a little mouth to mouth action from the doc).  While on the life raft, they see a light and a boat out in the distance.  The scene was pretty reminiscent of a previous finale where the others came in a boat and took Walt.  This time they were created with a much nicer face than Mr. Friendly though.  The boat belongs to none other than Penny.  After 4 long seasons, Des and Penny are finally reunited.  At this point, Jack tells everyone they must lie about everything because he knows Locke was right.

The story Jack works up is that he and the rest of the O6 are crashed on an island, set off in the life raft, and ended up in Mumbata.  From there you know the rest of the story. Frank also sets off in another lifeboat and plans to use the same story of crashing in the helicopter.  I wonder if he will cross paths with Farraday’s boat?  Desmond of course stays with Penny.

Flash-forward’s:
The episode opens up where season 3 left off with Jack telling Kate, “we have to go back”.  She’s a bit angry at the idea of going back and doesn’t want to hear anymore talk of it.  Apparently, Jeremy Bentham talked to all of the O6 trying to get them to come back to the island.

Walt comes to visit Hurley in the mental institute.  Is it just me, or does Walt look like Kid from Kid n Play?  He tells Hurley that Jeremy Bentham came to see him too and wants to know why the O6 are all lying.  Hurley says it’s to protect the ones that didn’t come back.  Walt than says “like my father”.  Here, Hurley says yes, but I think he is lying to Walt about him being dead.

Sayid pays a visit to Hurley as well.  Before going in, he asks a man what the time is (who replies 8:15 – nice numbers…).  Sayid promptly shoots him and is obviously taking the next person on the list out.  Because he is watching Hurley, the people on Ben’s list are obviously after the O6 on Widmore’s orders.  Once inside, he tells Hurley that Jeremy Bentham has been killed and it was made to look like a suicide.  He also wants to take Hurley somewhere safe away from the rest of the people on the list.  Oh yea and, check mate Mr. Ekco.

Sun goes to see Charles Widmore in London.  She mentions that she is a Director at her father’s business.  I saw in the comments that people thought she was using Widmore’s money to buy out part of her father’s business, but this is wrong.  She specifically says that she got the money from her Oceanic settlement.  She informs Widmore that they have common interests and gives him her card.  She also says “As you know, we aren’t the only ones who left the island”.  The motive here I think is to get us to think she wants to work with Widmore to find Ben as the common interest.  But as she’s walking away he asks, “Why would you want to help me?”  Sun doesn’t respond here, she just walks away with a worried look on her face.  My theory is that Jeremy Bentham also paid Sun a visit and has instructed Sun to go after Widmore and merely pretend to work with him.

Time for a Kate flashforward.  We see Kate sleeping in bed alone.  Presumably this is after she and Jack are no longer living together and probably right after their meeting at the airport where he tells her we have to go back.  Kate is woken up by a phone call with some familiar whispers that we are use to hearing on the island. Apparently, the voice is speaking backwards because when played in reverse it says something along the lines of  “You have to come back before it’s to late”.  After the strange call, Kate hears a noise and goes to check on Aaron and she finds someone in his room watching him sleep.  Its creepy dead Claire and she has some words of warning.  “Don’t you DARE take him back”.  Kate then wakes up from her dream completely freaked out.  I think the writers again are leading the viewers in the wrong direction.  The obvious person she would be talking about is Aaron, but I think she is talking about taking either Ben or Jeremy Bentham back to the island.  We’ll see how it plays out though.

Jack’s flash-forward is the end of the finale and he’s back at the funeral home with the coffin containing Jeremy Bentham.  While looking at the coffin, Jack gets an unexpected visit from Ben.  He tells him that the only way to get back to the island is to get everyone to go back together, including dead John Locke.  He also says he has a few ideas on how to get back because of course, he “always has a plan”.

Scott great recap Im in with the thought the island moved in time and appeared to dissaper.Where did you find out about lapidus taking another boat ? Imissed that bit

2

Excellent finale episode. Love the fact that although questions are answerred, more are conjurred up to develop this amazing mystery adventure. Right from the first episode in Series One, you know that there’s something special about this show. Hat’s Off to the creators, writers and actors/actresses.

Keep up the good work!

3

So is john locke jeremy bentham?and if so why did he lie about his name????so confused.

4

Yes, John Locke is Jeremy Bentham. He is lying about his name for the same reason the O6 are lying. Locke stayed behind on the island and if he was using his real name everyone would know that the story they were telling was false.

Also, I think John was trying to hide from whoever it was that killed him.

5

What I don’t really understand is who they are trying to protect by lying. I mean if Widmore had people going back and forth to the island and knew there were people from 815 on it (which I assume that the people on the freighter would have been in contact with Widmore although that isn’t shown to be true) who are they kidding. I mean if they are claiming that the plane on the bottom of the ocean is actually there’s then Widmore would obvisouly know that they are lying thus they are not really protecting anyone by lying. Did anyone else have the same thought or do you think I am assuming to much.
Anyway I do think it was a great episode, I was pretty dissapointed with the donkey wheel although depending on how/if they explain the wheel it will probably make a lot of sense. (Like Scott said probably deals with the 4 toed statue or the original people on the island pre-drama at least).
Also I’ve been thinking about the swan station dissapearing, do you think they could now be in the same place. I know it is said to have imploded but is that the case for sure or could that have been a mini move in which only the swan station actually moved. In the very least I think the two are connected a lot more then we know right now.

6

scott my friend who is in the coffin ? desmond or sawyer or lock im so fuckin confuseddddddddddddddddd:S:S

7

Locke is in the coffin. Desmond and Sawyer were filmed in the coffin as well as alternate endings in an attempt to stop spoilers from leaking out.

8

awwwwwwww ok thank god its not desmond :D DID U SEE WHAT KATE HEARD ON THE PHONE
ITS JACKS FAHTER OR WHAT ?

9

I’ll read this recap tomorrow, still have a lot to study for an exam so I don’t have time today, but it looks good :)

10

Very good recap

But…..you say “creep dead claire”
When did we see claire die??

11

Who is Cassidy and Clemintine?

12

“When did we see claire die??” - Claire is probably dead, that’s from when the house she was in exploded and Sawyer came and “saved” her. We see her appearance, but it’s a ghost or something.

“Who is Cassidy and Clemintine?” Clemintine is Sawyer’s daughter, Idk who cassidy is.

13

Cassidy is Clemintine’s mother. Won of sawyers cons invovled conning Cassidy but he couldn’t do it(or she found out about it), she was interested in it and got sawyer to teach her. At some point he got her pregnant and when he was in jail cassidy visits him and tells him he is the father. Check out the link, everything you would ever want to know and more about lost…
http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Cassidy

14

I’m not sure about the Michael raping Sun part. Then why is she so nice and open towards him?

I didn’t think about the numbers 8:15 when the man at the mental institution gave Sayid the time.. Nice catch.

And I agree with Walter, I missed the part where lapidus took another boat?

“Won of sawyers cons invovled conning Cassidy but he couldn’t do it(or she found out about it), she was interested in it and got sawyer to teach her.” - I don’t understand that sentence, won of sawyers cons? And what is conning? And what did Sawyer teach her?

15

I think he meant to say One of sawyers cons..

Conning means to trick someone. Sawyer was a con artist and he tricked people out of money.

Part of the con was to let Cassidy think she caught him in the act. This was actually part of his con so that he could trick her into wanting to learn how to do it and help him.

16

But Jin CAN’T be dead… we saw him in a flash-JUST MESSING WITH YA! Scott, I cracked up at your note about this. People clearly don’t always read through the comments otherwise they would’ve read at least one of the 3546879735431 times someone corrected people when they thought that episode was a flash-forward.

Great recap! I like your insight into the wheel. Also, I’m with you on enjoying the writers’ style and just going with the flow when they only reveal parts of answers and whatnot. I felt fairly satisfied overall with the finale and look forward to getting some answers (even bits at a time) and even more questions over the next 2 seasons.

Has anyone watched Damages (out on DVD now)? It was a GREAT show on F/X with Glenn Close and Ted Danson, among others. They did a similar thing where they went out of order and jumped from the past to the present and we didn’t get the answers until the season finale (but at least we did get most, if not all, answers by then). I highly recommend people watch it. I think it was only about 12 episodes long.

One last thing… The other day while I was logging into my iBook, I noticed the avatar for my guest account looks suspiciously like your avatar. :) I should’ve made the connection sooner since I know you’re a Mac user/guru! I LOVE my Mac!!

17

Oh yeah… Although I did notice the strange look on Michael’s face, I’m just not buying that he raped her, but who knows…

18

Scott is right about my earlier post, I meant to say “one” not “won”, I really got to start proof reading my posts.
I don’t think that Michael raped Sun but I wouldn’t doubt that they had a secret relationship.

19

hei,

i think they show jin’s sun and hurley pick him and he cannot be michael’s son because it is a white japonese boy!

anyway, we did a great recap!

bye

20

and dont forget guys.. this season was about the 06 getting off the island, next season is about WHY they need to get back to the island. and the final is about them (attempting??) to get back to the island.
{plagiarized from a previous quote}
CANNOT WAIT FOR THE RETURN-HURRY UP JANUARY!!

21

“he cannot be michael’s son because it is a white japonese boy” - A child isn’t always a mixture between two parents. It can change later on. Though I do not think it’s Michael’s.

22

No Melissa, it can not change and it is always a mixture, half from the mother and half from the father, if it was a red little boy maybe… but it is not. :)
And, in the episode of the first season when micheal scares jin that was working in her little farm he does it to convince Jack the they should fight against “the others” why should Michael rapper her that doens’t make any sense?!
bye

23

Sofia, actually that’s not true. Sometimes a baby from, for example, a white woman and black man is just white at birth, and it can get black within a couple of years ;)

24

Nice recap sir. You are the first person, that I’ve read, that has actually tried to decipher what Sun was talking about to Whidmore. I seriously believe that was a very important scene, one that will probably set up the orverarching story next year, maybe even more than the last scene with Jack and Ben.
I wrote more about it in my blog:
http://ncjl.wordpress.com/2008/06/07/season-4-finale-suns-experience-sun-talking-to-whidmore/

25

Great Recap! I think you are totally on to the writers in misdirecting us as to whom Claire was talking about. Good catch on the numbers too. I do, however, wish to quibble with two bits:
1. when you say maybe Lapidus will pass Faraday’s boat. When the “island” (and I think it’s a ship, not an island) was moving, just before it disappeared, they showed four groups of people: The Others and John; Juliet and Sawyer, Faraday and the losties, and then the O6. For each of the first three there was a “twhack” sound in addition to the general otherworldly noise, but not for the O6. I think Faraday’s boat was inside of the “move bubble”, if you will, and was transported along with the “island” as it was nowhere to be seen after the island moved.
2. I think it’s possible the “island” moved through time AND space because Benjamin did. He moved at least ten months into the future and to Tunisia. Edgar Halliwax in the orientation video, was talking only about the experiments in the vault, not to the “frozen donkey wheel” (which looked like a capstan), which could be much more powerful, as it looks to be part of the original ancient technology.
Who know, though? We’ll just have to wait until Jan ‘09. I hope there’s more about Miles, Daniel and Charlotte (and I really liked Miles’ comment: “Yes, what DO I mean?”). Thanks again for a great review. Has everyone signed up for Octagon Global Recruiting?

Check out the bottom of the screen. ;)

28

Ah.. That´s odd *-)

I live in Europe, so I never heard from that. Is that real or just ‘test’ for Lost? To see what people would do?

29

hello,my name is mylene i am sorry for the writing mistakes it is because i am french but i live in england(basingstoke).Anyway,i love lost it is my favorite serie but i was a little disapointed because o the end of the season 4 because of keamy’s death.he was my favorite personnage i loved him i am so bad about that so i am still hoping that in the next season he would come back but all of my friends said that he won’t,he’s dead.so i thought anyway in lost there are always strange things happened so i will still hope that he will be in the season 5,he could come back like in the end of the first episode and we have a big suspence it would be so cool.please, please made him come back ,he is so great.xXx to kevin durand and all lost crew.mylene,14 yrs old. byexXx

30

please take him back but please don;t make him kiss a girl lol.bye

31

i think if he doesn’t come back i won’t watch lost any more because he was so great.

32

and for when the island disappeard i think she is still here but we don’t see it

33

please he has to come back and all of my school liked him even if he was one of the bad guys.

34

kevin durand is my favorite actor he is so talented and his rap is so cool.i hope he will come back in the season 5 he could just do a heart attack and come back to live,as you can see he could come back and it won’t be so strange as it seems.
i won’t beg but i am so sad about that you have to bring him back to life.
xXxBye

35

He won’t come back alive.. He was stabbed and died bleeding.
If he will be back in the show though, he will be as a ghost.

36

hi i heard that jin is still alive, and will be back on the island, has any1 heard the same?

37

Where did you hear that helena?

38

Heard the same rumor on Jin he’s got a contract for series 5 and 6 apparently claire has not

Anyone seen the 13thClue that ABC have been advertising ? I think a few people on here have guessed that one already though

39

A very weired thought: if the island was “moved” into the future much less time has passed for the islanders than for the O6 when the do finally return. By the way: if they all have to return, like Ben said, doesn’t that mean that Walt needs to return as well? We learned by watching the LOST PIECES that Walt is a special boy himself…

I really don’t need Martin Keamy to return but I thought it was great to see Tom Friendly for a couple of episodes in Season 4. Really liked his character.

As for John Locke (Jeremy Bentham): I don’t think he commited suicide like “they” said, perhaps Matthew Abbadon got to him… I’m very curiuos to see how John did leave the island.

Don’t know what to think of Charlotte: so far she’s been nothing but a blue-eyed, red-haired British bitch (pardon my french). If she originated from the island it should be very interesting to see where her story fits in. As for Miles: very creepy guy. Love to get more of his back story.

I don’t think the Desmond story line is finished after being reuinted with Penny. If Ben actually does try and get to her we should get to see more of this BROTHER. To me one of the best TV characters ever!!!

Anyone else out there who thinks that Sawyer and Juliet hooked up? :-)

40

anyone plz answer me
why season 4 have only 14 episode?
when will season 5 start?
and who is Keamy?
Lost is the best series for me to.

41

“why season 4 have only 14 episode?
when will season 5 start?
and who is Keamy?”

Because of a strike.
In januari 2009.
He was on the freighter, shot the captain and got stabbed to death by Ben.

42

I was just wondering what people will be watching to pass the time until Lost comes back? (in January I hear you all say?) I find that it always seems to come around quicker when I get addicted to something else!

Last year it was Heroes, this year I am looking for something different - any suggestions?

43

….oh and by the way - maybe Sawyer and Juliette turn out to be Adam and Eve since they seem to be two of the few, if not only, people left on the island. (Yes I realise the Others are still kicking about there, but if Sawyer and Juliette are essentially on their own - they might have to start up something)

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this - I haven’t been on the site in a while and haven’t had time to read all the new posts yet.

44

I watched Ugly Betty before, but I watched all S1 + S2 episodes and the third season doesn’t come out until September unfortunately..

And there’s also Bernard & Rose, Miles, Charlotte, .. on the island left.

45

THAI GUY…

Lost producers have stated that next season will consist of more episodes to make up for the loss of episodes this season….

46

ok…OK…

I agree with the theory that Claire was talking about Ben when telling Kate not to “bring him back”.. (or that she may be talking about Widmore as well)… Eitherway my theory on the Locke death is Ben actually killed him and that Ben is using his death to get back to “his people”. To become “leader” (if you will) again. Kind of like the episode where Locke had to kill his father and show the “Others” his father’s dead body… (This is just theory I am throwing out there it is not written in stone)

Also did anyone else notice that when Kate went into the room to see if Aaron was “OK” after she woke up from her Claire vision….that she said to Aaron….”I’m sorry”…

WHAT’S UP WITH THAT????…!!!!!!

Does that mean she was sorry she took him from the island….or is this a future hint that she has made a decision to “GO….BAAAAAAaaaackkk!”(Famous quote of Jack Shepard)

47

This fall….

will be the season finale of “The Shield” good charactor development show although it is a shout’em up Bang Show…

and isn’t 24 coming back as well???

48

“or is this a future hint that she has made a decision to “GO….BAAAAAAaaaackkk!”(Famous quote of Jack Shepard)” - that’s a very good point, I didn’t think about that.. Very well possible.

49

Heres one question I have been thinking about? Since the island was moved, and seemed to disappear right before the O6’s eyes, what about the 2nd smaller island where the Hydra station was located (season3)? Are the 2 islands linked by the wheel moving mechanism? Can you move one and not the other? I mean, if some of these theories about the wheel making an opening in the island that moves the matter, than how would it be a consistent theory to move a completely separate island?

Anybody have any theories on this? Also, does anybody think that the Lost writers will ever address this issue/question, or might it be too insignificant?

50

Nice review, watch it live on my site

51

Crippla…

My theory is that there actually was no second island…Eventhough stated otherwise by Ben. I feel Ben was just bluffing Sawyer…etc.

My theory is that they were looking a the back end of the same island itself…

Example…

Imagine taking a piece of string and wrapping it around a basketball. However the string is just long so that the two ends miss touching each other by say 2inches (or 2 centimeters if you’re on the metric system)

Or….
Maybe some reflective mirror thing caused by the electric field…

Or…
I CAN JUST BE FLAT OUT WRONG…LOL.

52

WAIT!!!

I just thought of another reason…

or the writters just want to confuse the hell out of us all!!!!!

54

When are they ever going to focus more on Richard Alpert. In my opinion he is the most mysterious character in the show along with Jacks Dad(Death/Grim Reaper?). Michael and Jin definitely both seem to be dead but expect to see them again anyway. If Ben says they all have to go back, does that mean Walt has to go back to the island too, I have a feeling thats who Claire is talking about. More questions but hey thats what the shows good for

55

Actually one more thing i want to add, I really dont believe Mikhail to be dead, it seems he has avoided death twice, Hes probably still looking for some revenge on Locke for the beating he got

56

i read the another theory commant and i don’t think the black rock is the deal here, i think the island has those powers, just like Parmoda triangle in real life (the three islands near Mexico on the ocean shaped like a triangle) it says that any plane flies over it, disappear, so they tried to go by ship and when they did, when they got near the islands all the crew passed out, but when they woke up they found out that their watches were hour back. and this is a scientific fact.

57

Anyone else think that Locke and Ben are scheming and that Locke isn’t really dead but just paralyzed by those little bitty paralyzing spiders? It’d be a nice plot twist to tie things back to that random “Twilight Zone” episode from S3. Surely tricky Ben has a few of those spiders in some underground glass cage somewhere.

58

Ok so John Locke is Jeremy Bentham. Is there some strange reason for Locke/Bentham always having the name of a famous philosopher? John Locke believed that human nature is characterized by reason and tolerance. Like Hobbes, Locke believed that human nature allowed men to be selfish. and Jeremy Bentham was a utalitarianist who said that pleasure has to come at the expense of a minority i.e “the greatest happiness of the greatest number”.

Just wanted to know if this had any relevance to Locke/Benthams character?

59

Wow wikipedia really does have everything! What i said earlier wasn’t me being picky! Lost is riddled with it!

60

Mike!!!

WOW!!! The Walt theory!!! LOVE IT….

61

i want to know what happened to daniel and the other ppl on the little bow up boat bcos daniel sent afew more people on the boat before the boat exploded and the island disapeared. Either daniel and the ppl are stranded in the middle of know where OR they too have been moved with the island bcos there within the islands radias.

62

“If Ben says they all have to go back, does that mean Walt has to go back to the island too, I have a feeling thats who Claire is talking about.” - I’m not sure, why do you think she’s talking about Walt?

And leah, I just want to add: OR they’re dead :p

Sun will never work with Widmore: she holds him responsible for Jin’s dead. The other person she holds responsable is, we know now, Jack.

Still Im confused though, because Widmore knows that the Oceanic Six are lying. (Did Widmore ever contact Kimmi on the Freighter?) Why he never payed a visit to one of them to get information about 1. Ben Linus. 2. The Island. 3. What happened to the Freighter? 4. The Other Survivers.

Strange things going on right now.

64

Ivar, she holds two people responsible for Jin’s dead, of which one is her father. So both Widmore and Jack can’t be.

Why do you say “we know now” - something I missed that says it’s definite he is?

65

Ivar - I am not too sure Sun holds Widmore responsible for Jin’s death. And regarding your questions what i think is
1) Widmore dont have to personally visit a memeber of O6 to get info ( he has agents/spies).
2) Oceanic 6 also dont know wht happened to island or suvivors
3) He wud probably know wat happened to freighter kos I assume its one the 2nd Protocol Widmore has secretly passed to Keamy.
4) Widmore and Ben has had a chat afer turning the wheel - and Widmore know Be is after his daughter Penny..and surely Widmroe will be prepared.

66

“Widmore has secretly passed to Keamy” - but Daniel knew about this as well?

67

Man, now i can’t wait for season 5. Anyone know when it will be airing? :)

68

Melissa - u r right.. i forgot abt that bit. But still i think 2nd protocol is a top secret within a close group of few people. Maybe Daniel was involved to formulate the protocol frm technical/scientific side kos he’s an expert on that field/

69

Yes, but why would HE want to do something like that?
I mean, Daniel is a bit weird, but not the meanest around.

And Vig, it’ll air in 8 months: Jan 2009.

I just finished the Lost PC game VIA DOMUS. If you are a fan of lost as I am, you should love this game. Lost has done amazing job, leaving some rooms for video game ideas. I just love the show. One complaint is wait time between each season. I wish they make it quick and quicker and quickest if possible. Waiting for like year or so makes you lose interest in story and loss of focus. Anyways, Season 4 overall was good, but then it was the worst of all seasons.

71

As far as Jin is concerned……

I feel Jin is setting up Widmore throught the seasons Jin as a charactor has been set up as a professional lier…Though she finally came to redemption with finally admitting to Jin that she had an affair this past season, I feel the lieing is still in her.

72

I disagree with the theory that Ben killed Locke. Ben has had so many chances to do so, yet he only pulled the trigger once. Ben knows that Locke is essential to the island’s coninuation. It also seems that the one person Ben is truly would never harm it would be Locke

73

that’s nice of you writing a hole newspaper, it helped me see some things clearer.
there’s a mistake in the scenario i think.
if the island disappeared then how sawyer found it when he jumped from that helicopter?

74

marouen:
Sawyer swam back to the island before it moved. He jumped from the chopper on the way to the freighter (before it blew up) and lost his shirt in the process!

Melissa,
Daniel knows a lot more than he is letting on. He is one of the confirmed time travellers so his knowledge of the second protocol could have come from the future (in the past, if you know what I mean). Anyway, he had scribblings in his notebook about the orchid station, one he, as far as we know, never visited. So one presumes he knew what would happen when the island moved which is why he was so desperate to leave (and as I stated before, I believe he didn’t because he got swept up in the “move bubble”). I think he will be back with more interactions with his beloved Charlotte.

Crippla,
The second island may have been connected to the main island but the connecting part was under water. So, it moved too. I’m not so sure it is an island anyway, partially because of it’s cold core. Volcanic islands would get hotter the deeper you go. It could be a vast ship of some kind powered by ancient (Atlantian, if you will) technology. (Hence all the glyphs and runes and the four toed statue). The “Black Rock” was a sailing vessel from the 1800s but it could also be that THE Black Rock (the island) is a vessel of some kind.

Remember, we saw the dead Dr. Ray before he was dead, maybe the same is true for Locke/Bentham.

75

regarding Sawyer’s return to the island:
- from his point of view, the time interval between his jump off the helicopter and the chopper blow up is about 10-15 minutes. Taking into account that before his jump they all were at least 5-10 flying, the covered by the chopper distance is quite large enough to swim it back within 15 minutes.

The only possible explanation is that the time for the peoples out of the island goes differently the for the ppl around or at the island.

76

Regarding Michael. I think he is dead. He was already trying to commit suicide back home, but he could not die because, as Tom said, the island wouldn’t let him. Right before the explosion Christian’s ghost, representing the island, visited him and said that he can now go, which I interpret as immortality spell revoked.

77

i have some commands i wanna share, first of all, Clair is defenately dead, remember when Sawyer, Milles Aaron and her were getting back to the beach (s04e10) have you noticed Milles giving her more attention, starring at her, when Sawyer gave him the restraining order!! and Milles talks to the dead. and apearantly, on the island no one stays dead.

then Milles told Charlortte about why would she want to go back? (i don’t remember the quote) and when she explained why she don’t wanna leave to Ferreday, she said, “would it make any sense to tell you that i’m still looking for the place where i was born”
which only means that Charlotte was born on the island and had some kind of sovenieer befor she got off the island, which also explains her flashback lookind for Dharma in the Sahara, but why in the Sahara? how did she know where to look?

about the black smoke, remember Mr. Eko (s02e05) when he died, just before the black smoke kill him his brother Yemi, appeared to him again, and ask Eko to redeem his previews actions but Eko refuses saying that he wasn’t sorry about anything he’s done, and that he’s done it to protect him, who respond saying “you speake to me as if i were your brother”.
which means that all the people who’ve been apearing to our losties aren’t exactly them, and i think it was Jacop.
and Jacop defenately isnot the black smoke, you know when Ben went to his secret room to conjures it, he came out full of black dust!! which means it’s something he made contact with (there is no way the back room is that dusty!!).

Michael and Jin arent dead.
there is still a period of time missing when Christian appeared to Michael and when the boat exploaded, and i think everyone jumped off cause they were already wearing the jackets when the chopper took off and Desmond has already warn them that the boat is gonna explode.

78

Question about the people that left on the speed boat. When Daniel told Charlotte she better get on the boat, she declined. Juliet stayed back. So the last boat headed to the freighter, I cant remember did it make it there? Was Rose and her husband on that boat.Or was it just full of random unknowns and daniel ? If they didnt make it to the freighter, and obviously didnt make it back to where julier was cause she was drinking alone. Are they just stuck in the middle of the ocean?

79

Interesting theory on the smoke monster tamara. But as for the whole Calire being dead thing, I think you are onto something. Why else would she appear to Kate in a dream if she were not dead.

Miles was definitley paying more attention to her after she was in the explosion. However, how do you explain Ben, Sawyer, Hurley, and Locke seeing her as well as carrying a baby?

80

why jhon locke wasn`t in the island? he was killed or suicide?

81

I think ben and locke might be half brothers..
Both mom’s names are emily and they are both blonde..
and ben and locke are both tease by richard alpert when they were child..
alsoo when locke is in highschool his principal is telling him about a company in portland about chemistry called mitellos laboratories and he said..” i spoke with a Dr. Alpert, He is very interesting in finding young bright minds and they want you to go to their camp these summer”..
I think richard alpert had to choose between the 2 brothers a leader for his people and he chose the wrong one.
That’s why ben fel so threatened about locke being with his people and being able to listen to jacob..

and about the black smoke.
rousseau said it was a defense system for the hostiles.
I think ben controls it.

About Charlotte.
do anyone remember the little girl that use to be with ben when he was small?
I think she might be Charlotte, don’t know just a theory…

and what about richard alpert never getting old??
or Hurley being able to talk to the death ones??..

and also i don’t think claire is death.
That she appeared in Kate’s dream and in jacob’s place doesn’t mean that she’s death…
remember when walt was with the others that shannon was abble to see him??
I think Claire’s thing is something like that

82

sorry about my mistakes
my english is not so good..

83

Thats a good theory about Claire considering how Shannon used to see Walt. I didnt even think about that.

The thing about Alpert never aging is something is sure that will be addressed next season, but as far as the theories of him being a member of the Black Rock crew that I have read on this site before, I dont think its likely. I think it has something to do with the science they are doing on the island and at the Mittellos labs

84

Crippla
on the island everybody saw a dead person “alive” and talking to them
i don’t know how clair could hold a baby, or how could Sawyer hold her.

Mariana
Charlotte couldnot be Anne(ben’s childfriend)coz he shot her when he had the chance, and she looks way smaller than ben and has red hair

Shanon was able to see walt when he was with the other coz he wasn’t walt(i’m saying Jacop) and so when Locke saw him (when he was shot)

what about Clair’s mom, who was on living on machines, and came out of coma just when Clair crashed on the island!
and Jack had appendectomy on the island which suppose to heal everything!
and the blood the others took when they had a chance first when they catch Michael, then Jack kate and Sawyer!
and the shoe if you remember, Dave’s shoe(Hurley’s imaginary friend) Charlie was wearing the same shoes when he dive to the looking glass, that means Dave was alive once and died, and Hurly can see dead people(even before he got on the island) so seeing Eko and Charlie is something not related to the island

the island is surrounded by a layer (just like the Ozon layer to the earth) which delay or fast the time, i’m not sure, and i think the island is based on the Parmoda Triangle in real life(i posted a command eariler about it)
or maybe similler to it

about the island dissapearing, i don’t think it did, it’s just appeared to be not there, coz Juliette was sitting on the shore and Sawyer swum back, and both didn’t effected.

85

hmmm…maybe that flash forward episode where sun is in the maternity word is half flashback coase jin is buying a panda for some woman’s child ….not his….i think that part is from the time he was still running arends for sun’s dad, his boss..therefor jin is dead…

and i don’t think Michael raped sun ..but judging from the look on his face he defiantly did something to her..vaccine or..something

when is the next season coming out? this one was short T.T

86

hey guys. just wanna say that i’ve enjoyed reading many of these comments and that i am glad to have found, however late, a bunch of lost junkies like myself.

just wanted to make a few observations. first, is it certain that widmore planted the plane? i thought there was some evidence that ben might have been behind that in order to keep widmore off the trail. however, if it was in fact widmore, then who would they be protecting by lying since widmore would already know that there were others that weren’t dead and that they were on the island?

second, why is everyone reading so much into michael being stunned that sun says she is pregnant? i understand that it was odd for her to tell him and his look was a little weird, but it is a huge leap to say they were having sex on the island. that would be a bit crazy. i think there was some sexual tension between them and i think they did have a little flirtatious thing going back and forth. but i don’t think it went very far because, at that time, sun was very frightened of jin and he was not the man that he turned into on the island. at that point in time he was a fairly ruthless hitman and sun knew that. she would have risked both her life and michael’s if they had been intimate. i do think that she told him because sun and michael had a connection and she wanted to still connect with him in some way and that’s the only way she knew how. and likewise, he looked awkwardly because he felt connected to her and had also gained respect for jin and was happy for them, but embarrassed about what he had become on the island (a killer), and also knew that he had to die on that boat, which automatically forfeited the possibility of him ever seeing their child. that’s what the awkwardness was all about — not that he had a secret love child with sun!!

also, do you guys think that locke/bentham is dead for good? that just seems to weird because we were just now getting a sense of him coming into his own as a leader of the island. on the other hand, it would be kinda “weak” as someone put it for him to be revived and come back to life once he got back to the island….

87

Hello every body,

I believe that the show is based on parallel worlds. Worlds that in them things happen exactly in the say way but very small differences. This might be way off the theory, but has been what I have been thought about it since the third episode.

88

Wow… there are so many comments and theories here that some have to be true…. But which ones??
