This is one of the best theories I’ve ever seen about ABC’s Lost. It’s a long read but well worth it.
here is a quick summarization for the lazy, but i encourage you to read it all:
The Island is the plan for the end of the world and the plane crash never actually happened. Instead the plan was captured by this magnetic field, brought to the island and everyone was cryogenically frozen (cue austin powers) and the crash was staged..
Meet Hans Oersted:
Hans O. discovered electromagnetism in 1820.
In 1999 the ‘Oersted’ satellite was launched with the purpose of charting Earth’s magnetic field. The findings led scientists to believe that there might be a polar reversal imminent, the effects of which could be cataclysmic: if Earth were to lose its magnetosphere, it would be vulnerable to massive radiation from the space/sun. The satellite also revealed an anomaly in the magnetic field under South Africa; it is pointing the opposite direction from the rest of the Earth’s field and has been growing for hundreds of years. Please Google this info. A similar idea was also used in the film ‘The Core’.
Meet Hannes Alfvén:
His contribution to science – mainly in the field of electromagnetism – revolutionized how scientists view the universe, winning a Nobel Prize on the way. He spoke English, German, French, Russian, and some Spanish and Chinese; and studied oriental philosophy and religion. He spent time in the Fiji Islands. He was fascinated by the “green flash” – a phenomenon that sometimes occurs at sunset. By no coincidence (Green Lantern and Flash comic):
He also wrote fiction: The Great Computer: A Vision (1968) telling the story of computers taking over the world. Google “Hannes Alfvén”.
Alfvén plus Hans O. equals Alvar Hanso.
The above outlines the reason for – and a means to control – the island…
Scientists, fearing the cataclysmic events of a polar reversal, prepared an environment for the survival of the human race. They either directly or indirectly engineered the kind of people who would make up a community fit for survival and propagation of a new world. In the main, this means characters without father/mother figures; and/or characters with skills for survival: a doctor, an engineer, a survivalist, a mercenary; and characters of sufficiently varied genetic background: african, caucasian, asian, etc. to ensure a healthy gene pool for generations.
Then on an island which already had a massive natural source of electromagnetism, they constructed an artificial magnetosphere, alluded to in Walt’s/Hurley’s comic:
to repel the deadly cosmic rays that Earth’s magnetosphere used to repel. The hope was that the community could thrive, grow and, eventually, repopulate/recover the world.
The Dharma Initiative under Alvar Hanso (if both of these thing exist in the Lost reality – much of the Orientation film is red herrings for the ‘survivors’) used a technology based on remote viewing and electromagnetism to power this magnetosphere and to influence the lives of the future island candidates. As stated in another of my posts: every strange (and a lot of mundane) occurrences in Lost can be attributed to electromagnetism as wielded by the collective consciousness on the island (see “Enlightenment Theory”). When all the candidates were in place, i.e. on the plane, the collective consciousness knocked everyone out, brought it down, cryogenically preserved them, dismantled the plane (placing enough debris in the ocean to ensure an “everybody dead” verdict); years later, some plane debris was placed on the beach with the passengers and the scene was set to give the illusion that they had JUST crashed. Then the collective consciousness woke them up.
The joke/password about the snowmen is an allusion to being cryogenically frozen.
The collective consciousness is that group of scientists that became so totally absorbed into remote viewing and electromagnetism that they now operate on frequencies of electromagnetism (covering everything from light to sound) only. They can read minds as well as manipulate iron and other conductive material. Claire wondered why there was not one comb or hairbrush on the entire plane; the reason: the slight electrostatic charges that hair brushing creates is interference for the collective consciousness.
Much of the Orientation film and what Desmond says is false and purely to ensure that our heroes press those bloody buttons every 108 minutes. The purpose is threefold: to provide a focus for the community – a reason to go on and something ‘meaningful’ that goes beyond rational decision-making; secondly, to protect the hatch/power-supply/scientists behind the concrete; and, thirdly, to download the information from the Oersted satellite as it orbits the Earth every 108 minutes (please Google this) to get the latest on the magnetic poles.

The collective consciousness messed with this bird’s navigation (based on magnetism – birds have magnetite in their beaks).
Sayid tells Jack that either the compass is wrong or North has moved. In fact, North has moved.
Walt seems to become a knife-throwing expert. He isn’t. The metal knife was guided by the collective consciousness in an attempt to bring him closer to Locke, who is the island’s most faithful servant.
The presence of this ship is an indication that this island has always been known as a source of great magnetic power (the word “magnet” comes from “Magnesia” the land where the first black rock with powers of attraction was found). The location of this ship is an indication of the island’s volcanic past – pushing the island higher – the ship is now inland. (Lava cools to form basalt; at the point basalt solidifies it takes on the same magnetic field as the surrounding location, thus providing information of the magnetic field’s past.)
BF Skinner’s dubious theories form the basis for the methods used by collective consciousness to socially engineer this ‘utopia’. They are the voices in the trees, they are the visions, they are the black fog (metal in a magnetic field), the monster (mechanical, but designed to embody each survivor’s personal fear). They use every psychological trick in his books to manipulate the survivors into forming a stable long-lasting community ON the island; and their means to this end are extensive.
The two images above are an explicit example of how the influence of the Dharma’s collective consciousness has pervaded in the survivors’ lives: notice the octagonal ceiling in both shots; and the metal balls in the second scene.
The opening shot of most episodes – the eye – establishes that this episodes main character will perceive what the collective consciousness wishes to show them. In this episode, Boone has an epiphanies vision courtesy of the collective consciousness and is later murdered with a falling plane!
Locke can walk now. Locke has no feeling in his legs. Locke’s ability to walk is based on the collective consciousness’ will. It makes him obedient. This level of obedience may be required of all the survivors eventually. His legs move because the collective consciousness allows those tiny electronic impulses from his brain via the spine to get through to muscles in his legs.
To summarize: our heroes never actually crashed; they are the future of mankind – the survivors of a cataclysmic polar event of which they are unaware; they are on the island to survive, procreate and repopulate the Earth. They are unaware of this plan which is sustained by a sophisticated collective consciousness and a group of scientists using electromagnetic power, and psychological techniques of reward and punishment.
More Notes
Some attempts at answers:
The polar bears are on the island because they think it’s the North Pole. And so does Sayid’s compass. Their appearance in the Orientation film is to throw the ‘survivors’ off the scent – as though the bears have been deliberately placed there and have simply escaped – no. But the collective consciousness can still use them – like it used boars.
Other occurrences of the polar bear – comic, cuddly toy – leads me to: we don’t know yet to what extent the ‘survivors’ have been socially engineered. It is possible that Hurley was so influenced by the scientists that he subconsciously sought out a comic with a polar bear and those other themes in it. Michael could have been told that Walt likes polar bears by his mum – or it could just be a coincidence/writer’s joke.
As for Walt’s knife throwing – yes he could have special powers – we don’t yet know how socially engineered these people are… Desmond does call Jack “brother”! But I don’t think Locke has special powers:
[Locke predicts the weather to a minute]
Neither does he need a compass anymore. These are electromagnetic phenomena – the conductivity of the air increases just before precipitation – you can smell rain. His power is a gift from the island…but can be taken back at any time.
Which leads us to: why did the island kill Boone? After freeing him from love of his step sister and making him loyal, the island murders him – why? Possible answer: because Locke, at that time, is the main prize for the island; in his dream he was shown Boone dead – but he still proceeded with the excursion to the plane! The island was testing him and setting him apart from everyone else. By the time they got to the plane, Locke was unable to walk, thus preventing him from climbing to the plane – thus forcing Boone to do it. This was all the collective consciousness’ plan.
…it was Locke that ultimately convinced the group to press the buttons – even Jack.
We haven’t met all the survivors yet – even in the main group. Maybe if there are any missing genetic groups, they are in there. Naveen Andrews is English! [ALERT: politically dangerous ground mixing nationality with ethnic origin - I'm stopping here!!!]
Did Kate remember the crash? Did Boone see his sister dead? Did Jack see his dead father? These people are like those lotto balls bouncing around – but the order of the numbers has already been determined… (apologies for metaphor).
My guess is that there are two groups of Others: one of scientists still on board with the project (boat), and another of scientists who have gone native (those in rags and no metal or sound). The gone-native group (including Ethan) steals babies; they see the project as insidious and rebel against it; they take babies so that the babies can grow up free – without the collective consciousness in their minds. The other group (boat) took Walt in order to keep people on the island – Michael won’t be building a raft again.
Google: B.F. Skinner’s novel “Walden Two” in which he describes a group of friends visiting a Skinner-type ‘utopian’ community. The friends react in different ways to the community’s ideology; these reactions outline the viewpoints of the two groups of Others.
Some other points which back up Andrew’s theory:
- the significance of the Dharma Initiative shark: according to Wikipedia ‘The shark has the greatest electricity sensitivity known in all animals.’
- one of the early workers on cryopreservation was Sir James Lovelock, who proposed the Gaia theory. Again, quote Wikipedia: Gaia theory is a class of scientific models of the geo-biosphere in which life as a whole fosters and maintains suitable conditions for itself by helping to create an environment on Earth suitable for its continuity. That tallies nicely with your ideas above – also as a nice ‘coincidence’ it was named Gaia theory following a suggestion by his chum William Golding, of ‘Lord of the Flies’ fame!
- I’m guessing the polar bears were brought there for monitoring i.e. to compare this artificially generated pole to their usual habitat

Hi Everyone this is Ryan Macdonald from bonnie Scotland hows everyone LOST what a tv programme best ever.
A like the theory from jonny its sounds rather good the whole heaven & Hell would be great i think. I think that everyone died on the crash and the flashbacks are them just dreaming about thier life running up to before they died but i think that would be rather stupid if that was the case but u never know. I think the directors are better than that hopefully.
Im nae bright spark but i just had a thot have not the the last episode in series 2 but i was reading ur theories and a light bulb came over ma head. So lets get down to buisness……….
My Theory is that their is two parts of the others the scientists and the jungle others and that two guys in the antarctic are part of the scientists and have been looking for the island to get the animals they captured in the antarctic eg POLAR BEARS to get back to the island and to do research on them that explains the phone call to penny to tell her that they have found the island again as i think it is joined with the ANTARCTIC thats how the POLAR BEAR was in the jungle in SERIES 1. I also think that the MONSTER is a MACHINE that the scientists built to tame the animals when they had been EXPERIMENTED on but it all went wrong as i think it was RESEARCH on animal TEMPER to see what the animals go like when whatever they gave them WHILE TESTING THEM.
WOW! This Blog kept me hooked from start to finish (and awake into the early hours). It’s great to read all of your opinions and theories, some i’m sure must be quite close to the ‘truth’(with the exception of the Giraffe theory, which is a shame) of the amazing programme that is Lost. Lets face it we’re never going to guess whats really going on but the theres no harm in trying!
In my opinion what makes the show great is all the little twists that are subtley added with no explanation, for example- the numbers on the police cars, Walt on the Milk carton, faces in the black cloud, Henry up the ladder. Bring on more of those i say! If you guys know of anymore Blog them.
Just reading ur thots sleepy head and the question u were asking was if any 1 knows anymr well i have a few so here it goes. in the orientation tape the 1 in the bunker with the scientist in it u mite of noticed he had a fake arm but wat u mite not of noticed that he only had 1 eye that was moving correct me if im wrong but what did anna lucias group find when they stumbled across that other bumker while moving thru the jungle.
Hear is another 1. Hurley got in 2 trouble at his work by his boss RANDY for eating the food and not paying for it no big deal rite
WRONG….
If u take a closer look episode 4 of series 1 locke is giving in 2 trouble for speaking on the phone by a annoying boss called RANDY so a bit weird uh
Im not sure if anyone has talked about this but i think that the "others" have a connection with the US army.
When Pickett, or whatever his name is, was saying michaels friends were "half a klick" behind them, i read that klick was military slang for km. also in "the other 48 days" ana asks goodwin were would the others get an army knife from?? Theres 2 things that could mean that the others are military. Another, although this might not have anything to do with the others because we still dont know if the others are dharma, Inman was working for the military, and we know this for sure because in the episode "what kate did" we see Inman talking to Sayid. So theres something to think about.
Cheers for the hints Brown, like the true LOST geek that I am im going to go back and see if i can spot these things for myself. I also heard a rumor that if you look closer in one of the DHARMA video’s you can see someone stood in one of the window?? Can’t find it myself. But goodluck if anyone can be bothered to try.
Cheers sleepy head. what part of the orientation tape r u on about as there is two parts to it i have seen both parts to it but as far as i can remember there is no windows but anyways i shall have a look. PS thanks for the info. cheers
Hi its Jamie and my mate Ryan u might have seen a few of his rare theorys.
But anyways we were looking at the episode where the hierogliphics are on the screen where the numbers 108 are on and we were trying to find it out on the web what they ment but no suprise we couldn’t. does any1 no? we did find 2 letters the first was c and the second was u but we noticed that the hierogliphics did change so was wondering if there is more than 1 word.
Not sure which video it’s supposed to be in, but apparently it’t there somewhere, cant find it myself. What was it that Anna Lucia found in the other Bunker? I dont think that i spotted that one? Im on the hunt for more subtle clues because im sure they’re going to be significant in the end. RyanG (UK)
Its all in Hurleys head of course.
He won the lottery by choosing a set of numbers- 4,8,15,16,23,42
His life went bad and he ended up in a mental institute with other patients including Locke, Kate, Jack etc.
He is very interested in Science fiction (hence the comic) and therefore while in the mental institute fantasises about an island with magnetic anomalies, incorporating him and the characters he has met in the mental institute into the story. The flash backs we see are the patients recollection of their experiences to Hurley.
The reason that there are so many coincidences relating to the numbers for example the flight is number 815, and 42 people survived etc, is because as Hurley is creating this world he is subconsciously drawn to using these numbers. Similarly we see those numbers on everything as Hurley just cannot get them out of his head.
Also the fact that the islanders have to type in the numbers on the computer in the bunker or the world will end, is just a reflection of Hurleys struggle with the numbers in his head. He is not sure whether he needs those numbers to survive or whether he can break free of them (with the button not being pressed).
This theory also explains why some of the characters in the flashbacks are linked to each other. i.e. desmond and jack meeting in their past. This is just because they are both in the same hospital together and Hurley is adding the characters he has met into the patients recollection of their history.
This theory also explains why things from the islanders past are manifesting themselves on the island. For example the horse from Kates past and the plane from Ekos past. This is just Hurley incorporating the patients recollections into his fantasy.
This theory also explains all the unusual or supernatural activity as it is alls Hurley overactive imagination and indulgance in his love of science fiction. The important to thing to remember is that the actual plot (whatever it is) is ultimately inconsequential as it is all in the big mans head!
Well since mr candle had only 1 movinig eye in the tape the other 1 was a glass eye when anna lucias group went into the other bunker they found a glass eye in the box along with the bible and the radio
any other questions just fire them at me ha ha only jokeing
So thats who mr candle is? Ok well… this is a little far fetched but apparently if you zoom into the picture of Walt on the Milk carton you can see Mr Candle’s face in his eye. Hmmmm what you think?
RYAN G R U JUST TAKING THE PISS COZ CLEARLY U CANNA SEE WALTS EYES ANYWAY SO EH GOOD ONE
Nah thats why i said it was far fetched, i just repeated what was on another sight, but they seem sure they can see something. But i got a feeling people may just be inventing things.
So I just started watching Lost a couple of weeks ago and Im so hooked. I watched the pilot back in 04 and thought it was going to be a survival/adventure show, not a mystery. So when the monster showed up I thought this is retarded. Why does there have to be a dinosaur on the island? Is it really that hard to write a compelling story without special fx and monsters? And I didnt watch it any more. Im actually glad that I did because I dont think I could have waited a whole week between every episode. Also Ive been living in germany for awhile and so I didnt hear about all the hype. Well they just started showing it over here and after watching episodes 2 and 3 of season one I was hooked. I bought all the episodes from itunes and watched both seasons in just a little over a weeks time. I actually started taking notes around the end of the first season (first show that every got me to do that… coincidentally, Alias was the first show to make me wish I had taken notes). So let me get to the point. I dont have a complete theory but I have made some interesting observations and a theory as to why Libby was killed. Here it goes.
First the connections between everyone before the plane crash. Bare with me; I do have a point. Well start with the obvious Desmond (David Hume) and Jack connection. Then we know that Jack is connected to Ana Lucia through Jacks Dad. Sawyer ran into the car door that Ana Lucia and Jacks dad were in outside the cocktail bar (Sawyer is of course also connected to Jack via Jacks dad… also the only three way connection). With Sawyer theres a small offshoot to Boone and Shannon; Sawyer was in the Sydney police station at the same time Boone was. Next Sawyer is connected to Kate via Kates mom. She was the waitress in the cafe when Sawyer and his friend were working out their con plan. Kate is connected to Sayid via Kates dad who was the military officer who used Sayid as a translator. Sayid is connected to Locke via Sayids girlfriend who was talking to Locke about buying a house. Locke is connected to Hurley via the box company. Hurleys accountant explains to him at one point that he owns a box company (weak I know but its still a connection; and note that the only strong connections are ones that involve fathers). And last Hurley is connected to Libby via the insane asylum. And this is why I think Libby had to be killed. She was connected to Desmond and died just before he returned on his boat. This would have completed the circle and gotten everyone asking questions (for instance, Jack and Sawyer would start to think their connection was no coincidence and others would have figured out their connections too). So I think it was no coincidence that Libby went back to the hatch for blankets at the moment she did. The island doesnt want them to know about their connections. Now I know what youre thinking, what about the others? Consider this: Claire and Eko seem to be isolated but they are connected to one another via the psychic and so I think that particular connection is important some how. And the others that have no connection are ones who didnt come to the island alone i.e. Jin and Sun, Rose and Bernard, and Walt and Mike. The only person who doesnt fit in any way, the only exception, is Charlie. Hes alone and not connected to anyone. Or did I miss it somehow? Charlie’s also the only person to be brought back to life after an incident. Maybe the others are good and somehow knew he would live.
Also theres always exchanges on the island. For instance, Boone died just as Aaron was born. Jin and Suns relationship ended just as Sayid and Shannons began. And just as Sayid and Shannons relationship ended, Jin and Suns began again. When Hurley and Libbys began Charlie and Claires was on the rocks.
And lastly, heres a question that has really bothered me. Whats up with sex on this island. At first I thought it was just unrealistic writing that nobody ever hooked up but now I think it may have some significance. Consider, do we really believe that someone like Sawyer wouldnt have been more aggressive with Kate? Especially when you think about how many times they were alone. And Charlie has never even tried to give Claire so much as a kiss. And then somehow Hurley is able to hook up with (or was just about to) someone as hot as Libby? None of it makes any sense. Ive also noticed that any women who kiss someone wind up dead very shortly after i.e. Shannon, Libby and Ana Lucia with the exception of the married couples and Kate for some reason. There is definitely something going on with the sexuality of these people and Im surprised no ones noticed this. Im not sure what to make of it all but I know it means something.
And one last thing, when the hell is Emmanuel Kant going to make his appearance?
The Real Truth.
The lost writers wrote only the first 2 seasons – maybe 3. they visit websites like these to write the rest of their seasons. you guys make it so easy. you cover every possibility. they will simply choose the best scenario and write to suite that. all they need to do is keep things consistant like the numbers. – everyone knowing everyone. – so on and you guys do the rest of the work. – they get the money for the scripts you guys are writing for them. why do you think the monster/smoke has made so little appearance- they dont know what it is yet. – you are the writers and you dont even know it. hows that theory
Gates of Heaven.
Judgement day.
The final test.
I could tell you all the plot now but that would be to easy for you all.
but here is a biggy for you lot who like answers.
Clue 1
Question – what do the symbols mean on the countdown machine.
Someone earlier found out this
CU_A_
Do you want the missing letter
CUIAL
Any ideas yet
Maybe desmonds favourite goodbye saying will give you the answer.
Clue 2
I wonder how many steps to heaven there are!!!
Such fun
I have seen the same letters corresponding to the symbols on the countdown on other sites. I never put together that it could be "see you in another life". That is a very good find if those are in fact the correct letters for the symbols.
As far as the heaven/hell/purgatory theories i dont buy that one in any shape or form.
Anyone notice that the guy that picks up Desmond on the island when he first arrives, and the military guy who drops Sayid off by the side of the road in Iraq is the same person? What’s the connection here, and why? Any ideas?
C U I A L (Brother)
your theory about there being two groups of others is wrong. before henry choked ana lucia he said:’goodwin(the spy in the tailies camp) said you could still be a good one’ meaning henry and goodwin are connected. henry is in the same group as zeek/tom and zeek/tom was talking to ethan in claire’s flashback meaning they are all interconnected
In response to Phil on July 05, 2006 at 05:58 AM about the Army knife.
My guess is that the army knife originally was Kelvin’s. Kelvin was the general or whatever in the US army that forced Sayid to question his own commander. The others most likely found Kelvins body and took what they wanted from him, just like they searched Henry Gales body to get his name and identification to use.
THANKS FOR TELLING ME THE REST OF THE SYMBOLS ON THE NUMBER BOARD I THOT THAT IT WAS CUIAL BUT I WASNT SURE.
I LIKE UR THOTS NIETZSCHE THATS PRETTY GOOD I WAS GETTING QUITE CONFUSED WITH THE CONNECTION THING BUT U DID EXPLAIN IT PRETTY GOOD (I THINK I SPELT QUITE WRONG BUT WHO CARES)
When Locke types first time the code,(Desmond pointing gun at him)he presses to buttons. Later he is the guy who is most exact about the time of giving code. I think it’s strange.
When Locke types first time the code,(Desmond pointing gun at him)he presses TWO buttons, instead of one. Later he is the guy who is most exact about the time of giving code. I think it’s strange. Sorry i have bad english!
HE TYPES THE NUMBERS IN AND THEN PRESSES EXICUTE SO WAT U ON A BOUT TWO BUTTONS
they are all chosen to be part of a massive nuclear experiment on the island that is why there is nuclear bunkers on the island
do you think the others have control over the smokey beast and the polar bears?
when do you think the bunkers were put on the island and what do you think the reasons are?
just thought do you think there could be a massive war in last series and who do you think would win also how many others do you think there are?
I have read this blog and I think people in here have guite interesting theorys and WOW how wild imagination!
I think however that Lost is far more realistic serie. I think (and hope) that Lost "could" be based on real events, that it`s a story about real people, their "survival stories" in the real life across the world and on the island which is a secret "test" island of the American government and military. Remember there are more survivors than just the persons who are starring in Lost!
But the story is of course part fictional..I think it`s full of symbols, contrast and what ifs. Could it be true that we have unused resources within us? We could! Can we measure those? Maybe!
All together Lost is my addiction now and I`m so curious to see season 3! I just believe that the story is more made for "ordinary" than fanatic sience fiction people. Hello, it has to be interesting (and fashionable) to many kinds of people who are watching it!!!
I really hope the story ending has SURVIVORS, if not….blaa blaa blaa etc.
Any comments?
Your theory sounds okay except if they wanted to create a community for the future of the human, why equip them with weapons…

lost in finland i think alot of whatyou are saying is true but it can’t be that realistic if there is black smoke floating about and polar bears on an island can it?
sz for it saying i am writing early in the morning but i am from the uk
This show is turning into a Davinci Code by the power of 10, and like the Davinci Code, you can read too much into things, I believe the writing staff and creators have placed clues in the show, and this year through the internet and we are piecing things together bit by bit but I dont think well ever get a step ahead of the writers and if we did, would we know?
All your theories are fantastic. Its helping me understand the show a whole lot more.
I love the Giraffe theory, if any of the writing staff from the show have read that; they should get the CGI guys to mock one up, just for the enjoyment it will give the fan base here and mess with the minds of the fans that havent read this massive collection of blogs / theories.
Keep up the theorising folks, well crack it together or go completely mad and miss the final season due to extreme mental illness.
4 8 15 16 23 42
Im not great at maths but I think the only prime number in the list is 23. Not even 108 is a prime number, though I could be wrong.
This probably means nothing but its another aspect of the numbers to look at.
Electromagnetic anomalies can be found in some parts of the world and using the idea on the TV show is a great idea.
While sailing up the east coast of Australia in the year 1770, James Cock came upon just such an Island. Its still known as Magnetic Island today.
The name of the island came about because of the apparent "magnetic" effect it had on the ship’s compass as it passed the island.
People have since explored the island with magnets to verify the field that Cook experienced, but none have been discovered.
Magnetic Island is off the coat of north Queensland, north of the tropic of Capricorn. Im sure there are other land masses in history like Magnetic Island.
Ive read lots of great theories about Lost here, yet has any one made an attempt to place the Lost Island in a geographical area?
Im working on the principals that the shows writers have one foot in our reality and I hope they continue to keep the overall story arc grounded by real science; this makes the whole thing more believable and hopefully more understandable.
With this in mind, do you want to find out where this island may be in the real world? OK yeah I know; there is no lost island, but hay lets go look for the dam place anyway&..
Firstly we need the flight plan for flight 815 SYD to LAX. We are told that the plane was 6 hours into the flight when it lost its radio. It turned around in bad weather to land at Fiji but ended up 1000 miles of course.
Due to the untimely death of the captain / pilot at the hands of some black smoke monster dinosaur thing! this all we know.
Ive never flown this rout my self but we can assume that the rout is north by north east and that they crossed the International Date Line before disaster hit.
Did the plane make it across the Equator? Though the plane was effectively in the middle of the South Pacific when it crashed inexplicably onto the Island of no hope, its likely we can rule out some areas.
I dont think they are south of the tropic of Capricorn. I also dont think the island of the dammed is to far north of the Equator.
Making a measurement on a flat map using an Equatorial scale From Suva the main Island in the Fijian group of Islands to the Equator line is roughly 2500 miles. I think!
We can also use geothermal science to help us; Sayid believes that the power supply to the Swan Station 3 (Hatch) is through the use of geothermal energy.
One way of finding geothermal hot spots in the Earth is to measure variations in gravity and magnetic fields!
Some of the hottest geothermal areas are found in the south Pacific. Along the so called ring of fire. Which is bounded by Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, the Aleutian Island and North, Central, and South America.
So Im as lost as Charlie,
My best guess as to the fictional whereabouts of the Island that time forgot is at a latitude of 12:17:17S by Long: 176:41:42E.
Or maybe Hurleys numbers form the latitude and longitude of a hidden place.
4: 8: 15: by 16: 23: 42: Its yet another take on the numbers and significance they play. Could they also be a map reference?
Didnt the guy who give Hurley the numbers believe they are coordinates from world war two or something?
fantastic theorys guys
and i think i can slove a small problem if no one above has mentioned it
i was wonder why the number and the button should be pussed every 108 mins
i kinda get where they got the 108 from
add up all the numbers and u get 108 simple!
4 + 8 + 15 + 16 + 23 + 42 = 108
but hang on does that mean if they type any other number it would give them that much time untill the next entry
???????????
Ive posted an image of a huge map of lots of different aspects of lost, if you havent see it, its on the homepage of this site or you can go directly to the post here http://www.lostreview.com/2006/7/huge-map-lost-island.cfm .
Thanks for your comments Jeff!
Well, maybe the black smoke and the polar bears are due to the islands magnetism somehow. If they have been testing the island and learned to benefit from it for decades…..?? They are maybe using the magnetism (and the generator)for their mind games. I really don`t think that real polar bears could survive in there AND we haven`t seen the bears since when?? Maybe because they shut down the magnetic generator means that mind games are over AND the rest of the world can now "see" the island.
????????
On the subject of the hieroglyphs….
I don’t know where anyone is getting this CUIAL stuff from…. i know nothing about hieroglyphics, but i looked aroung on the internet for ways of translating the symbols that appear in lost. There seem to be two ways of translating hieroglyphs: phonetically- where each symbol translates to a sound-, and ‘conceptually’ (my inappropriate word)- where each symbol translates to an idea, concrete or abstract. Only the conceptual translation is really worthwhile, as phonetics are too ambiguous, and as far as i remember, it was something along the lnes of ‘all will die’. I actually found a site with the exact same symbols in an old textbook, and they translated it as something along the lines of all will die or similar. Inevitably i can’t find the site anymore though.
I am inclined to thing that the heiroglyphs are a red herring though, as they are too obviously signposted as a ‘clue’.
The purgatory theory is the only one that you can’t logically refute, but for this reason it would be a big cop out if that was the explanation.
r.e. the button pushing. The point of the button is obviously something to do with the person(s) pushing it. As somewone pointed out, why not just have a computer (with failsafes) automatically performing the number entry, unless it was serving the purpose of a dead-man’s swith/focus for the copmmunity/test of faith, etc
Wikipedia : 108, in Homer’s Odyssey, the number of suitors coveting Penelope, wife of Odysseus. BTW – oersted satelite orbital period is about 99-100 minutes (http://www.control.auc.dk/projects/satellites/orsted.html) – sorry
My dead and alive theory.
The Government finds an island with electromagnetic anomalies. They send scientists there to conduct a series of secret experiments. They build a network of bunkers, harness the magnetic field, and begin their experiments. They code- name the experiment after the islands coordinates.(hence why the numbers are on everything)
After a few years of experimentation, some of the scientists rebel. They are interested in the effects of electromagnetism on humans and so decide to bring down a random plane by intentionally failing to push the button in the Swan Complex Bunker. (This rebel group are The Others.)
So the incident takes place and the nearest plane is sucked towards the island and is ripped in two. As you would expect all the passengers die.
A selection of the bodies are taken to a lab by the others and exposed to controlled electromagnetic treatment (of some kind) that stimulate their brains and bodies and bring them back to life. The others believe that they have invented immortality!
The passengers are placed at the site of their crash to wake up so that they can continue to be monitored.
When the passengers awake, although they have all been cured of their physical ailments (inability to walk, infertility, and illnesses), their brains are not functioning properly. Their short-term & long-term memories are mixed up, with details confused as the survivors incorporate one another into their own personal memories. (The flash-backs). They also seem to have hallucinations.
Oh and Jacks dad (who was in a coffin on the plane)&he was also brought back to life. (Hence why his coffin is found empty). As the others need his medical expertise he is persuaded to join them. He now wears a fake beard so as not to be recognised!
Any1 remember what happens to charlie after Desmond used the keys? His like having an amnesia!? When they ask him wheres lock & ecko, his like "they haven come back?". & his got this weird expression when claire ask him bout the bright lights in the sky.
charlie couldnt of forgot about the incident wen the hatch blew up cos he sed to claire”you want me to tell you about the flyin forks or the killer washingmachines…”
by the way…….jimmy mic…..your theory is the best ive come across so far mate! everything fits…..well in
People please dont break your head to much into this.
This is just a new formula for a show that they can milk money from.
But to not further spoil your theory’s here are a few of mine what the secret is.
The easy one to end this serie is:
They found out that they all died in the plane crash. And that this island is some sort of test or aera where they have to make the right dicessions before they move on to the next world or something.
This is allso a theory that would be much easyer to understand for the big audiance than the one discribed on top of this topic.
How ever since this allready has been used in other movie’s / series. I hope this wont be it.
My other theory ( witch isnt compleet )
Locke can walk becuase of the magnetic field yes this has been sayed allready but not why & how this can.
Our nerf system use the same magnetic force as the earth has as magnetic field. With out that magnetic field we cant live. So we probaly wouldnt reach mars alive. But i dont know how far this field reach and if the magnetic field of mars gives us the same energie.
To go back on the subject. The island is a powerfull magnetic place. Witch the Dharma initiatief has build his stations to study & probaly tried to control it. This field allso protects this island as a form of a barriër that doesnt alow you to go out or go in easly. The Dharmy intiatief and their experiments made this barriër unstable in some how that it keeps building up energie that will atract metal objects. And every 108 minuts there has been build up to much energie that has to be released. So the Dharma intiatief probaly made the hatch as a fail save for when would happen what ever did happen. The so called Others are the scientist that were left behind when everything went wrong to keep things running. And the food that dropped from the sky whas probaly for them. These scientist dont care any more about all of this. Since they have been so long stuck on that place. And hope this island pulls something interesting to it where they can play with.
To go back on the other weird stuff that happend on the island. the black smoke monster, The weird voices in the wind, and other stuff.
Well this magnetic force that is used by our nerf system. Can be used if you know how or have a strong feeling in it (people believe this in real live aswell i dont denie its true or not) You can use it to heal people, Teleknishe, hypnotish, all that sort of stuff. And since that island has a strong magnetic field. Every one is affraid of something, and since 40 people all have there own personal fear they project that in one big monster in the form of their personaly fear, witch is for the viewer (us) black smoke. And it only kills you if you fear it at the moment its infront of you. If you dont fear it. As what Mr.Eko did it cannot hurt you. Just as real live fear cant hurt you if your not affriad of it anymore.
Allso chirldren are probaly more open for these things thats why Walt seems to use this with out knowing.
And the others (the sientist) know some tricks with it.
The rest how they all have connections with each other. Before the plain crash. Is just what writers do to make it more mysterious allso the numbers thing etc. They used this to fool the you guys that see plots in every thing
Thing is this is just a new milking cow formula to keep every one watching. and it will never end until viewers lose interested and than they make 1 more last exiting sesion to end it.
But i m allso a fan of this serie

And there are only a few things that anoy me.
1: The commercials
2: I dont like that they changed a few characters: for example Jack. Whas first a inteligient man. that had his emotions under control. And had a roll as leader. Now he believes everything what people tell him. And when something happend that made him angry he goes totaly in rage, takes a pistol to go hunt some "others" .
Any way i wrote down way to much so il end it here.
(btw i m not dutch not english so my spelling will probaly be pretty sloppy)
i wish i had more time to read all your theory but i gotta get back to work, so maybe you explain this later on, but i got all the way to the part where you said there are two scientist groups, one that steals babies and one that took walt, well in the show it shows that they are one in the same. ethan was working with the guy that wore the fake beard which also worked with the people that took walt. but othere than that, i think all the way up to that sounds really good
im not sure if its true but in the episode where the black smoke comes right up to Jack’s face i think, you can see people flashbacks in the smoke like images of memories and shit?
is this true or not?
wat series r u watching coz if i remember correctly the smoke goes up 2 ekos face not jacks which was in series 2 episode 10 not in less u have seen up 2 the end of series 2 but i live in the uk so i havent seen it yet
How about the DHARMA Initiative logo itself!? This is probably the biggest clue in the whole series!
Look closely at the DHARMA Initiative symbol, and compare it to the Korean flag http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Image:Dharma_vs_Korea.jpg
It signifies the relationship between ‘positive’ and ‘negative’ and the different parts represent earth, heaven, fire, water, wind, mountain, lake, thunder.
I think this is a brilliant blog and all your theories hold a certain amount of weight, but welcome to the truth about lost:
Let’s start with the four toed statue, it’s obvious the statue was of Homer Simpson. In the episode of the simpsons where Homer is sucked through the black hole he was sucked through the dimensional barrier and ended up on you guessed it the island. As the first person to inhabit the island Homer declared himself king and with all his ‘knowledge’ gained from working at the nuclear power plant he built the dharma initative single handly. The electromagnetic core was built by Homer as a way of reopening the black hole to return to Springfield, however in early testing stages the electromagnetic force was too strong, hence the introduction of having to release the energy every 108 minutes. Whilst initially working on the electromagnets Homer was unaware that the black hole was actually opening at other points around the island and not at the core centre as he had suspected it would therefore pulling other people through the dimensional port hole.
Once Homer had discovered that the key to keeping this hole closed was the sequence of numbers to be entered every 108 minutes he used people who had been sucked through to create the Dharma Initiative and the training videos etc. A band of people who we know as the ‘Others’ decided not to return through the black hole when Homer and everyone left but also decided to keep the black hole open in case one day they decided they wanted to return to their own dimension, they built a statue of Homer and worshipped him as some kind of God.
Then the first time they made a mistake and let the numbers go down to zero they sucked through a covert team from the US military who declared war (hence the statue is only left with one foot), through the war the military got control of the main hatch which is where the electromagnetic core is and left two people there to keep it in working order (not realising it was all a ploy developed by Homer Simpson and thinking it would equal the end of the world) now many years later and legends have gone on between the people who have been in the hatch they believe they are saving the world.
Now that Desmond has initiated the fail safe this has sent out a massive elctromagnetic pulse throughout the universe which NASA from our world have picked up on, Penelope has people working on the inside of NASA on the search for Desmond and they now know where the black hole was and will be attempting to reopen it.
In the meantime the survivors of the crash who were sucked through the black hole the first time Desmond didn’t initiate the sequence of numbers in time will have to survive in harmony with the natives ‘the others’ till the hole can be reopened.
As for how all the survivors seem to have crossed paths previous to being on the plane I believe is somewhat coincidence driven, but you also have to remember that a lot of the time you see them cross paths in their flashbacks is at the airport, this is not that difficult to believe (as they were all on the same plane).
And the simple reason behind why Hurley has an earlier affiliation with the numbers is because he because the guy in the mental hospital was so obsessed with the simpsons it drove him insane and the numbers were subliminaly instilled into his brain after Homers return to Springfield.
Now I don’t know about anyone else but I think this theory is absolutely air tight and I have to support killer giraffe’s as well I believe these were a side effect of one of Homers eccentric experiments.
nice theory, but..why those cientifics appears on the last episode of the 2nd season calling to desmond ex girlfriend telling her "i think we found him"… if anyone can answerme ill be very happy
Frist Off amazing theries…dude are you jew?
Why did Locke trust Desmond after locke try to convice him that is just a circle of people watching THEM?
I think that it had something to do with the philadelhia experiment and how it made that ship inivisible or teleport to a different dimension or galaxy/planet. Maybe thats what caused the bermuda triangle in the first place. The islanf is actually invisable and they have to keep it inivisble by pushing the button? Would make sense with the four toed statue. A different planet that it has opened a get to.the philidelphia experiment was real was the truth was never uncovered, google it. Plus the area of the philadelhia experiment was close to were the Bermuda Triangle is meant to be?? Still doesn’t explain jack sh!t but could be a start???
hello, I noticed that the summ of the number they should write is equal to 108 !!!!
4+8+15+16+23+42=108
Great blog, excellent theories and great people.
I was just thinking of something since I saw the last episode of season 2 last night…
Couldn’t this just be something like The Truman Show ?
If we consider what we see in the video of the Dharma thing… we see domes… The bunkers sure look like domes from the inside, but isn’t the island just a huge dome where scientists study these people’s ability to survive, etc… The dome being made by an electromagnetic field…
Sorry for my English, but I’m French, so I’m having a hard time to find my words.
What do you huys think ?
Sorry if this has been posted before but i think this is why they chose these numbers:
Try this:
OPEN WORDPAD(or NOTEPAD), HOLD DOWN ALT and type in on your NUMPAD the numbers 4815162342 nad then let go of the ALT key! … and you will end up with µ
µ means MU
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mu_%28lost_continent%29 MU (Lost continent) wich relates to Atlantis and Lemuria
ALSO
"Mu-metal is a nickel-iron alloy (77% nickel, 15% iron, plus copper and molybdenum) that has a very high magnetic permeability. Permeability is represented by ?, the Greek letter mu.
The high permeability makes mu-metal very effective at screening static or low-frequency magnetic fields, which cannot be attenuated by other methods.[1]
Mu metal requires special heat treatment annealing in hydrogen atmosphere, which reportedly increases the magnetic permeability about 40 times. The annealing alters the material’s crystal structure, aligning the grains and removing some impurities, especially carbon. Mechanical treatment may disrupt the material’s grain alignment, leading to drop of permeability in the affected areas, which can be restored by repeating of the hydrogen annealing step."
How the hell did you figure that out
Pretty much common sense. Get with the program Scoogles.
what if those two people who are apparently in the ‘south pole’ monitoring electro magnetism aren’t actually there cos instead of the world overheating the opposite happened and now evry1 outside the "bubble" (the island) is in an ice age. this includes penelope. its probably wrong but any thoughts??
There’s no way ice age has something to do with all this. It just wouldn’t make any sense to freeze people just to send them on an island to make the repopulate the earth from that island.
Besides, when Des or Michael tried to leave the island they just got back to it.
I don’t get the purpose of freezing people, even though it’s an excellent theory
4 the year maby?
8
15 flight 815
16 not sure anyone got any any ideas
23 gate 23
42 42 people survived
4 the year maby?-2004
8
15 flight 815
16 not sure anyone got any any ideas
23 gate 23
42 42 people survived
i was just thinking 4,8,12,15,16,23,42, can’t be related in any way to flight 815 and the people in the plain. cause how long the hatch has been there and when it was built there is a huge time difference so it cant be related. or is it fate that brought them to the island
why would the numbers have anything to do with the plain or the people on it when that guy forgot to press the button and the magnet shit happened and brought it down.
I thought of something thsi WE while watching II-1 and 2 again.
First of all, the numbers….
4+8+15+16+23+42
42 people who survived the crash on the head of the plane.
23 people who were supposed to have survived from the tale of the plane, but when Michael, Sawyer and Yin ask, they’re not 23 anymore but 8
As for the other numbers, 4-15-16, I wonder if they wouldn’t concern other survivors, or the number of those killed by the others…
23-8 survivors = 15 killed.
Now, as for number 4 and 16… I have a hard time figuring it out.
One thing’s for sure though, everything is interconnected. The numbers and the people deal with one another.
Now, as for Desmond / Libby / Hurley.
There’s a problem here because when Des runs away from the hatch, in II-2, he leaves the photo of him with Libby taken when he was on that boat of his. How come noone ever saw that photo when they were in the hatch.
Libby and Hurley went there together to have the clothes washed. How come she never saw that photo of Desmond ?
What about Jack, Locke, Sayid, Late, and all those who go to the hatch ?
There’s a part of the puzzle missing here.
What do you guys think about it ?
Hi Bob
That’s an excellent question.
But if we suppose that the whole thing is an experience made by scientists, it seems to make sense.
How come that plane crashed, with those numbers, and why at that time. It sure makes a lot of coincidences, but maybe they were meant to crash. maybe all those people were put in that plane on the sole purpose to crash on that island in order to work on them and see how they would react in those moments, with all the stress, in an inhospitable island, psychologically, physically, and with all the human capacities the dharma society is working on.
I’m sure those people were chosen for one purpose. Moreover, they all met at one time and another. They are all interconnected.
I’m not sure I’m saying anything helpful here, but I’m trying to find out …
I am facinated by all of these theories and I scanned over a lot of them however I have a simple question……Does anyone else find it odd that on numerous occations Danielle has mentioned the Radio Tower and how she changed the transmision from the numbers to the warning, and noone else including Sayid ( a communications expert) has not gone to find the Tower and change the message to say, Oh, I don’t know…..HELP US!!!!! (Whether it would pass the invisible magnetic barrier or not) Like Hurley says, " And the fact that noone is even looking for it, yeah thats odd!!!!"
I enjoyed the refereces to Good and Evil with the Black and White in the first episodes..Badgammon, Lockes eyes in Claire’s dream, as well as the references verbally, but that never lead enyplace, or did it? anyone else wonder what was the significance of the black and white stones that Jack found in a bag in the caves along with the dead bodies, never heard anything else about those either.
Anyone else believe that Claire is gong to end up being Jack’s Sister. I may have listened wrong but I am sure that I heard Jack’s father, when he went to Sydney with Anna lucia, go to the front door of the womans house and ask to see his daughter, mmmmm any other main characters female from Australia that could fit the bill.
Sorry Ryan McDoe but the word ARCTIC means "Bear" and there are polar bears in the Arctic ( North Pole ) but ANTARCTIC or Anti- Bear as in "No Bears" is the South Pole and they only have penguins and I don’t remember seeing any killer penguins on the island…at least not yet, who knows. However, since the island is in the southern hemesphere closer to Antarctica the polar bear research theory doesn’t fly…Sorry.
Here is a little tid bit, In the episode where Kate and her childhood sweetheart dig up the time capsule they buried, they listen to a tape and they mention the date as August 15, 1989 MMMmmmm…….. 8/15 coincidence????? And the Marshal taking Kate on the plane has how many guns in his case "5". You can go crazy finding links to these numbers but it is fun. By the way where is the Milk carton with Walts photo, missed that one!!!!
Me again, outside of Locke and Rose having miraculous recooperations of their cancer and paralasis, does anyone else notice just how fast everyones cuts, bruises and shots heal so fast on the island, come on it has only been a couple of months. Some of these stitches healed in an episode.
Also, outside of Ethans facination to playing Hangman, Noone has died in the hands of the OTHERS, everyone that has died has been from a survivor killing them. Now I know what your thinking what about all the abductions, just that abductions, they may still be alive in cage being observed under a microscope for all we know. So are the Others really dangerous or shall we say murderers, no I think they are just Scientist not killers.
Scott, Kudos on the Map dude, now my questions is did you do this because I would really like to know how you got the info on all the names of the Bunkers and second, what dimension do you live in in order to find time to do it because in the world I live in I bearly have time to work, eat and spend an hour or two with my son, GIVE ME THE SECRET MAN!!!!
Yes I know "5" guns, what does that have to do with the price of eggs in China…. I had a point but I thought I had mentioned it earlier but it was a conversation with my brotherin law. Is their a reglious or scientific meaning behind the number 5. I knowit is not in " the numbers" however 5 guns, Jack has a tatoo with the number 5 on it, they have had 5 children on the island ( Walt, Aaron, the two childeren from the back segment and Alex Roussoux’s baby ) and 5 wrecks on the island, Flight 815, Rousseoux boat, Henry’s Balloon, the Black Rock and the nigerian Plane. Coinsidence????? Any feed back on this one???????
If the theory is true, then probably at the series finale (Season 4 or 5), the world will probably have something happen like in the "Day After Tomorrow". The Surviors may get off the island, but some of the characters will probably die in the iccident!
Small note of the day:::
Jack seat number 23B
Ana Lucias 42F
Things that make you go MMMmmmmmm!!!!!!
Every thing in the pantry of the Bunker was name brand Dharma….except the "Apollo" candy bars….The Greek god Apollo gave us the sayings "Know thyself" and the call to moderation in all things, the Golden Mean, that reminds us to do "nothing in excess".
Nothing in excess on the island?????? NNnaaaaa!!!!
Has anyone noticed that in II-4,( when Shanon goes to the hospital with her step-mother after someone called her at work because her father had had an accident), Jack just passed behind them ?
Funny coincidence….
It’s really strange how all the people on the island have at one moment or another come accross each other…
This sure is a strange scientific experience. It really looks like this show is a parallel with The Truman Show. There are too many similarities for it being something else…
does any one know what jacks tat means
How come Charlie acts as if noting has happened after the explosion when he talks to clare
COINCIDENTAL MEETINGS BEFORE THE ISLAND: The ultimate lost theory suggests that the surviers may have been genetically engineered.
Maybe they were ‘grown’ by whoever is behind the island. They could have had memories implanted in their brains, which would explain why characters ‘remember’ their paths crossing at various times before they cam to the island.
THE OTHERS: If Lost is actually happening in the future, maybe the Others are are the children (or even grand-children) of a previous experiment>
POLAR BEARS: Maybe these are part of an earlier experiment to see if animals can be genetically modified to survive outside of their normal environment.
Well some interesting facts and theories there all you have but what about Russo (French chick) what has she to do with it. Also why every 108 minutes does the button need to be pressed (to let out energy) yeah right on final episode it was released by Desmond so what happened to him too, explain the show and not some silly theory that goes no where. Also have you forgotten about the (so called monster of the island) the black mist that shows up every now and then, where does that tie into your theory? The statue maybe the Poseidon or Zeus or maybe there on the lost island of Atlantis, come on people, collective consciousness
hahahaha!. Be real, next you’ll be trying to tie in some matrix type plot. To spoil your plot over Loch’s walking is simple magnetics get used in band-aids, walking frames and even to reduce pain, maybe theres that much magnetism around that he can move freely or the fact that he was told in season one that his injury would heal in time but only when he’s ready for it. The others needed Michaels son so why did they let him go in the end of season 2, (Michael should have been killed for his betrayal) oh and the look jack gave Kate was like he knew that they would be ok and to do what the others said (much like most government workers are told if caught in a hostage situation). Polar shift theory is pretty cool, but I’d be more to say that magnetic waves control the pull rotation and direction of this earth and saves us from radio-active flares from the sun, now because the ozone depletes the magnetism in some pockets solar flares can get thru, well if we lost it completely we couldn’t be protected by these waves, so the Dharma Corp discovered this and made steps to ensure that the next global shift could be controlled by these bunkers that hold this energy letting it release every 108 mins. So that mankind wouldn’t be wiped out at even just a 2% shift of the earth, its all really what we want to see the show for ourselves make up your own minds and theories, its just great TV viewing with a plot/story line so original that (tho allot of ties from previous books and that) it leaves you all guessing whats going to happen next. Plus Sawyer is far more intelligent then anyone on the island but acts really stupid, next you’ll be saying he’s one of the scientist, the head honcho, lol. You all should just sit back and enjoy the show!
russo is part of dharma.why?because in one of the episodes at the beginning of season 2 one of the boxes has written on it "legumes" which means "vegetables" in english.trust me i’m french.check it iut for yourself.there is something french about lost.
Wow! I can’t believe I made it through this BLOG! Very interesting stuff. There are NO coincidences. Yes, Jack and Claire are definately brother and sister. I think Jack’s Dad has a drinking problem because he has a hard time living with the "job" that the Foundation has him involved in. There is some type of lineage connection. Has anyone been to the Hanso site and looked at their job postings????? The Foundation is definately not for the weak at heart! No cry babies or tree huggers there! They look for people who have no problem with mind control, cruelty to animals, and vanguard science. They hire Mercs, which could explain the "military" connections, i.e. the knife. they look for people with diverse ethnic backgrounds, languages, capabilities and ask certain individuals to sign a lifetime non-disclosure…Libby???, Jack’s Dad???
I think that there could have been a split amongst the scientific researchers as certain individuals began to question the ethical/moral complications of the experiment, i.e. Henry Gale and the others. They consider themselves the "rebels" What does Desmond call these people??? The "Hostiles"?
It is interesting to me that no one has paid much attention to Jin and Sun…
One of the job postings is for an Anger Management Director in Seoul Korea. They must speak fluent Korean and all dialects and have a working knowledge of human rights and enviromental litigation. Wasn’t the gentleman who taught Sun the English language, a lawyer??? Sun’s father is affluent and rich, just as Penelope’s father. Sun is argueably the most CALM person on the island and takes on the role well. In addition, she cares about the enviroment around them. She seems to know that they are there for the long haul…she is the only one who plants food instead of it waiting to fall from the sky…
Her prize for her efforts are that she is no able to become pregnant. Remember the doctor who told her that she could not??? He worked for her father.
About the smoke…maybe it is not smoke, but a gas! Some type of anesthetic that is released when things go awry so that the Foundation can run damamge control and put everything back the way it was. The vaccines are owned by the Others and were developed so that they are not controlled by the conscious collective.
The flash backs, and theories of atonement, religion and personal struggles are all the things that the guinea pigs (Jack, Locke, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley etc.) bring with them to the island and these latent memories are difficult for the collective to control because they are so deeply buried. That is why the Foundation wants to develope the new race…the babies…so they can control them from birth. the Hostiles/Others are trying to protect them with the vaccines…
Just another theory…
I LOVE the scientific and real world connections! Fabulous Show, a little slow at times but still GREAT! If the writers are looking at these sites for ideas, instead of doing their jobs then I want to paid for a job like that! As far as I know, only the Actors do not get the scripts in advance…
Keep the theories coming…
season 2 episode 9:when kate and sawyer look at the black horse, on the right side you see a hand with a black glove telling the horse to stay still.filming error or a are there invisible scientists on the island…check it out
i know it might sound far away but coming back to the very first episode of lost, why was jack in the jungle when he woke up and the others on the beach????that’s my main question about this show.anyway this show is driving me nuts.it’s very clever
i found the answers to all our questions after a long search i found someone who is talking a bit of sense. this website has truly answered all the weird stuff about the eiland. surely i didn’t beleive it in the beginning but i read part 2 of the page and it started to make sense. i was actually lookin for alvar hanso. i googled it and it lend me to this fantastic website. it even tells you about adam and eve check it out

i’m back again it seems that the link i pasted was the google version. this is the original
http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=35539
also why do heaps of characters trip while they are running or being purchased?…weird.i want answers.does anyone still come on this blog,i have a lot of questions.
Chris, lots of people are still coming to this blog. There are tons of other posts though so be sure to check those also and discuss the issues within each post as well as this one.
Considering the ratio of survivors to dead passangers on Flight 815, any wonder….
????WHY DID NOT ONE CREW MEMBER SURVIVE THIS CRASH?????
Outside of the pilot who was casted as "Mosters Breakfast" in the first episode.
Good observation about the plane crew members, I havent even thought of that one.
oh come on now. its only a tv show.
but ill play along anyway just for fun
they all got killds in te plain crash. and they are in whats calld.. a waiting area..
till the end of time.. and judgment day..
or…the pilot sead they got off corse by 1000
miles in minuts. so they get caut in a time warp… explaining that dinosaour on the island.. or.. a world wide nuke war broke out and crashed the plaine.. and they are all thats left.. or..maybe im watching the show to much and should take up chating on yahoo..
whatever.. its only a dumb tv show
one more thing i forgot to post in my last post
the dharma thing.. you know what that is..
i do.. its a religion.. just type..dharma
in your browsers address box or google it..
youll find it..
for those who have a lot of questions about lost should read this theory by alan smith it will explain alot to you
