In an interview with TV Guide, Lost producer Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse revealed a few hints as to what we can expect to see when Lost returns for the final 5 episodes of season 4 in April. Lindelof says:
“The audience is going to feel us slamming down on the gas pedal.”
The interview reveals that we will find out:
- What happened to Michael and Walt from the time they left the island to the time they came to be in NY
- The debate on whether Jack or Locke were right in the argument of trusting or not trusting the freighter people is going to amplify to a whole new level
- We will finally learn the identity of the person in the coffin that Jack went to see at the end of Season 3
- Additional information on the freighter people
- Who shot Rousseau and Karl. The article says we will find out who “seemingly killed” them. This leads me to believe that at least one of them did not die. I’ve already mentioned that I dont think Rousseau died as we have much more to find out about the Blackrock and how she came to be on the island and how she ended up losing Alex to Ben.
With only 5 episodes left in season 4, it sounds like some pretty big questions are set up to be answered.
Lost will start back up on April 24 at the new time of 10pm.

i cannot wait for the second part of season 4. ive really really enjoyed this season so far, probably my favourite upto now! even tho alot of you didnt like `meet kevin johnson` i did, it answered alot about michael and i really like how `the island` wouldnt let michael die….. roll on april 27th(were 3 days behind in UK)
Should be good. I am going through lost withdrawls now though. It really does seem like the writers are steping into high gear now.
I recently watched a clip on youtube.com of the Comic Con 2007 where Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse were taking questions from the audience. At one point they were being asked if Jack and Claire were ever to discover they are actually brother and sister? Carlton would not allow Damon to verbally comment on this… so Damon simply nodded his head!

Can’t wait for what’s to come. Personally I think Season 4 so far has been the best the series had to offer. My personal vavorite is “The Constant”…
I still don’t understand why are there going to be only 13 episodes in this season?
anyways, can’t wait for the next episodes
letrodectus:
This is my post from “The Shape of Things to Come”, I think it will answer your question.
As I understand it, ABC originally intended to air 16 episodes, to be followed by two additional 16-episode seasons in 2009 and 2010. However, the WGA strike interrupted production of Season 4 and altered the original plan. Having only eight episodes completed by the time of the strike, ABC decided to premiere in early 2008 as intended, instead of holding episodes over to the next season. Following the resolution of the strike on February 12, 2008, a further five episodes were/will be produced, bringing the total number of episodes to 13. The remaining three episodes will be folded over into the last two seasons.
stepping on the gas pedal?? I thought they came to a halt with the Kevin Johnson episode. Why not answer the question about how they got off during that episode and flashback. I have said it before on here and I hate to repeat it but I really thought that the last episode was bad. The season as a whole has been awesome but for an episode that is going to leave us with a 4 week break it should have done a lot more. It should have answered many of the questions we had about michael and walt….instead we get really nothing except how he gets on the freighter which to me was all that interesting……the real stuff is between him and walt and their travel back to NY and they didnt do a good job on it in this episode. if we are getting a long break dont leave us with that episode. I def now think rouseau isnt going to die but i initially thought she was gone, there is more to her story that could answer some questions.
What has bothered me about lost is they take a really long time to answer some questions. There are some things they have just dismissed and we get nothing about them. every week we get a set of new mysteries both big and small and they seem to drag them out. all the flashbacks/forwards allow for almost nothing to happen in real time which doesnt bother me but in the forwards/backs they need to blow me away then……theres my rant…prob just annoyed cause we have to wait but the last episode was my least favorite. A story that needs to be told sure, but i think it was a bad job.
Hi. My first post, so I would like to start with a thanks for this nice site. I don’t always agree on what you conclude with in your recaps, but hey! that just calls for some nice debates right?
Anyway, what I don’t understand in Episode 8 is why they feel they cannot tell anyone about themselves and the island. Why don’t they just shout it out to everyone so the rest can have a chance to be saved? Ok, so Michael will probably face charges for his murders, but isn’t saving the rest a “nice” redemption? Instead of trying to redeem himself the way he does now?
Some other random questions:
Why doesn’t the captain look surprised at all when Sayid tells him about Michael?
Who shoots at Alex & Co? I think it is people from the freighter, since the chopper is missing.
Who staged the fake plane?
How can they travel back and forth to the island when the sub is gone, and they also said something earlier that they lost the ability to travel when the hatch imploded.
Why does not Jack know how to back to the island (Season 3 finale)? He saw the bearing they needed to have too.
Who told Jin what affair means? He claimed to have learned english from Sun and Sawyver, so…
I hope all answers we all have are answered when Season 6 ends
And please, don’t let Rosseau be dead
Hi Dal – welcome to the site.
I encourage you to disagree with me on any and everything. The fact is that no one really knows whats going on, so its interesting to hear all points of view.
To answer some of your questions -
I said in another post that I think the captain knew who Michael was and he was planning to use him in finding the island.
I think the freighter people shot at Alex and Rousseau. Not only because the chopper is gone, but the guns sounded like they had silencers on them or something. I dont think the others had any silencers on the piece of crap guns they carry around.
I had the same thought about who taught Jin what affair means. Since Sun was teaching him English I’m pretty sure she would have stayed away from that lesson.
Adam, i agree with you. I thought episode 8 was BAD and i was hoping for so much more…
Scott, Dal… i thought they were shot with arrows… am i crazy??
have a great Weekend !
another theory…quite far-fetched but possible, is there any chance that Widmore(Penny’s dad) has any connection to Alex?..hence why she hasn’t been shot. I do think Ben was behind the shootings and has kept her as bait in some sort of way. Thinking back…Widmore brought the journals of the Black rock, the ship Rousseau was on. Is there any chance that Widmore was on that ship and he could be her actual father….as it hasnt been confirmed that Ben was the biological father has it,im not too sure on that part. This could also explain why Widmore is looking for the island…to find Alex.
ive many a rant about Lost but adam above mentioned most already. about the last ep, there was so much more they could have squeezed in. for instance, when locke brought miles to otherville, nothing was revealed. ben said they’re gonna kill everyone and noone said anything. instead of hurley giving his usual stupid remarks and claire saying, so he’s one of us–it would have been so much better for locke to force miles to explain everything a)how they know of ben linus, b)why they want him c)why then they’re gonna kill everyone esp cos locke babbled: “you deserve to know what i know”-instead we got nothing new. ZERO! Then when ben was instructing Alex to leave, he mentioned “my daughter” and danielle didn’t mind! Up at the radio tower, she smacked him one and said: “She’s not your daughter!”…why the change-consistency issue? So the temple is a Dharma station, i wonder if we will ever see it or anything Dharma related..As to who shot Alex et al, well i reckon Keemy and his chums-why?cos the chopper along with keemy etc has gone.Keemy talked with Lapidus about some job and told frank not to be late..and its gone. no where else to land so it’s safe to assume its island bound and landed and the invasion is underway. if Danielle has gone it will just be the worst thing they have ever done and pure evidence they are just erasing SUBJECTS they need to explain. She has alot of interesting info to tell which we are all desperate to know but will we? I say no. Like in the flame, Sayid found all the Dharma manuals….WOW!!! all to be destroyed-camera focussed on FOOD DROP PROTOCOL which would explain how the SWAN was managed…never to be told now. They have too much to explain/show.
Bring on the other episodes, i doubt much will be revealed however.Peace guys/girls.
“Who shoots at Alex & Co? I think it is people from the freighter, since the chopper is missing.” – I think I read somewhere else that the girl who died (Locke threw a knife in her back, I forgot her name) from the freighter was flying with that other chopper.
Bhupi:
I think it is definite that Ben isn’t her biological father. I don’t think Ben and Rousseau ever had a relationship. In fact, I think Rousseau might have said that one of the other Black Rock survivors was the father. But the theory that her real father is Widmore is pretty good. Far-fetched, but most things in Lost are.
What you are saying, Jim, is one of the things that is really dragging down the show: The different factions never talk to each other, and ask questions, even though they are around each other pretty much. Doesn’t really make any sense. For instance, way back when Jack & Co met with the Others on the middle of the island, and the Others (Tom?) told them not to cross “this line” on the island. Right there, Jack should at least asked a bunch of questions about the Others, but no. And right before Sayid and Desmond travel to the freighter, when they just seem to hang around with the freighter people, why don’t they pump them for informations? But NO, it is more important to ask about who won some basket ball series or whatever
And one more question: How did Charlotte and Dan know about the poison gas factory? Someone MUST have given them detailed information about the island before their departure.
Maybe Widmore is much more involved in the whole mystery than we know. Two reasons for this: The ballon Henry Gale crashed in is labeled Widmore Industries. And the pregnancy test Sun uses is also branded Widmore Industries.
Of course, if the pregnancy test was found in the plane wreck this could be explained easily as a coincidence. Then the balloon is “just” some kind of first attempt at locating the island. But if the pregnancy test originates from some DHARMA hatch… am I making any sense here?
Jim, Dal, AGREED! i was very pissed too about the episode and the lack of answers… i had the feeling that the sitcom is weakening by exactly this sort of things!
And yes, killing Rousseau its nonsense since she has a lot of answers and info to provide and a big role to play yet… i mean, she’s the first one in the island practically… I still dont understand why no questions have been asked to Rousseau about some stuff going on in the island…
And Ben being there with everyone and no one saying anything consistent was the stupidest thing ever! there should have been much more explaining there… ah, upset !!
So many questions about the rest of the series. I have been looking around this site and people have been discussing who the freighter people are. I saw ‘pirates’ mentioned once or twice and wondered about the diamonds – you don’t think someone could be looking for them do you? The Paolo and Nikki storyline seemed to come from nowhere and disappear again – perhaps someone on teh boatis looking for the diamonds. Sorry if this has been suggested elsewhere.
I have a question that I have not seen much discussion on and it ties into what Dal (Comment 14) said about how Charlotte and Dan knew about the poison gas factory. I could be wrong (I deleted the episode off TIVO) but when Juliete got to the poison gas factory, didn’t Charlotte call her by her name and say something to the effect that she knows why they are there? Further, didn’t Juliet look like she knew her and knew what she meant? If so, does this mean that Juliet had had some kind of contact with them in the past?
By the way, very interesting theory about Alex possibly being Widmore’s daughter. But, if his intent was to find her, why go through all the trouble of getting a 747, filling it with bodies stolen from Thailand, hauling it out to the South Pacific, and dropping it down in such a way that it was in one piece for the world to see? But, if his intent is to get to the island, I guess I can understand his actions.
call me crazy but how do we know ben and widmore aren’t working together? maybe it is in ben’s interest to pretend widmore is the enemy to unite with survivors. This may explain how widmore knows so much about the island, and why the freighter people killed danielle’s boyfriend and why the captain was not surprised about michael…?
i think widmores after the island because of its healing abilities to make alot of money! bens there to stop him, the others are the good guys they suggested all along and the castaways will unite with them to save the island!
i dont have a clue how the ocianic 6 get off the island and why they have to keep quiet, only time will tell! matbe they bargain with widmore for something?
i think ben had something to do with danielle and carls shooting, the helicoptor gone flying somewhere i think is for something else that will be reveiled soon! matbe to report to widmore????
heidi, i think the reason widmore knoews so much about the island is that theres a trator within the others! i dont think this is too far fetched because like juliette im sure some would like to leave so they bargained with widmore for freedom! you never know its LOST it could be anything lol
I think it is important to think about all of the research that was being conducted on the island when you think about why Widmore would want to have access to it/control it. The island seems to have selective healing powers (Locke and Rose getting better yet Ben got cancer and people who conceive and try to have babies on the island die) and each Dharma station seems to be devoted to different types of research and all would be worth a lot to a lot of people.
I keep wanting to not think of the island as a place that can exert its will on its inhabitants but the more I try to put stuff together the more it brings me to that conclusion. Only time will tell I guess.
Heidi, I have a theory not too far from what you suggest. I think Widmore and Ben worked together in the past and Ben is acted as a lieutenant of Widmore. However, somewhere along the time-line Ben has outsmarted Widmore..
Never thought of that before Heidi, I think that’s a good point.
Although it’s not definite that the freighter people killed Karl & Rousseau right? It would make sense if they were.
But why does Ben want all the other people killed then, if he and Widmore work together? Would make sense as well that Penny figured out how to contact the boat, and when Charlie had to switch off that thing that prevented radio contact.
I think that widmore and ben are both trying to protect the island from other people finding it and cashing in on its potential… this as I said earlier would explain how widmore knows so much. I think michael is a decoy and ben will at some time in future ‘rescue’ michael from widmore’s freighter to prove to survivors he can be trusted. the fact that there are things on the island already marked widmore labs suggests that ben/others have received things from him….they must be working together. I don’t think widmore’s looking for island, he’s already found it and got a friend there helping him protect its location
So perhaps the Oceanic 6 are allowed to leave the island, for unknown reasons, and the others either get killed or have to stay there working for them?
From a missing pieces part, after Jack operated Ben:
Ben: No. No. I promise you I won’t do anything to prevent you from getting home. But if you do leave this place, the day may come when you want to return.
Jack: Never.
Ben: I’ve learned never to say never. And if that day comes, I hope you remember this conversation.
Re the theory about Ben and Widmore working together, I thought at first that Widmore could have previously been an Other, had a spat with Ben, then left the island, now wants to take over the island in revenge, but this didn’t make much sense, because if he was an Other, he wouldn’t have to go through all this trouble to find the island again, he’d know how to get there!
So another alternative would be that Ben worked with Widmore OFF the island, then they had a falling out, now Widmore wants some island action.
In any case, Ben and Widmore definitely have had some kind of previous relationship, they’re definitely not strangers to each other. Which is why the theory that they were friends/colelagues in the past makes sense.
I don’t think that Ben and Widmore are working together although it is a good and very possible theory. Ben although can get off the island I don’t think he has spent enough time off it to start a working (trusting) relationship with Widmore. Maybe Ben was taking all of Widmore’s best research people(i.e. recruiting much like they did Julliet just within the Widmore corporation) Widmore got wise to it and wanted to find where his former employees were going. Now after researching the island has found out about some of its qualities and research and sees the endless value in it.
Ben has people in hiding because he says there is a war coming, my guess is that he runs off and hides like the rest and lets the black smoke monster take care of Widmore’s people. (Or maybe that is what I am hoping so that we can finally figure out what that thing is!!)
I do think that Ben may have worked for widmore in the past. But there could be a lesser connection, I dont know what but def a connection. Also Miles is certain Ben has the power and know how to get 3.2 million dollars to the island and Miles is willing to tell widmore that Bens dead in exchange for the money. So Ben could very well be an ex-partner to widmore or possibly a direct competitor like someone mentioned.
I’m done bashing the last episode I think we are mostly in agreement the stuff that came out was important but not more important than some other things that could have been revealed.
My questions are
Where is the helicopter
Whats the real story with the freighter and Ben. Who is actually “the bad guys”
Someone already pointed out Ben has been smacked around once because he called alex his daughter now Ben says your mother will protect you and also calls her his daughter. So many inconsistencies in that storyline its pathetic.
Dont think Bens her father and I dont think widmore is I think widmore thinks its bens real daughter and will use her to get to him. She claims to hate her father but listens to everything he says. I dont get it…..
The last few episodes should be cool but they have to get to the bottom of some old storylines that should be answered and moved on from….otherwise its just a sloppy mess and loyal watchers of the show are left hung out to dry Sopranos style!
Jones….interesting theory, perhaps Juliet was working for Widmore before she went to the island and hence Widmore wants her back but it does seem like alot of trouble to go to just to get an employee back, so there must be more to it. I definitely think that Widmore has some sort of relationship with somebody on the island, like I said before he may have something to do with Alex, and his connection to the island is via the Black rock ship.
ive just watched all of season 4 again (the constant has got to be the best so far) and egg town has really baffled me! iv mentioned before about Jack saying Kate helped out on the plane crash and that Jack said it crashed on an island, so whats with the plane in the ocean that widmore puit there, why hasnt no one mentioned that during the trial? also, who are the other two survivors? Jack mentions there was 8, we know who the ocianic 6 are! can some one help please!!!
Trooper:
the Oceanic 8 probably never existed. It’s got to be a cover up story for the outside world. Who those extra two might have been is irrelevant since there are only six anyway. Jack said in the court that they landed in the water and only 8 made it to some island, thanks to Kate, were they were lucky to survive. I suppose he is talking about some other little island somewhere in the ocean which the freighter just happened to come by so no one will ever come to find the LOST island…
Ever since we saw Jins tombstone at the end of episode 4.07 I realised that the rest of the world believes that everyone on that plane died, except for the Oceanic 6. They are sworn to lie about the whole thing. I can only guess that the rest of the survivors are still on the island, maybe they are held captive there or something.
Can’t wait to see how it all unfolds…
Re the fact that no one mentions the fact the plane is at the bottom of the ocean, it would be impossible for anyone to account for all (how many were there, 300-odd?) passengers on the plane if it was found at the bottom of the sea. They can only assume that from the pictures taken of it in the ocean that they all perished with it. Unless they actually brought up the plane and counted all the bodies, it’s impossible to say they all died. Some bodies surely would have floated away from the plane once it crashed into the ocean.
Having said this, if it can’t be proved that all the passengers died, then it could be possible that 8 survived like the Oceanic 6 said it did.
What I’m basically trying to say is that unless the bodies of the Oceanic 6 were recovered from the crash, then it can’t be proven that they all died. I think the media made an assumption
Kat -
R u talking about the Media in Lost or just all the attention the show gets on sites like this or even ABC.com?
I think you might be over thinking it a bit. With some of these things I think you just have to assume or suspend your disbelief a bit. I know thats hard with this show but things like that will make you crazy……
A few post back someone noticed a girl with the same bracelet as Naomi. How did you pick up on that? I would have had to slow motion the entire scene. Good pick up. Cant wait to see how widmore is involved. What kinda of bothers me is in the begining i thought Locke was a show changing character a season ago I thought Ben was going to be this show changing character. Now widmore is that guy it seems. Who will it be next?
Alright, there’s so much I want to say here and the first is most info I get is from lostpedia.com
I’ve recently been looking at stuff involving Widmore/DHARMA and have found out that Widmore Corp. is connected to many businesses, including the Hanso Foundation. Alvar Hanso-the founder- has sponsered DHARMA and that all leads to the fact that Charles Widmore knows about the island. He bought that journal from the Black Rock because he is desperate to get his hands on anything he can that has to do with the island.
I read (lostpedia) that Jin’s tombstone said in Korean that he died Sept. 22nd, 2004, which is the day of the crash. My theory is that he and the everyone except the Oceanic 6 had to stay on the island. (Claire wanted to let Aaron lead a normal life and asked Kate to take care of him while she had to remain on island) Sun was crying because she regrets leaving him behind, not that he is dead.
As for whom shot Karl and Danielle Rousseau, I think it’s Richard and Others. Ben intended only for Alex to go to the Temple, so when Karl and Danielle just decided that they were going to, Ben had to do something to stop them.
Charles Widmore has to know Ben and a lot about him. Miles has a picture of him when he claims to never have been off the island. Miles knows that Ben has access to a LOT of money, and Ben is willing to pay that so Widmore thinks he’s dead. And Miles is willing to lie to his boss and ‘take care’ of Charlotte to get this money.
That’s all for now!
i really hope the lost writers do an episode about Rousseau because i reli think it wud be interesting to see what sort of illness her crew got and how ben got Alex….maybe Rousseau survives the gun shot woundes trys getting alex back from whoever shot them and then dies at the end of the episode kinda like the episode when tht woman and spanish guy (cant member their names) got killed bcos of the spider bites
Okay, I take back what I said about Richard killing Karl and Danielle because on LOSTPEDIA there’s an update to this scoop and there’s a season for preview and it has Keamy about to kill Alex and he says into a walkie talkie “I’m gonna kill your daughter”
That was a bit of a surprise alright! I thought it was the others killing karl and danielle because ben wanted them out of alexs life. Pretty sad the way she died, i really felt for Ben. (never thought i’d say that)
In reply to kristen’s post (above) about Jin being left behind on the island – why was he in the episode, then? I was really confused by that (and it’s interesting to know what his tombstone said) but wasn’t the whole twist with that episode the fact that Jin came rushing to the hospital with the big panda toy while Sun was giving birth, only for it to turn out that he was making a courtesy visit to some big businessman in the next room who had just become a grandfather. And he told the nurse he had “only been married a few months”??!!? It was Jin, but not as we know him…THAT was weird!
Helen, the THING with Jin can be explained as a flashback. I might be wrong, but probably makers of LOST wanted to confuse us all and showed us flashforward and backward in one episode. Jin was still working for Sun’s father, and was carryinh out orders, and never thought of any island whatsoever. nothing weird for me.
what bothers me is that Ben told Widmore, that he will kill his daughter Penny. what is Desmond going to do about it?
Desmond’s not going to be happy, I’ll assure you of that. Maybe even attempt some revenge of his own…?
Well, yes, I was also rather confused on the flashing sequence of Ji Yeon. What I thought was that they were both flashforwards-but they both thought the other was dead, and Jin remarried. Then a friend at school corrected me. Ah well, I wouldn’t put it past those Lost writers…
The Jin flashback was really irritating because the only purpose it served was to trick us.
Hi, this is the first time i’ve used this website, i think it’s fab. I have a question…
The plane that was staged at the bottom of the ocean, the one that Ben said Charles Widmore had faked. Was it Charles that actually faked it or was it ben, or do we not know?
