A Tale of Two Cities Complete Recap

At long last season 3 episode 1 has been shown. Entitled “A Tale of Two Cities”, it definetly didnt dissapoint. Many things have now been answered that many people have been waiting months to find out since the season 2 finale, and below is a quick summary of the entire show.

Opening scene began with Juliet in a book club meeting in what seemed like an off the island setting back in the real world. All of a sudden there is an earthquake, after which everyone in the neighborhood ran outside to see what was happening. This is where the show immediately picks up. You see Henry Gale come out of his house, Ethan shows up as well as Goodwin (all of which are others on the island). They look up and see a plane crashing and break apart which was flight 815 with the Losties on it.

This means that they have a highly civilized setting right there on the island with houses, electricity, running water and every thing else.

Henry Gale tells Goodwin and Ethan to go to the crash site and pretend to be a survivor and collect as much information about the survivors that he can.

Cutting away from that, the next scene is a flashback for Jack which shows him watching his wife flirt with another man out in public. This then cuts back to real time with Jack being locked inside of a cell with a glass wall with no way out.

What has happened to Kate is revealed next as she is on the floor in the shower and is awaken by Zeke (the Other with the beard). He tells her to take a shower and then put a dress that he has provided. Once this is done she is taken down to the beach where Henry Gale is waiting for her with a breakfast meal set up. He tells her to put on cuffs while she asks why he is doing all of this. He tells her he wants to give her something to feel civalized and remember because the next 2 weeks were going to be very uncomfortable.

Sawyer is then shown inside a cell outside with another cell across from him with a young man inside named Carl. Who this Carl guy is is never revealed through out the show. Carl picks his lock and then lets Sawyer out and tells him to run. Juliet catches Sawyer and shoots him with a dart that electricutes him and takes him down. He is then dragged back to his cell where a bloody Carl has also been caught and made to appologize for involving Sawyer in the escape.

More flashbacks from Jack occur where the reasoning for his divorce begins to be revealed. Jack finds out that she is cheating on him with another man and is eventually led to believe it is his dad, Cristian who is the man that she is with.

Back to Jacks cell, Juliet tries to bring him food but he attacks her and tries to escape. He tries to open a hatch door which floods the place with water. Juliet is able to get him to push an emergency button which stops the flooding.

Back outside to Sawyer’s cell, Kate is led out and is now placed in the cell that Carl was formerlly being held in. He has now been dragged off somewhere else by the Others.

Switching back to Jack, he is told by Juilet that they are in an underwater facility called the Hydra. This is another hatch that was formerlly owned by Dharma. She admits that they are all what is left of the Dharma inniative but they do not have the same beliefs that originally they began with.

Juilet has a file with everything about Jack’s life in it including where he went to school, his occupation, and information about his wife, and tell him that Sarah is very happy in life without him.

The show ended with Juliet leaving Jack’s cell and she see’s Henry Gale standing there waiting. He tells her that she did good work in there and give his little half smile. Juliet replies by saying “Thanks Ben”.

So that is a quick summary of everything that happened in A Tale of Two Cities. Please leave your comments on what you think about all these events and where you think they will lead to. Next week’s episode looks even better than this one!

What do you think of the red raw cuff marks on Kate’s hands and that look on her face as she was led into her cell.

3

In your fourth paragraph, did you mean Henry Gale sent "Goodwin" and Ethan to the crash sites to investigate? I’m in another country so I haven’t seen the episode, but I didn’t think Desmond was an "other."

Hey Wang, I will clarify about the 4th paragraph a little bit for you and about Desmond.

In the beginning of the episode it showed a woman (you later find out her name is Juliet) getting up for the morning and doing her morning routine. It showed her using running water and cooking….actually burning her muffins in the morning. Next there was a knock at the door and it was one of the memebers of a book club in which Juliet was hosting at her house.
It then cuts to a scene where the book club memebers are all sitting in Juliet’s house discussing Juliet’s book choice. There was one man who didn’t like the book and Juliet and the man began to argue about the book. The book was Carrie by Stephan King. (I think the only signifigance in that is to say that Stephan King wrote the book "Bad Twin". If you don’t know, it’s a book that touches on the Hanso Foundation and the Darhma Inititive.) While they were argueing there was an "earthquake", or what seemed like one, and everyone went outside to see what happened.
The next scene is when everyone is outside and Henry Gale, Goodwin, and Ethan run outside as well from their homes to see what the tremor was. Everyone looks up to see fligt 815 just beginning to break up. Henry then tells Ethan and Goodwin to go to the tail and head section to gather names and act as a survivor.
Then the camera angle pans out to show a civilized tiny city in which they live. This city is on the island. That means that their huts and rough clothes are all a charade just to make the survivors of flight 815 think they were uncivilized.

I hope I explained it a little better. If you got anymore questions just ask and I will respond as soon as possible.
But just try to get your hands on a copy of the episode because there are alot of tiny details that are important that a written recap can’t tell. Maybe there will be an encore showing you can catch or you can download it from iTunes.

I forgot to say something else Wang. No Desmond is not an other. His boat crashed on the island after a storm and became an extra member of the Darhma Inititive. In the first season he ran away, but in the second season he came back because he couldn’t sale off the island. I believe he was kept in the dark about the true objective of the Darhma Initivive. So I don’t think he could be catagotized as an "other" since he wasn’t an original member of Darhma and he doesn’t know everything about what Darhma is doing.

6

Please excuse the spelling error in my last post. I meant to type SAIL, not SALE. Stupid mistake.

7

Did anybody notice how Juliet put in the Talking Heads Speaking In Tongues album/CD, but when she hit play that’s not the music she/we heard?

A significant clue, a production oversight, or an insignificant easter egg like the logo on the sharks’ tale?

My guess is the first. Thoughts?

8

After the little shakin at the beginning of season 3 ep.1 they all ran out and automatically looked up into the sky…..kinda weird i find…

Anything??

and BAD TWIN is written by Gary Troup, not Steven King..

9

Gary Troup is just a Pseudonym for the show. The actual real life book was written by king.

10

K_Michel,
The book was actually written by King. Gary Troup isn’t real. If you switch his name around it spells Purgatory. Gary Troup is an alias created by King and the writers of Lost. They even made up his backstory about how this was the last book he wrote before he disappeared after getting on flight 815 from Sydney to California. He even has a previous made up book called the Valenzetti Equation which is supposed to explain what the numbes 4 8 16 16 23 42 mean. Just do me a favor and read up about an issue before you go poppin off and try to contradict what someone else says.

P.S. if you rewatch the episode 1, the reason why they automatically look up IS BECAUSE THEY HEAR A SOUND COMING FROM THE SKY! DUH! If you heard a sound coming from above you, I don’t think you would look down. No conspiracy in your claim, it’s just simple common sense the "others" displayed.

The scene with Jin buying a panda was a FLASHBACK NOT A FLASHFORWARD!
