Season 4 Episode 1 Recap | The Beginning of the End

hurley and charlieFor all of those that missed the season premier of Lost or aren’t here in the US and haven’t had the opportunity to watch it below is a recap of the major points that went down. If you dont want to know what happend then stop reading now!

Apparently Jack and Kate arent the only ones who make it off the island. There were 6 people that made it off and they are referred to as the Oceanic 6. The 3rd person revealed to have made it off the island is Hurley. Episode 1 opens up with Hurley driving recklessly with cops chasing him. He eventually crashes and is taken into custody. Once taken in, he is in a questioning room where a man is asking what he was running from and shows him a surveillance camera of Hurley seeing something and running out of the store.

The man questioning Hurley then tells him that he knew someone on Oceanic flight 815. He says he was Anna Lucias former partner and asks Hurley if he knew her. Hurley lies and says he never met her (presummably because he doesn’t want to say she was killed). The guy then leaves Hurley alone in the room and Hurley looks up into a mirror which turns into an aquarium looking thing and a man swims up to the glass and touches it and it breaks. I slowed it down and paused it to get a better look, and the man swimming was none other than your beloved Charlie, and he had a message written on his hand that said “They Need You” (more on that in a minute). After this Hurley freaks out and is sent back to the mental institution.

Back to Jack up at the radio tower. George, the guy on the boat, calls Jack back and wants to talk to Naomi. Well Naomi is on the ground dead with a knife in her back thanks to Locke in season 3. Jack turns to look at her but her body is gone. Apparently she wasnt dead and crawled off into the woods.

Flashforward to Hurley in the mental institute. A man is there to see him and says he is an attorney from Oceanic Airlines. Small small talk leads to hm asking Hurley if they are still alive. Hurley freaks out again. Apparently the people that got off the island have left everyone behind and arent saying what happen to them or telling people they didnt make it through the crash.

Back on the island, Desmond makes it back from the Looking Glass and informs them of all that went on down there and that the people on the boat arent who they say they are. They then go to find Jack and warn everyone who went up to the radio tower. On the way, Hurley gets lost in the Jungle because he’s lagging behind and he stumbles upon an old shack. Its a shack we’ve seen before - its Jacobs shack and theirs a light on inside. Hurley approaches the window and looks inside to find a man in a rocking chair in the dark. It’s hard to see but its plainly obvious that its Christian Shepherd (Jacks Dad) sitting there! We then see some ones face pop up in the window but it was such a short flash and it was so close that you can only see his eye. Hurley freaks out and tries to run away and falls down. He opens his eyes and Locke is standing over him. I think the writers want you to think that Locke was in the shack with Jacob but i dont believe it was him. I paused it to get a good look at the face that pops up in the window and it really doesnt look much like Locke - no idea who was in there now.

Meanwhile Kate has gone to find Naomi in the woods wherever she crawled off to. Also, Kate now has the phone that she took from Jack without him knowing. George calls and while talking to Kate she finds Naomi..in a tree who drops down with the knife to Kates throat. She takes the phone, talks to George briefly and then dies from her knife wound. While talking to George she says “Tell my sister I love her”. This kind of stood out to me for some reason and I think that her sister will somehow be incorporated into the show. Either shes someone we’ve already met or someone we will meet.

All of the then losties conviently run into each other in the woods and they have a little speech about who is right about the people on the boat - Jack or Locke. Half of the people side with Jack and the other follow Locke off into the woods back to the Others camp.

Flashfoward again to Hurley in the mental institute. Hes sitting outside painting a picture of an igloo (some kind of reference to the arctic researchers we saw at the end of season 2 I’m guessing). Charlie shows up walking over to him wanting to talk. Hurley freaks out because a dead man is talking to him. After he calms down, we find out that Charlie was in the gas station that we saw Hurley on the survlance camera and this is why he ran away. Charlie tells Hurley that he has to do something and he knows it. Tells him that he is being scared and hiding from what he has to do and that “they need you”.

Hurley gets another visitor as he’s playing basketball in the mental institute. This time its Jack. They start talking and playing a game of HORSE. Jack sucks at basketball and immediately has HO. While playing, Jack asks Hurley is he is going to tell what happened. Hurley says that he’s sorry he went with Locke on that night in the Jungle when everyone chose sides, and that he should have stayed with Jack. He then tells Jack he thinks they should go back. Jack gets mad and says they will never go back. I think he was just mad he sucked at basketball though. Speaking of HO, I read elsewhere that the letters HO showed up multiple times in this episode. There this one where they are playing HORSE, Hurley mentions HO-HOs, and then there was 3rd time where Hurley was being taken in for questioning the leters HO can be seen in the background on a shelf. No idea what these mean or what they are referencing.

Back on the island Jack and Kate are walking and come across the plane wreckage. Talk about how crazy its been on the island since they got there. They then hear a helicopter and see a man parachute on to the island. They go find him and its George, the guy on the phone. He asks are you Jack? and the episode ends. Sorry if I left anything out or its slightly out of order. I’m going from memory.

So Questions that come up from this epsidoe:
1. Why is Christian who is suppose to be dead in Jacobs shack.
2. Who was in there with him
3. Why did only 6 people make it off the island - which ones made it and why
4. Why does Hurley change his mind and say he should have stayed with Jack
5. What changes Jacks mind about needing to go back to the island
6. Whats with all the HO’s
7. Who is Naomi’s sister

What are your thoughts on the episode and these questions presented?

H and O are the 8th and 15th letters of the alphabet.

2

I’ve also been through the scene in Jacob’s shack frame by frame and I have to say that from what I could see, there is absolutely no evidence that it was Jacks dad. I’d be interested to see a screenshot if you have one that is clearer. My TV isn’t the best in the world but as I said, I did go through it frame by frame and it just isn’t that clear.

Also, what is HORSE? For the benefit of us British viewers, could you explain it. I doubt the creators would have hidden a clue in something that isn’t universally understood like HORSE but I agree, the HO does crop up multiple times so perhaps the letters are relevent.

3

HORSE is basketball game where you have to take a shot and if you get it in the next person has to take his shot from where you were standing and if you miss you get a letter ie. H than O than R and so on, the person who gets the whole 5 letters is the loser! Still that doesnt answer the questions about HO in the rest of the episode!

4

The Ho’s that you mentioned are on three separate occasions. So… HO, HO, HO. Merry x-mas losties, yer gettin’ rescued.

5

The thing that really stood out to me was this: when Hurley was trying to convince Jack to go back he said ‘he wants us to go back’!!! Who is ‘he’? Locke? Jacob? God? Jack’s dad, even. I watched the last episode of series 3 yesterday and he is referred to as being alive in the flash forwards when Jack goes to get medication. He says his father wrote the prescription and, later, when he’s being questioned about his drinking habits he invites the man to check out his dad’s. When first watching that, obviously it seemed to make perfect sense because we thought it was before the island but it wasn’t, so how does he come back and get accepted as being alive as well? Also, I suspect that Christian Shepherd may be the person in the coffin because it would make sense for Jack to be the only person there and that his dad’s proper death would make Jack wish to return to the place which seems to nurture recovery so well. That’s just a feeling though.

6

who are the 6 characters that make it back of the island! i really want to know please tell me my email is cutekidd@hotmail.co.uk

7

No proper interpretation from my side, just to repeat my gratitude

8

About the 6 who made it off the island jack, kate, hurley, the person in the coffin that jack went to visit (neither friend or family) - who’s in there? What did they do that jack doesn’t want hurley to mention to anyone? Now jack doesn’t want to go back to the island. When jack is stealing oxycodone at the hospital he tells the other dr that if he is drunker than his dad… the point is he mentions his dad in the present tense - that he is in the hospital; still alive??

9

I don’t think that the person in the coffin is Jacks dad. Isobel (above comment) mentions that if it was Jack’s dad it would make sense why nobody turned up for the funeral. This is true but it wouldn’t make sense as to why Jack expected Kate to go. He was kind of surprised when he asked her why she didn’t go and she said ‘why would I?’. I think that the person in the coffin is either Ben or Juliet, both of whom were in a posotion to be rescued as far as we know at the end of Season 4 Episode 1. Jack is so upset because the death of either if these 2 people represents the death of the last chance to get back to the island.

10

Chris, it is Christian Shepherd in Jacobs cabin sitting in the rocking chair. One of the cast has said this as being true. I dont necessarily think that it was actually Jacks dad though. I think it is Jacob and he takes a different form for whoever is looking at him. Though Hurley hasnt ever seen Jack’s dad as far as we know. I’ll post the interview that reveals it was Jack’s dad sitting there.

11

Hi guys. I posted on completely lost - bill ervolinos site - in more details. But itd defintiely Christian Shepherd, cos the actor who plays him (John Terry) was listed in the credits! But I agree, it may not be Christian - but Jacob, or smokey, or the island - or all 3!

Also, this may be lame but could the HOs as well as being the 8th and 15th (from the numbers) mean Hurley Off. Just referring to the fact we now know Hurley gets off as well as Kate and Jack? Just my theory. Like reading poetry, none of this stuff may be there or intentional, but good poetry, like good LOST gives us the options to find what we wish!

Also in day time it must be Christmas soon in Lost, the crashed September and they are there like 90 days or something so maybe it is HO HO HO. And Santas about to crash on the island too!

12

well i think its pritty odvios that its sawyer in the coffin because hese not a friend or family hes not popular and hes a main charicter

13

Jack goes back because his obsession with returning to the island keeps him tethered mentally and emotionally to 2004 when the plane went down….when his father been alive just 12 or 13 weeks before his life changing satellite phone call to Naomi’s freighter. I state this skeptically because he did have a prescription pad with his father’s name on it….something that one might not just find lying around three years later. Regarding Kate, the only alternative scenario (outside of the various time-related theories) I can think of is that Richard (remember, he seems to be able to make just about anything happen) was able to grant her immunity or have ‘new evidence’ emerge which exonerated her in exchange for her keeping he mouth shut about the island. She and Jack start anew after being rescued, but Jack carries a huge weight on his shoulders. He is haunted by the ghosts of those who died as a result of his phone call, including Juliet. He understands the island’s importance and his place on it. He is obsessed with finding his way back. This being the case, there is no room in his heart and mind for Kate. Consequently, she leaves him and moves on. This would explain why they live in the same city, had a ‘usual place’ at the airport, etc. When Kate mentions the “….he will wonder where I am” she could be talking about a new boyfriend or husband in her life, or she could be talking about her three-year old son whose biological father is Sawyer. Yes, the kid would be young, but entirely old enough to notice their mom not being at home.

John Latham (or Lantham) was Michael. This would explain the part in the obituary which mentions him being survived by a teenage son. He and Walt did indeed make it away from the island, but like the other survivors who Richard allowed to leave, Michael had made a promise to Ben to assume this new identity and to speak to no one about the island or what had happened there. Like Jack, Michael could never really leave the island mentally, and he also carried the guilt of killing fellow passengers and selling out the rest of them to get off the island. He sees Jack on the news after he is rescued and secretly contacts him. Jack still despises him for what he did, be he also now identifies with him. John (a.k.a. Michael) has a son to protect and for fear of Richard doing something to him he refuses to help Jack get back to the island, so Jack knows he has to go it alone. Still though, he secretly holds out hope that Michael will change his mind. Once Jack reads the obituary though, he knows that there is no hope of this happening, causing him to try and commit suicide.
So the person in the coffin is michael and jack wants to get bak because of guilt for leaving the rest of the losties to fight.

14

if the man in the coffin is Michael…why Walt didn’t come to the funeral? i came across that there’s a man at the funeral tells jack that nobody comes (last episode)

15

Hello friends,
I was just thinking about the six of those who made of the island, could there seat numbers be 4,8,15,16,23,42 and those might me Jack ,Kate ,Hurley & rest 3’s numbers ?

Also as brought out in earlier posts all these number add upto 108 and the number 108 is a very sacred number in Hindu religion [as many of would already know].Like we utter God’s mantras 108 times or in multiples of 108.Also it is directly related the Symbol “AUM” & many other things like that…
You might wanna know more about so just check following wiki link & more related links are given there.

16

hi, how come when charlie came up and spoke 2 hurley in the mental institute another guy was able to see charlie?

also at the end of series 3 jack wants to go back to the island, when he talks with Kate about this he has a full beard, While playing HORSE with hurley he mensions growing 1

17

Does anybody remember Desmond telling Charlie his vision of Charlies real death last season? Desmond tells Charlie he saw Claire and her baby getting into a rescue helicopter after Charlie had flipped the switch and drowned. Knowing Claire and baby would be rescued gave Charlie the courage to accept his death. So if if Claire and baby made it off the island and they were included in the oceanic 6, then with Kate, Jack and Hurley thats 5 plus the mysterious man in the coffin. Any thoughts?

18

Got to this after reading Amits advice on 108.

In Homer’s Odyssey (HO?), the number of suitors coveting Penelope (Penny), wife of Odysseus.

Check it out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odyssey

Can’t say I quite have the intellect to work out the meaning, but I’m sure some of you out there can work it out.

19

ill tell u what HO means…

H is the 8th letter of the alphabets…

O is the 15th letter of the alphabets…

8 and 15….

one of the damn numbers!

hehe

cool huh?

20

Hey, i’ve just been reading up on the comments and i find it interesting that the letters ‘HO’ and that they are the 8th and 15th letters in the alpabet. These are also seen in the number combination 4,8,15,16,23,42. As ‘HO’ is mentioned for the first time when Jack and Hurley are together it can suggest that these numbers represent Jack and Huryley, and therefore we can associate each of these numbers with a character from the island.

Also, if you think back to the end of Series 1 when the hatch is opened for the first time, the hatch had the number combination on it, im not exaclty sure who was there when the hatch was opened but i remember Locke,Hurley, Jack, Kate, and therefore if my theory is correct each one of them is linked to the numbers and each one of them escaped.

21

wats the crack!!!!i just watched lost dare now and i paused it wen hurley looks in the window. From wat i can see it looks like Jack,s dad!!!!not for certain do!!!!dnt no if any1 else saw it but wen hurley was speeding in the car a person on a corner shop looks at the chase and its sawyer!!!!check it up!!!so he got of the island aswell!!!!!!!

22

If H and 0 represent the 8th and 15th letters of the alphabet then they may well represent the survivors of the flight ‘Oceanic 815′. Its interesting that whenever we see the H and O we are associated with those who have seemingly got off the island in some way..

23

I liked the idea that the numbers represented the people that got off the island, but i looked into it a little deeper and found that Anna Lucia was in seat 42. I dont think she will be getting off the island considering shes been shot and buried.

24

hey,
what about jack saying to hurley: “i´m thinking to grow my beard” or something like that. does it means, that jack´s suicide try (last episode of season 3) is after jacks and hurleys basektball game?

25

Ashcot - yes this is prior to that. Jack does not want to go back when talking to Hurley, at the end of season 3 hes trying to find his way back.

26

Michael and Walt leave the island but I thought that they would return. In an interview I believe he said that almost a entire episode would involve him and Walt entirely. So they might not be any of the ones of the Oceanic 6. Did anyone else see Sawyer in the chase sequence as one of the previous posters said they saw (standing on a corner)? Thoughts?

27

Why did we forget to question who’s funeral Jack went to? Or did I miss that somewhere? Perhaps when Ben said that if they called the boat that everyone on the island would be killed really referred to each would be killed if they went back…? Maybe their time was up and once they left the island, they would eventually one by one die like they should’ve from the plane crash???? Or maybe they just want to go back due to the guilt of leaving others behind? However, who was in the coffin?? OH, and one more thing…doesn’t anyone remember Walt and his dad leaving the island? Ben had let them leave in exchange for letting jack, kate and sawyer getting captured…..I think that was the reason, however, they showed Walt and his dad on a boat leaving the island….so why was he back telling Locke to get out of the ditch??

28

I laughed out loud at the Ho being a reference to Christmas….BUT… Santa is an anagram for Satan and anagrams run rampant in this show. Also the Oceanic Man offering Hurley an “upgrade” in the mental hospital is Matthew Abaddon - Abaddon’s meaning in Hebrew is something like Angel from the Abyss and also Detruction or place of destruction. Perhaps Ben is right and all will be destroyed like an armageddon of sorts. Perhaps deals will be made by the oceanic six to save themselves.

Desmond’s visions have been wrong before (Penny was not the one who parachuted).. Perhaps Claire and baby Aaron do NOT make it off the island.

As far as Christian Sheppard being “alive” after the resue, most trained hospital, law enforcement, etc people are trained not to confront those who seem dilusional or the like. Jack’s “thinks” his father is alive and they simply do not press the issue because he is drunk or high or both.

29

Good recap. We think that “Tell my sister I love her” was a code for something else, since it did seem so random. Maybe “we’re compromised, but go ahead and come to the island.”

30

Who’s in the casket that Jack visitied at the funeral home?

31

I am not as knowledgable as many of you about Lost history. But, I seem to remember that Jack’s reason for being on the flight was to bring his father’s body back from Australia where he had died. Is my memory slipping?

32

As a quick reminder, many people are looking for seat numbers to represent the survivors, but don’t forget plane seats are numbered by row and letter across. So, for instance, Ana Lucia was in 42F.

So… a number alone is not enough to identify someone, although we can assume that there were important people in each of the rows mentioned by the numbers.

33

One of the people who does make sense in the coffin is locke. Has anyone else seen saywer in the chase sequence?

34

I bet Naomi’s sister is Sayiid’s long lost love…! And the person in the coffin must be Ben or Locke…neither friend nor family, yet someone Jack respected enough to show up.

35

I’ve been through the chase sequence frame by frame and unless I’m blind, Saywer is definitely nowhere to be seen.

36

I don’t think Jack has changed his mind about going back to the island, I think that his game of horse with hurley occurs before his conversation with Kate that we saw at the end of last season. He tells Hurley he’s thinking of growing a beard; when he was talking to Kate at the edge of the runway, he has a beard. I think what we have seen this season occurs before the last scene in the last episode of last season. But, that’s just my thought………

37

Does anyone have any idea why the guy parachuted out of the helicopter instead of just having it land and drop him off? Is there a reason it doesn’t land? Did I miss a point somewhere? Thanks!

38

Visions, visions, visions….. jeez!! Notice how only Hurley is having them, and at the end of the ‘past, or future’ scenes, it goes back to Hurley, utilsing that well known look on his face that says ‘i’ve just had a dream, or a vision, etc etc etc!!

39

HO HAS A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT MEANINGS. H IS THE 8TH LETTER N 0 IS THE 15TH LETTER IN THE ALPHABET. MEANING FLIGHT 815. ALSO HO IS THE CHEMICAL ELEMENT HOLMIUM WHICH IS USED IN CREATING MAN MADE MAGNETIC FIELDS.
IF THAT HELPS IN ANY WAY!!!!

40

Wow..nice points Renee - Thanks!

41

UR WELCOME,
N REMEMBER CHRISTIAN WHO WAS/IS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD WAS MENTIONED BY JACK IN HIS FLASH FORWARD “GO GET MY DAD THEN N WE’LL SEE WHO’S DRUNKER”. DEAD BUT STILL ALIVE IN THE FUTURE? I THINK THAT LOCKS DAD MAY HAV BEEN THE EYE IN THE SHACK WITH CHRISTIAN, THEY ARE BOTH SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD, WHY NOT? MAYBE EVEN CHARLIE?
I HAV SO MANY QUESTIONS MYSELF. LIKE HOW ARE THE PEOPLE (GOERGE N THE OTHERS) PARACHUTING ONTO THE ISLAND WHEN THEY SAID THEY WERE ON A BOAT, UNLESS IT’S A REALLY BIG BOAT WITH A HELICOPTER LANDING AREA? OR IT MIGHT MEAN NOTHING.
WHY DOES JACK CHANGE HIS MIND, HE TOLD KATE THEY HAV TO GO BACK, BUT THEN REFUSED TO WHEN TALKN TO HURLY BOUT IT. WHO WAS THE GUY THAT CLAIMED TO BE SOME1 HE OVBIOUSLY WASNT, HE VISITED HURLY N HIS NAME WAS MATTHEW ABBADON. ABBADON IS HEBREW FOR THE DESTROYER!
WHY DOESNT CHARLIE LOOK THE SAME AS HE DID WHEN HE DIED? IN HURLY’S VISIONS IF THAT WHAT THEY WERE HE WAS CLEAN SHAVEN N ALL N WHY DID HE CALL HURLY HUGO, HE NEVER CALLED HIM BY THAT NAME? WAS THAT EVEN CHARLIE?TO BE HONEST IM NOT SO SURE CHARLIE IS DEAD, MKAILL (HOW EVA U SPEL IT) HAS SOME SORT OF GIFT THAT ALSO EFFECTS THE PEOPLE HE KILLS AS WELL AS HIMSELF COMING BACK TO LIFE OVER N OVER AGAIN. HAS HURLY GOT A GIFT ASWELL? HE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO MAKE THINGS DISSAPEAR BY CLOSING HIS EYES N COUNTN N HOW DID HE SO EASILY COME ACROSS THE SHACK WHEN BEN SAID JACOB SUMMONS YOU RATHER THEN U JUST STUBBLING ACROSS HIM. JACOB ASKED LOCK FOR HELP IS HE NOW SEEKN HELP FROM HURLY?
WELL I WILL LEAVE IT AT THAT I COULD GO ON FOR HOURS. IF U CAN SHED ANY LIGHT ON MY QUESTIONS OR THEORIES PLEASE DO, IM ADDICTED!

42

Great stuff here, all. But I just have to say, Mark, Santa is not an anagram for Satan. That is ridiculous.

Love the HO being 815 and that it also referring to the magnetic field. I think Ben is in the box. If you remember, the coffin was small (neither Sawyer or Locke are small) and in my mind Ben was neither a friend or family member, but was Jack’s source to all that the island was about. Without him, he felt he had lost (LOST) his only hope to understand and get back. Plus, it seemed that if by leaving, Ben’s tumor would surely return and end his life.

Didn’t Jack’s dad die before he even left Australia? And wasn’t his body on the plane — that’s why Jack was there, to take home his father’s remains?

43

UM REMEMBER Jack’s dad’s body disapears from the coffin after the crash. Maybe it was like posessed- either way i think thats kinda important- his body is gone then shows up in the cabin of some crazy ghost man, sitting in a chair…..and Walt showed up as some spiritual guidance from the island- nothing more- i believe they could have used Shannon or any other random person to get Locke out of the ditch.

44

There is a guy standing on a corner (to the right of an ugly green building)right after hurley chashes. 2 people are close behind him. with the program im using, i cant see the face very well but the posture and hair look like sawyer. soemone get a good quality video and check if its sawyers face.

45

Oh, please let us know if Sawyer got off safely????? Loving the first episode of Season 4 and can’t wait for episode 2 but I’m soooo disappointed this Season will be shorter than the first 3, everyone else feel the same?

46

I thought Jack was a doctor/hero? Naomi has a knife sticking out of her back but Jack doesnt feel the need to administer help.
Also we already knew Ben somehow knows everything about everyone on the island. So when Locke was just about to shoot Ben it wasnt exactly a revelation that he knew stuff about the parachute girl. Gaps are really starting to appear. I though episode 2 was really weak.

47

I think Charlie is indeed alive, for 2 reasons: 1st, the porthole which Mikhail blowed in the ‘Looking glass’ was wide enough for Charlie to escape through it. As he was able to swin down to the station, he could easily swim up back. The second reason was already mentioned here: Another guy in the mental institution have also seen Charlie, suggesting it is not another Hurley’s allucinations. So, if Charlie did not die there, its likely that Claire and Aaron did not escape from the Island.

‘Mark from Ithaca’, Desmond’s vision have not failed about the person who parachuted in the island. What he saw in his visions was a picture of him with Penny, not Penny herself. And Naomi indeed brought with her a photography of Desmond and Penny. So, the visions were precisely correct, Desmond’s interpretation of it was not.

We already know by episode 2 Naomi doesnt have a sister, that was a code.

I loved the observations that H and O represents 8 and 15!

It is curious that, although Hurley has choosen stay with Locke’s group, he also got out of the Island.

Adam Mc Ginty: remember that, when the plane crashed on the Island, Ben sent Ethan to get a list of the passengers? That was how they got the name of the survivors. He probably has a source for getting information about people, given he know their names. That is not likely the case for the people in Naomi’s boat, so, it was a surprise to me that he knew everything about them and I believe he indeed has an spy there. More than that, I believe this is Charlotte. When he shoot her in episode 2, he did it right in the chest. I think he knew she was wearing a bullet proof vest.

I think the guy in the chair was Jack’s father, but not necessarily alive. It could be just his body, which disappeared from the coffin after the plane crashed. I was thinking that the other man in Jacob’s shack was Locke, but I changed my mind after seeing in episode 2 how surprise he got when Hurley mentioned the place.

48

One more thing: I took this from wikipedia, the Homer’s Odissey page indicated by dogsy:

“The Odyssey begins ‘in medias res’, meaning that the action begins in the middle of the plot, and that prior events are described through flashbacks or storytelling. This device is imitated by later authors of literary epics, e.g. Virgil in the Aeneid, as well as modern poets such as Alexander Pope in the mock-epic/ mock-heroic “The Rape Of The Lock.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odyssey

49

answer to question seven is that there is no sister, tell my sister i love her is a code saying that there is someone with a gun to my head …

50

The numbers are a mathematical equation representing the amount of time left before the human race extinguishes itself. Dharmas purpose on the island was to use it as a research facility to manipulate enviromental factors to prolong the time left.

51

Lolo, the equation you are referring to is the Valenzetti equation. More details in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Troup_%28Lost%29#The_Valenzetti_Equation

As for the coffin, i do believe its Ben since Kate does not react very well when Jack asks her if she’d been to the funeral “why would i go to the funeral?!”. Its ridiculous it’s Sawyer, since Kate would have gone of course.

I can’t wait to see the developments of this season! I heard that Libby would play an important role in season 3 but we didnt see her anywhere. Maybe she will be included this season?

52

I think the person in the coffin is actually Michael as it says on the obituary he is from new york and is survived by a son (Walt). Sayid strikes a deal with Ben and makes it off the island next becoming another member of the oceanic 6.

53

I read somewhere that naomi’s saying ; tell my sister I lover her’, is code language for I’m dying right now…

54

Maybe nonsense but doesn’t horse also mean heroine, referring to charlie or the smuggled goods in other seasons???

55

Can anyone tell me what episode that chase is in? With Sawyer and Hugo

56

cnt wait to watch.. south africa’s first episode aires tonight..
